Story
My name is Ozzie and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m 3 y.o. and weigh 25 lbs. I came to my foster home here in the Chicago area with my sister Roxie after our human died. Yeah, my whole world turned upside down and I’ve been nervous and sad. But my foster family has helped reassure me that things will be okay. I’m a really good boy! I’m very friendly with people and great with kids. Sometimes I get so excited to meet someone new that I jump up to say hi, so I may not be the best match for really little kids or someone I might knock over. But if you’re looking for a sweet, snuggly, affectionate boy who will be your shadow always, then I’m your man! I do well with a predictable routine that I can get used to. It helps me feel secure. I’m pretty laid-back. In my foster home I go right into my kennel at dinner time and at bedtime without any complaining. I’m potty trained and crate trained and am a good boy when my foster family has to leave the house. Get very vocal when I hear voices or see people walking past the house or when the doorbell rings, so I’m probably not a good match for a condo or apartment. It takes time for me to get to know and trust another dog, so you’ll need to keep this in mind if you have other dogs at home. When I see other dogs when I’m out for a leash walk, I am reactive. I bark and sometimes lunge at them. But with proper gradual introductions, I have learned to get along with the other dogs here in my foster home. I would be fine as an only dog, as long as my humans have time to spend with me. I’d also do well with a friendly, easy-going dog, after some time to get to know each other. I don’t know how I’d do with cats or small pets, since there aren’t any here in my foster home. I’m neutered, vaccinated and healthy. If you live in the Midwest and looking for a handsome boy like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn about you so we can be sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
My name is Zeus and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m 5 years old and a friendly, playful boy who loves going for walks and watching out the window. I came to my foster home here in Columbus, IN, from a shelter. I was kind-of a mess, with missing fur and bad skin issues. SIRA helped me get the care I needed and now I’m a healthy and handsome 33-lb boy. I’m neutered and vaccinated and my skin is much better - I take Benadryl to keep it clear. I have an inverted nipple, which isn’t a big deal. Foster mom cleans it daily so it doesn’t get infected. I am outgoing and love to meet new people. I love baths – they make me feel so good! And I love to play and get the zoomies. Foster mom says I’m goofy. She says I have a goofy expression on my face that makes me look like I’m a bit confused. I’m working on house-training. I’m learning but sometimes get distracted outside and forget to go potty. I wear a belly band inside to prevent accidents. My perfect forever home would be one with patient humans and a window I can watch from and sometimes bark at the things that pass by. I haven’t met any little human kids yet, but I like older kids. I am kind-of picky about living with other dogs. I’d really love to be an only dog and not have to share my human’s attention. I like to chase cats and outside critters, so I’m probably not a good match for a home with cats or other small pets. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a sweet and silly boy to be your best friend, visit www.savingshibas.com to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps confirm that we’d be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet.

Story
My name is Travey and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m just over 1 y.o. and I weigh 23 lbs. I came to my foster home in the Chicago area after I got loose, had a bit of a mis-adventure, and ended up in doggie jail. I haven't been at my foster home long, so I'm still adjusting. I love getting love and attention from foster mom and my favorite place to sleep is in bed with her! I'm super smart, eager to please, and learn quickly. I'm potty trained and do well in my crate when foster mom goes out (though I've been known to deploy the "Shiba scream" if I'm left all alone). I love treats, which helps motivate me to learn. I have mastered leash walking. I might pull if I see a squirrel or bunny that I want to chase (I've definitely got a high prey drive). I've also learned how to jump over gates that are supposed to contain me, so my forever family will need to be careful to prevent escapes. I'm a curious girl, but new things are hard for me. I'm suspicious of new people and will bark at them. I can be reactive to other dogs when I'm out on walks. I'll be fiercely loyal to my family and will need humans who have time to focus on me too. Because I did not have a great upbringing, I'll need a patient forever family who will commit to training and teaching me how to become a well-adjusted adult. My ideal forever home will be one with a securely fenced yard - no shared walls, since I can be vocal. I'd do best in a home with no cats or small pets, since I've got a high prey drive. I get along with most of the other dogs in my foster home, but can be dog-selective, so a laid-back, easy going dog friend would be best. Foster mom thinks I'd do okay with older children once I get to know them, but I'm not a good match for really little kids. I'm a healthy girl - spayed and vaccinated. I had giardia when I came into foster care, but am recovering nicely and feeling fine. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a best friend and diamond in the rough, then I'm your girl. Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you to make sure we'll be a good match. Once approved, they'll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
