Story
Allie and Poppy have waited 2 1/2 years to find their forever home. They are doing great in their foster home, but we want to find them the perfect forever home. They are a bonded pair and must be adopted together. It may take them a little time to adjust to a new home, but once they feel safe, they will be loving and affectionate. We don't want them to travel far again so we are looking for a new foster or forever home in the Chicago area and you must have a safe fenced in yard. Please call Lisa for more information at 630-694-1359. ***NEW PHOTOS AND VIDEO-- DECEMBER 2023***Click here for Allie and Poppy's Facebook Album ***UPDATE DECEMBER 2023*** Allie and Poppy are finally in the Chicago area and safe in foster care. They truly are a bonded pair of sisters and are doing great in foster care. We are looking for a loving family of adults only so help them continue to learn about unconditional love. They are very sweet once they feel safe and are often found cuddling on the couch with their foster dad. As both were recently diagnosed with tick borne disease, treatment is going well. It's just a nightmare in Mississippi with ticks being around all year long. At least we know and we are always transparent with all our adopters if this is a health concern. Our girls have been through so much to get here, we hope we can find them the most perfect loving home. Allie and Abby are a bonded pair of sisters. Abby aka Poppy is in good health and was the best companion to little Allie who needed major surgery to save her life. This is all documented in their Facebook album. Their mom and 2 brothers have moved to Illinois, and we are hopeful we can find a loving family in the Chicago area that can continue to help Allie with her moistened food regimen now that her surgery is over. The girls are best buddies and love to snuggle and cuddle together. They have lived a sheltered life on a Mississippi farm so it might take them a little time to adjust to suburban living- the city would be too much for them. The perfect home will have a family with older kids and perhaps another dog they can build confidence with. The perfect home will also have a safe traditionally fenced in yard- no invisible fences. August 2021: Allie, Artie, Albert and Abby are 3-month-old Super Mutts that are in need of foster or Foster to Adopt homes in the Chicago area. Their mom is a Mississippi mixed breed that suffered neglect and will need heartworm treatment. Her 4 surviving pups are doing well. The family is still in central Mississippi but once we have families lined up, we will transport north. If you would like to help, please click HERE to submit a foster to adopt home application. Story
George's Facebook Album February 2024: at long last-- my sweetie pie is heartworm negative!! So are 3 of his sisters which makes me very proud as Illinois Birddog Rescue will only do the slow kill treatment plan. His 3 sisters are in loving forever homes and I can hope that his perfect new momma is out there looking for him. The funny part about Georgie is that lately he has turned into a fuzzball with the funniest hair. He is also have the best time watching the squirrels in the yard as we have several building nests in our big trees. George has also become the sweetest most loving dog. He loves to be loved on. He loves to be brushed and he loves any attention he can get. January 2024: I've taken quite a few indoor photos of Georgie since the weather change so take a look at his album. He is so happy being an indoor dog considering his past life. I've gotten to know him a lot better too. He's been so great with all my dogs, especially my senior dogs and he is 100% cat safe. His passion is squirrel hunting and he will watch the antics of the squirrels for hours if I would let him. Lately we have been doing a lot more cuddles and George loves to be brushed. He's been a good sport about modeling the fundraising dog coats and a dog bed we also had in a fundraiser. The perfect home with George would be with a single lady or a pair of ladies that will give him time to trust. While I've always been able to love on George, it would be an adjustment for him to move to a new forever home. If there was a sweet female playful dog in the home, that would be even better. I have not taken him out and about so I don't know how he would do at a pet store or on a walk. My goal has just always been to help him get over the horrible life he had prior to coming into our rescue in June of 2022. He seems to have suffered the worst and is fearful with flashlights especially. He can get overly excited when folks walk by the house and delivery vehicles also get him a little excited. The sound of garbage trucks tend to scare him too. George will need a home with a privacy fence or a fence that has vertical bars which is working well for his fence jumping sister. In the perfect home, George will be a loving companion and if with a single lady-- a reliable watch dog. I am hopeful