Story
My name is Brad and I’m looking for my forever home. I came to my foster home here in Machesney Park, IL, from a commercial breeding facility where I lived my whole life, making puppies. I’m a gentle, easy-going 9-y.o. guy. I was pretty scared at first, and I’m still cautious, but my curiosity and affectionate side still wins. Foster dad says he’s proud of me – on the very first day that I arrived, I got brave enough to approach him to say hello. I just looked up into his eyes and I think he melted! Aw, shucks. Yeah, I’m a good boy – I don’t get into trouble or have accidents. There are so many new things I’ve never experienced here, and noises and commotion can still spook me. But I like to follow the humans around and watch what they’re doing. And when foster dad sits quietly in his recliner, I’ll boop his hand to ask for some scritches. And I’ll look up into his eyes to make sure he knows how thankful I am. There are other dogs here and I like them. I’m also good with the human kids. If the 3-year-old gets too loud, I just find a quiet spot away from the racket. The 13-year-old is cool. I like to sit by her when she’s sitting at her desk. My perfect forever home would be a calm and laid-back family. I’ll need a securely fenced yard since I’m still learning how to walk on a leash. If you have other nice dogs, that’s fine. I’ve never met a cat, but foster dad thinks I’d be fine with a dog-savvy kitty. You’ll need to be careful to prevent escapes, since like many Shibas, I’m interested to explore what’s on the other side of an open door. I’m healthy – neutered and vaccinated and weigh 34 lbs. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a sweet, calm, all-around nice dog to melt your heart and be your very best friend, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you to make sure we’ll be a good match. Then once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet!

Story
My name is Faye and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m a 3 y.o. voluptuous, strong-willed beauty! I came to my foster home here in Machesney Park, IL, from a commercial breeding facility where I made puppies. I’m not used to living in a house with humans, but I’ve figured out how to manage them. I’m a good girl – smart too! I don’t have accidents and I don’t bother anyone or get into any trouble. Well… not anything obvious. Foster dad would like to boss me around. He has tried hooking me up to a harness and a leash to lead me where he wants me to go. Nope. Absolutely not. I don’t make a fuss, though. I just lay there and don’t move. That’s my super power. You see, I’m a big girl. Currently 46 pounds of fabulous – like Lizzo as a red-head and without the glitter. I use all of my glorious presence to my advantage. Mostly, I confound foster dad by lying exactly in front of whatever door he’d like to open. To move me, he’s got to pick up all 46-pounds of me. Ha! He deserves it! Do you know what his pet-name is for me? The Land Whale! I mean seriously! My size doesn’t hinder me at all. I’m lightning fast when I want to be. I can squeeze myself into hiding places in the yard when foster dad wants me to come inside. There are other dogs here in my foster home, but I mostly just keep to myself. I ignore the 3-year-old human. But I’m growing quite fond of the 13-year-old human. I like to hang out in her room and I will usually obey foster mom, which of course drives foster dad crazy!! HA! My perfect forever family will be appropriately patient and understanding – and pet me when I’m ready for affection. If you have dogs or kids or kids, that’s fine. Cats? I’ve never met them, but I can probably ignore them too. You must have a securely fenced yard, since it’s gonna take work for me to be seen in public in that harness and leash contraption! I’m healthy – spayed and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and are ready for Fabulous Faye to enter your life, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will connect you with my foster dad, so we can meet.

Story
My name is Sammy and I’m looking for my forever home! I am a curious, smart, goofy, playful and sweet boy, around 7 y.o. I live in Munster, IN, with my foster family, but for most of my life I lived at a commercial breeding facility where I helped make puppies. Living in a home with humans is so much nicer! At first, I was shy and skittish around people, but then I learned that humans give belly rubs! OMG - what could be better? So now I follow them around everywhere. I haven't met any little humans so far, so I don't know how I'd react to them. There are other dogs here and I love to play with them. Foster dad says I'm a little bit bossy with them sometimes, but we get along well. I like being outside in the fenced yard, especially during bunny season! I've caught 3 of them so far and always on the lookout for more. Yep. I got the Shiba prey-drive gene! Because of this, I'm probably not a good match for a home with cats or other small pets. I’m learning so many new things here, like how to walk on a leash. Foster dad says I'll be a pro with a bit more practice. I’m potty trained and a good boy in the house. I will happily entertain myself with my favorite squeaky ball. I get a bit anxious if left all by myself, but if there are other dogs around, that helps a lot. My perfect forever home will have experience preventing escapes from open doors, gates or fences, since I'm always looking to chase more bunnies. I'd love to have a securely fenced yard and another dog to keep me company, but those are not required. I weigh 30 lbs and a healthy boy - neutered and vaccinated. The vet says that my kneecaps are a little bit loose. They don't bother me and the vet does not feel that I need surgery at this time. If you live in the Midwest and want a handsome fella like me to give belly rubs to, visit www.savingshibas.com for more info and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you so they can make sure we'll be a good match. Once approved, they'll introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet!

