Story
My name is Travey and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m just over 1 y.o. and I weigh 23 lbs. I came to my foster home in the Chicago area after I got loose, had a bit of a mis-adventure, and ended up in doggie jail. I haven't been at my foster home long, so I'm still adjusting. I love getting love and attention from foster mom and my favorite place to sleep is in bed with her! I'm super smart, eager to please, and learn quickly. I'm potty trained and do well in my crate when foster mom goes out (though I've been known to deploy the "Shiba scream" if I'm left all alone). I love treats, which helps motivate me to learn. I have mastered leash walking. I might pull if I see a squirrel or bunny that I want to chase (I've definitely got a high prey drive). I've also learned how to jump over gates that are supposed to contain me, so my forever family will need to be careful to prevent escapes. I'm a curious girl, but new things are hard for me. I'm suspicious of new people and will bark at them. I can be reactive to other dogs when I'm out on walks. I'll be fiercely loyal to my family and will need humans who have time to focus on me too. Because I did not have a great upbringing, I'll need a patient forever family who will commit to training and teaching me how to become a well-adjusted adult. My ideal forever home will be one with a securely fenced yard - no shared walls, since I can be vocal. I'd do best in a home with no cats or small pets, since I've got a high prey drive. I get along with most of the other dogs in my foster home, but can be dog-selective, so a laid-back, easy going dog friend would be best. Foster mom thinks I'd do okay with older children once I get to know them, but I'm not a good match for really little kids. I'm a healthy girl - spayed and vaccinated. I had giardia when I came into foster care, but am recovering nicely and feeling fine. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a best friend and diamond in the rough, then I'm your girl. Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you to make sure we'll be a good match. Once approved, they'll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
My name is Roxy and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m 5 y.o. and weigh 30 lbs. I came to my foster home here in Des Plaines, IL, after my person died. That was so hard, but thanks to SIRA, I’m happy again and my goofy side is on full display. I love attention from my foster family. I’ll lay on my back and paddle my paws in the air for a belly rub. I’m not shy – I love saying hi to strangers. If I am not getting enough adoration, I’ll boop you with my nose and grumble at you to PAY ATTENTION TO MEEE!!! I’m patient and gentle with little kids. I sometimes get excited and jump up on my hind legs, so my foster mom says I’ll do best with humans who are steady on their feet and not easily knocked over. I’m a good girl in the house – no potty accidents or destruction. I love to play with other dogs! I’m friendly, but like most Shibas, I play rough, so my dog sibling should be able to handle my energy. I love to chase critters in the yard, so I’m not a good match for cats or small pets. I’ll chase anything that moves – especially blowing leaves! I’m obsessed. I enjoy leash walks, but foster mom says I could use some training since I pull. Like many Shibas, I’m a door bolter, so my forever family should guard against escapes (baby gates help keep me from squirting out of open doors). I’m healthy – spayed and vaccinated. I have a skin allergy, which is managed well with medication and diet. My perfect forever family will have another playful and energetic dog to be my friend, no cats/small pets, and I’d do best in a home with no shared walls, since I’m vocal. If you’re looking for a someone who’ll be your shadow (especially if there’s food around), then I’m your girl! Foster mom says I'll make someone really happy. If you live in the Midwest and are interested, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home to make sure we’d be a good match. Once approved they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Tortellini and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m still a puppy – I turn 1 y.o. in October – and I’m a little girl, currently 15 lbs. According to my DNA test, I’m 56% Shiba and 33% Australian Cattle Dog. I came to my foster home here in Quincy, IL, after being abandoned. I was just trying to survive, but the property owner was threatening to shoot me, so I’m grateful that SIRA came to get me! I was scared and uncertain at first, but I’ve settled in and am feeling much more relaxed. I love the affection and attention that I get from my foster family. The chew toys here are great and have fun unstuffing all of the soft toys. I’m also learning to walk on a leash. Foster mom says I’m doing well and with some more practice, I’ll be a pro. I’m a good girl in the house with no potty accidents. And I even le foster mom trim my nails without a fuss. I’m not a fan of being in my kennel, though. There are other dogs here in my foster home and I like to play and wrestle with them. At first, I was protective of my food, but once I figured out that there’s plenty for all of us dogs, I’m not as worried now. I haven’t met any cats here, but I love to hunt and chase critters in the yard, so foster mom thinks I’m mot a good match for small pets. I can be shy and cautious around strangers at first and loud noises spook me. I haven’t been exposed to really little kids, but I’m warming up to the teenagers here in my foster home. I’m a healthy girl, spayed and vaccinated. My perfect forever home will have a securely fenced yard for me to play in. Foster mom thinks I’ll do best in a home without shared walls. If you live in the Midwest and want to be my forever home, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. Story