that his next heartworm test will be negative. Lyme disease is NOT curable so he will have to have annual testing and periodic antibiotic therapy the rest of his life. June 2022: George is a very handsome Liver/ Tricolor and white Field bred English Setter. He is an owner surrender and lived most of his life in an outdoor pen were he was trained to pee and poop through wires that he was also force to walk on. His neglect includes heartworm and Lyme disease and he had a 103 temperature upon arrival to our vet. George has started heartworm slow kill and is feeling better and we hope his sweet personality comes to the surface the longer he is treated. I was told the dogs are 6 years old but we will never know for sure. He is underweight and weighed 49lbs but should be closer to 55. We need to treat him at least a month before he can be neutered. He will need work on cage and house training. We are looking for a Foster to Adopt home in the Chicago area so we can monitor his care. candidates also need to have a traditional safe fenced in yard as the last thing George needs is any more stress. He is starved for attention and we are hopeful he will have a long happy life. If you would like to help, please click HERE to submit a foster to adopt home application. Story
Click here for Ruth's Facebook Album ***NEW PICTURES ADDED!!*** December 2023: Rue has waited 17 months to find the perfect home. I know is out there but it has to be in the Chicago area and Pointer experience is a must. She is a super fun dog, but she does need playful dog companions and she needs a romp at the dog park occasionally. She is not easy to walk but she might be fun for a runner. She does need a home with a privacy fence, I don't think I would trust her with an invisible fence. In the home, Rue can be mischievous, but she is super cuddly too. November 2023: Congratulations to Rue aka IBR's White Lightning BCAT! Rue has been busy running in Fast CAT competitions and finished her title in 6 runs and is now ranked 6th in the country for Pointers competing in this event AND she is the fastest female with an average speed of just over 26 miles per hour! SHE LOVES FAST CAT-- so my goal right now is to find her a great home where she can continue in this sport and ideally she would be an awesome dog to train in Agility. Surely there is a perfect home waiting for a dog like Rue -- to help her continue to be the bestest Pointer ever!!! 09-2023: LOTS of new photos of Rue in her Facebook album. I can't believe she's been in foster care over a year and I haven't found the perfect adopter. She is STUNNING- athletic and super playful with other dogs. The best home for Ruthie will have a decent sized fenced in yard and a young playful companion. Her potential adopter has to be educated in the field bred Pointer breed- especially since she runs way to big off leash. What's next for Rue-- hopefully some FastCAT competition. May as well find out how fast she is in mile per hour with this new fun AKC event. 6-2023: We are looking for an active home for Miss Ruthie with a playful companion. She is very food and toy motivated and I really think she would especially enjoy taking some Agility classes as she can jump over high barriers and she is fearless in the field. She was doing great at the local dog park until she jumped over the small fence into the parking lot-- STINKER, so the only dog parks she can go to must have at least a 5 foot fence. She's a riot at the dog park however-- she will chase birds and butterflies and we had been working on her running with the pack as she dogs run big and independent. She LOVES to play with the other dogs and the only challenge I am having is trying to keep weight on her. Ruthie is cage and house trained and she can be a couch potato when she has enough exercise. She's been waiting almost a year to find the perfect adopter-- she so deserves a loving home. Since Ruthie is a flight risk, we would prefer an adult only home and Pointer experience is preferred. I also listed her under the prefix GSP, because a GSP enthusiast would appreciate her good looks, but Ruthie is 100% American Field Bred "English" Pointer.. Ruthie is also a little more on the emotional side similar to her Continental cousins. She is also HIGH energy when she plays outside, but can settle down and be a couch potato inside. Off leash, that's where the comparisons end as she is a bigger running Field bred Pointer. The last time we went to the fenced in dog park- she ran out 200 and 400 yards or more. These dogs were actually bred to compete in horseback field trials, but Ruthie would do best being adopted by an active family that can let her run at the dog park occasionally but she really needs a young playful companion for her happiness. She is cage and house trained. Ruthie would also benefit from a structured obedience class. With a good quota of exercise everyday, Ruthie is going to make the best pet and companion. A fenced in yard is non- negotiable and NO HUNTING HOMES!!! 