My name is Nyak and I’m looking for my forever home. I came to my foster home here in Joliet, IL, from a commercial breeding facility where I spent my whole life. I’m a quiet, laid-back guy who doesn’t cause any trouble. My favorite things are treats (mozzarella cheese sticks and liver sausage) and all of the pets and scritches foster mom gives me! I also enjoy watching all of the neighborhood action through the window. I don’t bark, but boy, I would like to chase the birds and squirrels I see. I’m a good boy in the house, even when my foster mom has to leave. I’m potty trained and don’t have accidents unless I don’t get regular potty breaks. I love to go for walks and leave “pee-mail” for the other dogs to read. I get along with the other dogs in my foster home and am always curious, but polite, to dogs we meet on walks. I haven’t met any cats or small pets, so I don’t know what I’d think about them. I did live briefly with a couple of human kids and that was fine with me. I’m 10 years old and I weigh around 27 lbs. I’m neutered and vaccinated and a healthy boy. When I first came into foster care, I had occasional episodes that looked like seizures. I went to see vets and got poked and prodded and tested and everything, but the vets could find nothing wrong. They decided that I should stop receiving monthly flea/tick preventatives, since some dogs are really sensitive to them. That seems to have helped! So the vet says I don’t need any special care or treatment – just something for my forever family to be aware of. My perfect forever family will be very careful to prevent escapes since I’m really fast (vigilant when opening doors and gates). They should be patient with me as I continue to adjust to live in a home with a family. In return, I’ll be a loyal friend and quiet companion. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a handsome guy like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. Story
BONDED PAIR --  Only adopting these two dogs together. We will not separate them.        2026 started off really hard on these two special boys. Introducing Blanco (white) and Shorty, a bonded pair of three year old, 10 pound, Chihuahuas seeking a new home. Their previous family lost their home and two dogs to a terrible house fire on New Years Eve, causing them to seek help for Blanco and Shorty since they had nowhere to live. Our rescue learned of the plight of this family and stepped in to help.         Blanco and Shorty are initially shy but they warm up in no time. Both boys are super sweet, very affectionate dogs who love their person/people and each other. Blanco is dog social but Shorty (brown and white coat) prefers just Blanco’s company; they seem to seek each other out for emotional support. Shorty and Blanco enjoy keeping their foster mom’s lap nice and warm and are happy to cuddle with her a bit. They are thoroughly enjoying the large, securely fenced yard of their foster home where they can run and play. When it’s time to rest, they snuggle up together in the dog bed and keep each other company. Blanco and Shorty are completely housebroken; they are currently fearful of the leash so they require a securely fenced yard for potty breaks.         ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:  Blanco and Shorty require they be the only dogs in the home. Additionally, they are approved for adult households, or adults and children over the age of 12 years.         These dogs have been examined by licensed veterinarians, provided inoculations, been tested for diseases, dewormed, neutered, and microchipped. Story
Sugar is a really good dog. Since we had a child we haven’t been able to provide her with the time and stimulation she deserves. She is a low energy dog who would just like to nap next to you as you watch tv or play games. She loves to go for walks and someplace with a backyard would be best. She doesn’t play with toys or fetch as much as we’ve tried. She gets along with other dogs and goes to dog parks. She loves to eat and will do tricks for snacks. She knows her tricks in hand commands, English and Spanish. She does snore a bit and makes “bubble noises”. She does have some issues to be aware of. She has separation anxiety. She doesn’t destroy things but she will howl and cry a bit and gets upset when she isn’t near you. She does like to try to steal food. She also has seasonal allergies right before fall where her paws get itchy and needs a shot from vet. Otherwise she is the sweetest and smartest dog you’ll meet. She has a big personality for a dog.
