Story
We adopted Lexi about 10 years ago. At that time it was unknown that Lexi is terrified of fireworks and storms. As she got older those fears are uncontrollable for us even with meds from her Vet. My husband and I are both retired. We are loosing sleep and nerves and as much as we love her can’t take care of her any longer. Lexi also has glaucoma and some allergies which those meds are expensive also and we can’t afford her any longer.

Story
Click here for Bourbon's Facebook Album April 2026: Bourbon is a very handsome Orange and White English Setter- not a Golden Retriever but he is big and fuzzy and friendly like one. He is an owner surrender and originally came from a breeder in Kentucky. Sadly his owner passed away and he wound up in a kennel because the older widow couldn't handle him. He was loved on and is a very sweet dog and is getting along with the dogs in his temporary foster home. He is deaf- but he is very attentive and affectionate. We are looking for a pet home in the Chicago area that has a safe fenced in yard for obvious reasons. Deaf dogs can learn hand signals and Boubon is food motivated so that will help with his training. He is doing well with cage training but will need work on house manners and house training. No kitties as he is too interested. We are doing blood work the week of April 27th as tick born disease is a huge problem in Setters and can cause deafness if transmitted from mom to pup. We'll know soon, but he seems to be responding to proactive antibiotics already. If you would like to help, please click HERE to submit a foster to adopt home application. Story
Emma's Family GOFUNDMEEmma's Family Facebook Page Emma is the cutest, spunkiest, nearly 100% Beagle Rock Star and Mamma in our rescue. She was saved from an over-crowded shelter in Central Illinois in February. We were surprised to find Miss Emma was pregnant and gave birth to 4 beautiful puppies on April 7th. Her nursing duties are over and now it's time for her to find her forever home. We did DNA test her and she is mostly Beagle with a hint of Chihuahua to give her a little sass. She is very friendly and her puppies taught her how to play with toys and now she loves to play fetch. Emma is about 27lbs but could stand to loose some of her baby weight. She would enjoy daily walks and play in the yard. She's brilliant and could also compete is dog sports like Barn Hunt, Nose Works and Fetch. Our vet wanted to give her body time to recover post puppies so we are looking for a Foster to Adopt family in the Chicago area as we'll need to get her spay done in August. We also require our adopters to have safe fenced in yards. Emma is super friendly with other dogs and it would be nice for her to have a playful companion or 2. Story
Visit IBR's Facebook Page to see Whitley and her puppies in action! On May 8th, I was notified about an English Setter that was in an over-crowded shelter in Kentucky and she was very pregnant. Luckily we got Whitley to town a few days later, and we got her to our vet and settled into foster care. She delivered the Trend Setter litter on May 17th. We were able to chat with her previous owner and suspected that the daddy might be the neighbor's Great Dane and DNA did confirm the puppies are half Dane and half Setter. It has been a gratifying experience helping mamma Whitley deliver her puppies and making sure she gets the best nutrition and care while she nurses her big beautiful puppies. They have been handled everyday, loved on, kissed all over and now they are playing with each other which is so fun to see. I can only imagine what magnificent dogs they will grow up to be, but they will be high energy like mom and will absolutely need homes with safe fenced in yards. While Whitley is a pretty 45lb tricolor and white Setter, daddy's genetics are more dominant and the puppies look like little Danes. HOWEVER, I believe they will have delicate features like their mamma and they are already showing some very sweet Setter traits including being affectionate, and giving kisses. They also LOVE to be loved on, and especially love to be held and cuddled. These little puppies are just pure joy- so incredibly special! I am amazed how fast they are growing and can only imagine how big they will be as adults. We are only offering Foster to Adopt in the Chicago area as the puppies will need blood work when they are 8 months old and because they are mixed with a larger breed, we want to let them grow with the benefits of their hormones to help them grow properly and to spay or neuter after a year. They will be available to move to their new homes after their exam and 1st vaccination around the 19th of July. Story
Click here for Arnold's Facebook Album June 2026: Arnold has found a loving foster home- YAY!! DNA results are in and Arnold and Dempster are 86% Beagle with another 6% Bassett and Labrador. They do have longer bodies like a Bassett Hound but sound all Beagle. Arnold, Dempster and Queenie as seen in their original Memphis, TN shelter video: https://youtube.com/shorts/FdASOSHTyP4?feature=share were dumped by family members after their owner died. All 3 tested positive for heartworms and all surely have tick borne disease and I can only imagine how bad Queenie's teeth are. They are all now safe in the Chicago area after a transport out of Memphis on 9-26. These 3 dogs have suffered some neglect besides their health care neglect, but with some time and patience they will learn to trust humans. Queenie has moved to her own foster. Arnold and Dempster just need a lot of human interaction and cuddles to help build their confidence. They are great with other dogs so a foster with confident well socialized dogs in the home will help them adjust to kindness. We need some exceptional fosters or foster to adopt homes that will help with their heartworm slow kill treatment plan. If you can help a frightened, neglected Beagle over come some serious neglect and learn to trust humans again, please PM me. Our foster or adoption application can be found at www.helpibr.org If you would like to help with their medical expenses, we have PayPal at www.illinoisbirddogrescue.org VENMO with @illinoisbirddogrescue and ZELLE with info@illinoisbirddogrescue.org If you would like to help, please click HERE to submit a foster to adopt home application. Markus and Melvin's Facebook Photo Album: https://www.facebook.com/media/set?set=a.1159748329529604&type=3 (copy and paste into your browser). 8-12-2025: The boys have been in doggie day care/ boarding for a couple of weeks are are doing great!! They are warming up to the staff at Tail Gate for Dogs and having a blast playing with all their new friends. We have decided that the boys can move into separate homes but there needs to be a playful dog buddy in their new foster to adopt home. They are doing great with our heartworm slow-kill program and we are hopeful they will be negative by the end of the year. The great part about our program is there is no exercise restriction so they can play and take walks. 7-13-2025: The boys have been in doggie day care/ boarding for a couple of weeks are are doing great!! They are warming up to the staff at Tail Gate for Dogs and having a blast playing with all their new friends. We would love to move them into a foster home, however, with a loving, caring patient family to help them get ready for their forever home. 6-21-2025: Marky and Melvin are youngish Beagle brothers we saved from an over-crowded shelter in Memphis, TN. Sadly both boys have heartworms and both have a grade 2/6 heart murmur that we hope will improve the longer they are in our heartworm slow-kill program. My guess is they are about 2 years old and have not suffered too much kindness from humans as they are timid and a little feral-- but there is hope. They are great with other dogs and cat safe. I have seen them fight with each other, but for the most part, they are a pair. We need a loving, patient foster to help them learn that most people are kind. Marky- the bigger one is a little more open to pets and cuddles. I found that both boys liked hot dogs and food is going to be a huge part of their recovery. We will be doing blood work soon, but I can just about guarantee that they both have at least Lyme disease that may be causing the heart murmurs. We are treating them as if they are infected as part of our heartworm slow-kill protocol anyways. We will also be adding some good supplements to help their heart and bodies heal. If you are interested in fostering, our application is at helpibr.org If you would like to help sponsor their care, we have PayPal at www.illinoisbirddogrescue.org VENMO with @illinoisbirddogrescue and ZELLE with info@illinoisbirddogrescue.org