8-7-2022: Here's our new baby lemon Pointer-- Baby Ruth. She is one of many Pointers dumped by a breeder in Trenton, TN to the local shelter in Gibson County. She is about 7 months old and is around 35lbs. She is very thin and her foster family is feeding her 3 times a day to try and help her gain much needed weight. We are also worming her and also treating her with antibiotics for suspected tick borne disease. While Ruth is a playful, confident puppy, we are only looking for a pet foster to adopt home in the Chicago area. Potential adopters also need to have a safe traditional fenced in yard. She would also benefit in a home with a playful doggie companion. She is cat safe. Ruth was going to be killed in the over crowded shelter she was in and we are grateful to Pilot Bob for helping fly her in to the Chicago suburbs on July 25th. Pointers are the best dogs-- have so much joy and personality and we saved this little baby in time before she suffered from shelter life or any training abuse. Story
Click here for Shailene's Facebook Album June 2023: We got some new portraits of Miss Shailene. She is a beauty!! Shailene is in month #4 of heartworm slow kill and she is doing great!!! She is happy and loves to play with other dogs. She can also have limited running in the yard in her foster home. When she is tired, she is very cuddily and loves to snuggle with her foster mom. Most of our heartworm positive rescues move to Foster to Adopt and we are hopeful we can find a great family in the Chicago area to continue her care. She will need a playful companion in her new forever home. Feb 2023: Shailene is a very pretty petite hound mix that is about 9 months old. She was saved from an over crowed shelter in Arkansas and is safe in foster care. Sadly she tested positive for heartworms but as young as she is, it has to be a pretty minor infection. She is currently in our heart worm slow kill program and doing great. Shailene can be timid around new people and feels safer around dogs. We just don't know what kind of life she had before she came into rescue, so we are looking for a loving, caring Foster to Adopt home in the Chicago area. A fenced in yard is a requirement for adoption. If you would like to help, please click HERE to submit a foster to adopt home application. Story
I need to line up a new foster home for Peabody. I can't say enough about how brilliant this dog is-- I LOVED fostering him. He was so great with all my dogs and cats, he was incredibly affectionate and he was such a fun dog to take to the local dog park. I want him to land in a home where he will be walked everyday and it would be the best if he had a young female dog to play with as he loves the ladies. Potential adopters need to live in the Chicago area and you must have a fence at least 5 feet high as he has been known to jump a fence. My precious boy has waited over a year to find the perfect forever home and I just don't understand why. Please call Lisa at 630-694-1359 if you can help. Click here for Peabody's Facebook Album What a FUN PUPPY!!! I have had the pleasure of fostering Mr. Peabody for several weeks. He is so sweet and cuddily and he LOVES to play with other dogs and his new forever home will need to have some buddies for him to play with to keep him out of mischief. He seems to be more playful with females. Beagles are curious dogs and his little nose can get him into trouble and he also needs a home with a fence at least 5 feet tall. Mr. P has gone on road trips and has done well and he also was brilliant at the local dog park- he is the best dog!!!! Peabody was especially great meeting new dogs and super friendly with all the new people he met. I was so proud of him. I would say Peabody is about 99% house trained and while he does not like the cage, he has settled down in his cage when I leave the house. I do allow him to sleep in bed and he is a great little companion if you want a dog to snuggle with at night. During TV time I say he is annoyingly affectionate-- he loves to put his head on your shoulder. I am only looking for a pet home in the Chicago area and whoever is lucky to adopt will have the bestest new forever friend. As a side note- he did start competing in a sport called Fast CAT- which is a 100 yard dash lure chase. HE LOVES IT!!! It would be so great if I could find him a home where he could continue with that sport or dog agility or nose works. 2-27-2023: Peabody was found as a stray in the Mt. Vernon, IL area and wound up at the Jefferson County shelter. He's a beagle mix and a cute one at that. He is about a year old and will need to be neutered. He is cat safe and playful with dogs. Best guess is he is about 25lbs. Peabody will need a safe fenced in yard and would benefit from basic obedience and he would love a daily walk. Because he is food motivated and athletic, he would be a great dog for Agility, Nose Works and all around fun. He is going to make a wonderful family pet.