This cutie is BONNIE, a very sweet, initially shy,  3-year-old, 17 pound, female, Maltese/Poodle cross. After a couple days of settling in with her foster family which has adults and teens, they found Bonnie to be easy going, a  “go with the flow”  kind of dog in the home. Her foster home has a couple Bully breed mixes and a couple smaller mixed breed dogs; Bonnie gets along easily with all but her best friend is Kimbo (a little Terrier mix) who is also up for adoption.   Bonnie is housebroken. She is trained to use potty pads but is being trained to toilet outside on the grass and is doing well with that, in part because of the other dogs in her foster home showing her. Bonnie really enjoys spending time in the backyard. She is a bit of a barker so she’s not appropriate for apartment or condo living. Bonnie requires a calmer home that has another dog with whom to socialize and a securely fenced yard.    Because her first owners didn’t introduce Bonnie to other people when she was a puppy, it takes her time to get comfortable with new people. Taking things slowly with her is essential - and it works! Once Bonnie is comfortable, she is very sweet and friendly. She enjoys going for walks but she can be reactive, which is her insecurity and fear to unknown people. She would benefit from continued gentle training to help her not find the world such a scary place. Bonnie’s foster family is taking her for short walks to help her have positive experiences.    This dog has been examined by licensed veterinarians, provided inoculations, been tested for diseases, dewormed, spayed, and microchipped. Story
This cutie is KIMBO, a male, Cairn Terrier/Chihuahua mix, who is around 5-6 years old and weighing around 16-18 pounds. He has a rough/wiry coat that just needs routine brushing. Kimbo is a sensitive dog who was treated unkindly when he was young so he requires time to adjust to his new surroundings and people; a patient and understanding adopter is a must for him, but he is SO worth it. He is a very sweet, shy dog who is great with other small dogs and enjoys playing with them for hours. When he’s done playing, he loves to nap on his foster mom’s lap. Kimbo lives easily in a foster home with two teenagers and his foster mom and a few dogs. We are seeking a calm, adult or adult with teen(s) household, another small, playful dog with whom he can buddy, and a securely fenced yard.  Kimbo enjoys going for walks and will benefit from continued walks to help him become more and more comfortable with seeing and hearing "life" going on around him. Kimbo is crated when people leave the home and at night, which he accepts easily. He is housebroken when taken out on a schedule.  He is uncomfortable meeting new people so he is not a dog that would do well with an adopter who wants to have a dog who goes out and meets people at events, restaurants, etc.  Kimbo's history is sad; his owner got him as a puppy and when the kids tired of him, he was relegated to living in the basement with minimal attention. He has done very well in foster care and will make a great companion for a Terrier loving person. This dog has been examined by a licensed veterinarian, provided vaccines, been dewormed, tested for diseases, neutered, and microchipped.  ADOPTION APPLICATIONS are available upon request from acaringplace@comcast.net.   A Caring Place - All Breed Dog Rescue adopts throughout the Greater Chicagoland Area. Story
Hi! My name is Fergie. I'm just a big ole love bug! Yup! That's me! I'm a 1-1/2 year-old, Boxer Bully mix with reddish color fur, a white splotch on my face and around my neck down my chest, four white paws, a paintbrush tail with a white tip, and a pink muzzle. Even though I'm around 50 pounds, I believe I am definitely a lapdog. I'm very sweet and gentle, and I just love people!  I love running around the yard, playing with my canine siblings and human kiddos, and chewing bones. But....my favorite activity is cuddling with humans on the couch! Oh, and I love napping and treats too. I do well walking on a leash, am crate trained, and am housebroken. By the way, my foster Mom says I am also a good watch dog because I bark when there is someone or something outside. I sleep well at night with no accidents and go in my crate on command during the day while my foster mom's at work. I love sleeping on the bed curled up with my canine sisters and humans.  So a really cool thing is that I am learning how to ring a bell to let my foster Mom know I need to go outside. I already know sit and I'm working on the command off. Off is a little hard for me, because I get so excited when I meet someone new, but I almost have it down. I'm pretty good at coming when I'm called too, but sometimes I get distracted. Would you like to share a forever home with lots of cuddles and sloppy dog kisses? Then, I'm your girl! I hope I get to meet you soon! Because Fergie-Faye does great with other dogs of many sizes, we are seeking an adopter with another playful dog in the home. Fergie has been examined by licensed veterinarians, provided inoculations, been tested for diseases, dewormed, spayed, and microchipped; she is housebroken and crate trained. ADOPTION APPLICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST from acaringplace@comcast.net. A Caring Place - All Breed Dog Rescue adopts throughout the Greater Chicagoland Area.