Story
My name is Juno and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m 5 y.o. and weigh 35 lbs. I came to my foster home in Joliet, IL, because my owner had to go to a nursing home. I was sad and confused, but my foster mom promised me that everything was going to be okay! You see, I’m a big teddy bear. I love attention from my humans and want to be wherever they are. I love scritches and scratches and treats too! Some things I DO NOT love are baths and crates and gates that keep me from going where I want to go. Luckily, I’m a very good boy when I’m left alone. Foster mom learned that I can be trusted and won’t be destructive. But fair warning, I might counter surf if yummy food is left where I can reach. Are you looking for a walking buddy? Cause I am ready to GO, GO, GO! I sometimes pull a bit on the leash (especially if I see a critter). Yes, I have a high prey drive, so my foster mom says that my forever home should not have cats or small pets. There are other dogs in my foster home and I am pretty good with them. I play rough, and can get possessive if there are food/treats/toys involved, but otherwise I’m a calm and sweet boy. Foster mom thinks I’d do well as an only dog or in a multi-dog home if my forever family knows how to avoid resource guarding. You will also need to be very careful to prevent escapes, since I’m fast and slippery when I spot an open door or gate. I’d love a fenced yard, but regular leash walks are fine too. I’d do best in a home with no shared walls and no small kids. I’m a healthy boy – neutered and vaccinated. I have allergies and my skin was a mess when SIRA rescued me. But it's under control now with daily oral medication and I feel so much better! If you live in the Midwest and are looking for your very own handsome teddy bear, then here I am! Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA get to know you so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will connect you with my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Nagi and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m 6 years old and a big boy – 46 lbs of pure love ready to be your very best friend! I came to my foster home here in Avon, IN, after my former owner could no longer care for me. I love attention and affection from my humans and I love making them happy. I will stick to my person through thick and thin. If you are feeling stressed or sad or discomfort, I’ll be right there by your side to offer my comfort. I love going for walks, though foster dad says that I could improve my manners and not pull so much. I’m not a big fan of going into my crate when my family is around, because I want to be right there by their side. But I’m fine to hang out there when my foster family leaves the house. There are other dogs here in my foster home and I get along well with them. But I’m not a push-over. I will defend myself when necessary – let’s just say if there’s an overly bossy female dog who gets in my face - but I’m not naming names. I have a strong prey-drive and I love to chase bunnies and birds in the fenced back yard here at my foster home, so my foster parents recommend that my forever home not have cats or other small pets. I also like to bolt towards any open door or gate, so my forever family will need to be very careful to guard against escapes. My perfect forever family will have a securely fenced yard and time to spend with me, whether we’re out together on an adventure or hanging out at home. My foster family recommends a home with no shared walls (I know how to use my voice!). I haven’t met any little humans, so I don’t know what I’d think of them, but there are older kids (12 and 17) in my foster home and I do well with them. I’m fully house-trained and a healthy boy – neutered and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a best buddy who’ll be by your side, making you happy through thick and thin, then I’m your boy! Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we’d be a good match. Story
This cutie is KIMBO, a male, Cairn Terrier/Chihuahua mix, who is around 4-5 years old and weighing around 20 pounds. He has a rough/wiry coat that just needs routine brushing. Kimbo is a sensitive dog who needs time to adjust to his new surroundings and people, so a patient and understanding adopter is a must for him. He is a very sweet, shy dog who is great with other small dogs and enjoys playing with them for hours. When he’s done playing, he loves to nap on his foster mom’s lap. Kimbo lives easily in a foster home with two teenagers and his foster mom and a few dogs; we have learned he is frightened of most men, loud noises, and sudden movements. Therefore, we are seeking a calm, adult or adult with teen(s) household, another small, playful dog with whom he can buddy, and a securely fenced yard.  Kimbo enjoys going for shorter walks and will benefit from continued leash training since he pulls on his leash due to excitement; it appears he wasn’t taken for walks prior to rescue. Kimbo is crated when people leave the home and at night, which he accepts easily. He is housebroken when taken out on a schedule.  He is uncomfortable meeting new people so he is not a dog that would do well with an adopter who wants to have a dog who goes out and meets people at events, restaurants, etc.  This dog has been examined by a licensed veterinarian, provided vaccines, been dewormed, tested for diseases, neutered, and microchipped. Our online application is not functioning currently; therefore ADOPTION APPLICATIONS are available upon request from acaringplace@comcast.net.  We apologize for the inconvenience. A Caring Place - All Breed Dog Rescue adopts throughout the Greater Chicagoland Area. All dogs and puppies live in foster homes, providing you as the adopter, with information on the animal's behaviors, needs, and requirements. We are always in search of fosters care providers. If you are one of those special people willing to open your heart and home to an animal in need and would like to receive information on how you can foster an animal, please contact us.     August 24, 2025, 6:10 pm
