Story
Animal Profile: Kimber is a beautiful 3-year-old, 54 lb female German Shepherd who was found wandering as a stray and taken to Everett Animal Shelter. When the shelter environment was too stressful for her, we gave her a "jail break" and she's now in our foster care. Foster Update: Kimber is affectionate and bonds quickly with her person. She is looking for an adopter who is experienced with high-energy dogs and is willing to continue working with her. She loves lounging in the house watching out the windows. Her ideal home environment would be an adult only household with working breed experience and a securely fenced yard. Shes completed a 4 week board and train program with Lugaru K9 Training to address leash reactivity. Kimber can now walk nicely on leash, and knows the following commands: sit, down, place, heel and leave it. She's not a candidate for dog parks as she easily gets over aroused and needs slow intros to other dogs.  Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550 which includes spay/neuter, all core vaccinations, microchip, heartworm test and health certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as Dog Gone Seattle is a federal 501c3 organization.  Apply online: www.doggoneseattle.org/adoption-applicationMay 29, 2023, 4:05 am

Story
Animal Profile: Have you ever wanted a grumpy old man dog who's not really an old man? Achilles might be the one for you! If he had a voice, you can bet you'd hear him yelling "Get off my lawn!" from the front porch. His adorable face is your Achilles heel (get it?!), but he won't just roll over for anyone. Achilles needs a confident person that is comfortable telling him to cut the crap. He is thriving in a home with balanced training, and can be quite snuggly and affectionate once you've earned his respect.  Achilles is a 3-year-old, 18 lb male Schnauzer. He was surrendered to one of our rescue partners in California when they were moving and could not bring take him with them. Foster Update: Training is going well since Achilles is very food motivated. He is potty trained, crate trained, and knows basic commands. He’s currently in a home that has training experience, and he's working on commands like ‘place’, threshold manners, and loose leash walking. Achilles needs slow introductions to other dogs -- he is not a dog that will do well in dog parks. Achilles would do best with a balanced female companion or as an only dog. His ideal home will have dog experience, a securely fenced yard, and no cats or children. Achilles has a tendency to be vocal, and needs an owner that will provide him with good boundaries. He would not do well in an apartment setting. He needs slow introductions to new people and a confident handler to provide him with consistency in boundaries and acceptable behavior.    Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550, which includes spay/neuter, current rabies/DAPPV/bordetella vaccinations, microchip, health certificate, and heartworm test. All adoption fees are donations to a Washington non-profit corporation and all donations go to benefit the animals in our rescue.  Apply online at www.DogGoneSeattle.org Animal History: This dog was rescued from euthanasia at a high-kill shelter in California and will be available for adoption in Seattle, once evaluated in a loving foster home in the greater Seattle area. May 29, 2023, 4:05 am

Story
Animal Profile: Verina is a 4-year-old, 70 lb female German Shepherd who was transferred to our rescue from Whatcom Humane Society. She lost her previous home when her family had to move due to a military assignment and they were unable to bring her along. Foster Updates: Verina, or Vi for short, is an active girl who loves to play. The bigger the stick, the better, in her opinion! When she first arrived in foster care we noticed a few things that made us think she might be deaf. A vet visit confirmed our suspicions, but you wouldn't know that when you first meet her. Verina is very interested in engaging with her people, and loves going for long walks on the property and playing fetch. She could entertain herself for hours outside, and would love to live somewhere she could enjoy her own yard. She is working on her leash manners, and has come a long way with a training collar. She has a good heel position and she makes lots of eye contact with her handler -- whoever is holding the leash -- for guidance in new situations. Vi knows the "place" and "crate" command as well as "sit" and "down". She can be tentative when first meeting new people, but once she opens up you can see her spirit shine. Verina currently lives with another female dog, but is not interested in interaction as she is very people focused. She is working on learning sign language for her commands, and catches on very quickly. Verina will make a loving and loyal companion in her forever home! Adopter Profile: Verina is looking for a family with German Shepherd or working dog experience. She needs to live in a single dog, adult only household with a securely fenced yard. She would love to live with someone that worked from home. Deaf dog experience a plus! Adoption Info:  Adoption fee is $400 which includes spay/neuter, all core vaccinations, microchip, heartworm test. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as Dog Gone Seattle is a federal 501c3 organization.  Apply online: www.doggoneseattle.org/adoption-application Major was a transfer from Everett Animal Shelter. Story
Animal Profile: Freya is an estimated 3-year-old, 60 lb female German Shepherd who has a lot of love to give. She is smart and loves to work for you. She will thrive with a strong leader --  otherwise she is prone to anxiety. She is house-trained, crate-trained, fully obedience trained and will do best with a shepherd savvy owner capable of providing her with guidance as well as physical and mental stimulation. Freya LOVES to fetch and BALL IS LIFE. She walks well on a leash with a training collar. This loyal and affectionate girl is slow to warm up to new people and will need an owner who is comfortable managing her safe introductions to strangers, but once you earn her trust, she's very eager to please.  Freya has lived with other dogs and loves to play with them; she's good with dogs big and small, male and female. At this time we are prioritizing a home for Freya with a resident dog(s) as we think she would do best in a pack. She's also been tested with cats and exhibits no prey drive, and is amusingly scared of chickens. She is currently living in a home with small children and has done well with them, but we would prefer to place her in an adult only home.  Adopter Profile:  Large dog experience required Shepherd experience preferred Single family residence required (no apartments) Secure fenced yard required Other balanced dog(s) preferred Cats OK No kids preferred Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $400 which includes spay/neuter, all core vaccinations, microchip, heartworm test and health certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as Dog Gone Seattle is a federal 501c3 organization.  TAKE HOME TRAINING SESSION INCLUDED WITH ADOPTION Apply online: www.doggoneseattle.org/adoption-application Animal History: Freya was found as a stray in Dec 2020 in Tacoma extremely underweight (40 lbs) and very scared. She was taken into Tacoma Humane Society and transferred to Dog Gone Seattle. She was fostered with DGS for several months while she learned basic manners and gained 15 lbs. She was adopted in March 2021 and lived with a caring family. Unfortunately they lived in a condo with no secure yard in a busy urban environment, which proved too challenging for Freya with those particular owners. She was returned to DGS in April 2022 and received a professional board and train with our training partner Seattle K9 Command. She is now being fostered in Bothell and available for adoption in the greater Seattle area.  May 29, 2023, 4:05 am

Bruno was saved from euthanasia at the last minute. He had been picked up as a stray, but even though his owner knew he was at the city shelter, didn't come pick him up. He is a sweetheart. With a little training, he will be a very good boy. He is Shepherd mix and they are very loyal dogs. We have no doubt that he will be someone's best friend.*Disclaimer: This pet is located in Texas. Once adoption is finalized the pet will be transported to the adopters location for an additional fee (currently $230-$250).* The adoption fee helps to cover some of the cost of vetting the animal prior to adoption (spay/neuter, microchipping, and up to date vaccinations). Please fill out an adoption application to be considered for adoption. https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=ch2817&method=online_form_html&formid=41

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Animal Profile: Butch is an estimated 18 month old 45lb neutered male shepherd/pit mix (aka Texas Brown Dog) who joined us from Texas on 9/22. Butch is good with dogs and playful; he's still learning about boundaries so would do best with non-grumpy dogs. He is not aggressive just very playful. He is very friendly, good on leash, and crate trained. We will share more about him as we get to know him in foster care.  Foster Update: Butch is settled into his PNW foster home and getting used to his new surroundings. He is friendly and social, and he responds well to people.  He is decent on leash but does get distracted with most things around him. He is easy to redirect to his handler to continue his walk. He does like to chase birds and squirrels in the yard.  Butch does eat and drink very fast, probably a result of being a stray in Texas. He will need a slow feeder bowl and smaller amounts of water given more frequently during the day.  He is not a vocal dog, so he might do well in an apartment setting. The only time he does get vocal is to signal that he needs to use the restroom, a handy signal for us humans! He doesn't seem bother with noises outside either, so close living in an urban environment probably would be fine.  A perfect home for Butch would probably include older, dog savvy children since Butch does like to jump on people to greet them. Butch will need a home without a cat. As mentioned before, he would probably do ok in an apartment as long as his mental and physical exercise needs are met each day.  Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550, which includes spay/neuter, current vaccinations per AVMA standards, microchip, negative heartworm test if over 6 months, and health certificate. Your donation may be tax deductible as DG is a 501c3 organization. Apply Online: www.doggoneseattle.org/adoption-application Animal History: This dog was transferred from Freer Animal Shelter in Texas and arriving to Seattle area foster care on 9/22. This dog will be fostered in the greater Seattle area and available for adoption once evaluated.May 29, 2023, 4:05 am
