Story
Trixie Age: 7-9 years Gender: Female Breed: Pit/Boxer mix Weight: 42 lbs Crate trained: Yes Potty trained: Yes Dog friendly: No Cat friendly: Yes Kid friendly: Yes Energy Level: Low-Medium Vaccinated: Yes Spayed: Yes Heartworm: Negative Microchipped: Yes Location: Trixie is being fostered in Wheaton, IL. No out of state applicants, please. Characteristics: Affectionate, silly, soulful, loyal. Trixie is a nine-year-old female pittie/boxer mix that is sweet as can be! When you see her running around a backyard you won't believe she's a senior dog. She is so small (45 lbs) that you can carry her in your pocket. She loves to nap in a pile of blankets, roll over for belly scratches, and smell every tree in the neighborhood. This gorgeous girl hasn't had the easiest life. She doesn't like to be left in a crate, but will happily hang out in one if a human is in the room with her. Trixie prefers to roam the house when unattended, because being shut in rooms makes her nervous. Trixie walks nicely on a leash and LOVES treats which makes for great training opportunities. She likes puzzle toys and lickimats. She's interested and curious about other dogs, but would do best as an only-dog unless her owners were very dedicated to slow introductions and maintaining separate spaces for all dogs. While Trixie doesn’t live with cats currently, she was cat tested and did amazing! We don't really know how old Trixie is, but her body condition upon rescue showed signs of neglect and lots of time spent outdoors in the elements. She deserves comfort and love from here on out! If you're looking to make special memories with a very deserving dog, consider Miss Trixie! She will make you laugh every day with her goofy antics and zest for life. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DHDN/Dog

Story
Dog name: Suzanne Age: 2 Gender: Female Breed: Pitbull mix Weight: 53 lbs Crate trained: Yes Potty trained: Yes Dog friendly: Slow intros Cat friendly: Unknown Kid friendly: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative Microchipped: Yes Energy level: Medium Location: Fostered in Highland Park, Illinois. No out of state applicants, please. Let me be dead instead. This is Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren’s “after” post. The one where we show you how happy and healthy she looks since we rescued her. A lucky dog who escaped a euthanasia deadline, and is now grateful, and loving life. Nailed it. As you can see by her face…Suzanne fucking hates us. She’d rather be dead instead. Since joining DHD, Suzanne spends her days crafting escape plans, and mass producing homemade shivs…which she strategically stashes throughout her foster home. Suzanne is just biding time until her master escape plan “shank a DHD bitch” can be executed or she gets adopted. By applying to adopt, you can save a DHD volunteer from being shanked, and you can get Suzanne out of this hellish rescue. Suzanne is a well rounded dog that is potty trained, crate trained, dog friendly, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. But wait…there’s more! Her adoption fee includes her HBTH “eat a bag of dicks” collar, a leash, harness, orange prison jumpsuit, and a never been done before, shiv scavenger hunt! You’ll have 45 seconds on the clock to find as many of the Suzanne hidden shivs as you can. The more shivs you find, the more shivs you take home! https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DHDN/Dog

Story
Dog Name: Carl Age: 1-2 years Gender: Male Breed: Pit mix Weight: 68lbs Crate trained: Yes Potty trained: Yes Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Unknown Kid friendly: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative Microchipped: Yes Energy level: Higher level Location: Carl is being fostered in Palatine, IL. No out of state applicants, please. Special Needs: Carl has diabetes insipidus. He’s on a daily medication that helps to keep him drinking and urinating normally. Since being diagnosed and starting meds, Carl is accident free and happy as can be. This is a lifelong medication that is easy to get refilled at the vet when needed. Carl is a young, sweet boy who doesn’t understand personal space. He is immediately comfortable enough to hop right into your lap and force you to pet him. If you stop petting him, he will nudge you as a reminder that you’re supposed to be petting him. Carl walks well on leash and is so gentle and sweet when meeting new people. He is not dog reactive, even when other dogs are barking at him. He’s good in his crate and has a great routine and knows when it’s his time to go into the crate. He’s a young boy so he does need some exercise but he absolutely loves playing fetch and will bring a ball back to you over and over again to keep playing. Once he’s gotten some energy out, he loves to cuddle and take naps with his people. He’s incredibly smart and highly treat motivated so you can teach him almost anything. Overall, he’s a really good dog that would do well in many homes. If you're interested in meeting Carl, please fill out an application at the link below. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DHDN/Dog

Story
Bailey Age: 2 years Gender: Female Breed: Mastiff mix Weight: 100lbs Crate trained: Yes Potty trained: Yes Dog friendly: No Cat friendly: Yes Kid friendly: Unknown Vaccinated: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative Microchipped: Yes Energy level: Medium, can and will find things she can destroy if not watched or exercised regularly. Location: Fostered in Chicago, Illinois. No out of state applicants, please. Bailey came to us as a skinny, terrified, stray dog that would have likely been euthanized at animal control. Her finder spent days gaining her trust to get her off the streets, and offered to foster her. Bailey has blossomed since first being found. She loves to be outside. Very protective of her people. Loves to roll in the grass. Sweetie pie. Loves to eat. Enjoys stealing wet cat food. Not a fan of other dogs. Still working on her walking calm when others are too close for her comfort but she’s a protective breed and watches over her foster mom. She doesn’t care for bike riders. Bailey is a sweetie pie that thinks she's a small lap dog. She's happy just to be with you. She loves long walks and playing outside but if you just want to stay inside and watch a movie she's content to put her big head on your lap and watch the movie with you. Bailey would do best in a quiet home with adults only. If you’re interested in meeting Bailey, please fill out an application at the link below. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DHDN/Dog

Dog Name: Roo  Age: 5-7years old  Gender: M  Breed: Pibble  Weight: 50lbs  Crate trained: yes, he throws a fit at first but will settle down after a few minutes and with frozen kong. Potty trained: Due to separation anxiety, he is not fully potty trained. As long as he is with his person he will not have an accident. We are working on the S.A. Roo would benefit from a family that is home often and has a consistent schedule.  Dog friendly: yes Cat friendly:yes (assumingly) Kid friendly: yes (assumingly) Vaccinated: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative Microchipped: Yes Energy level: he's able to chill on the couch with you all day but also down for a hike or run.  Location: Fostered in (Berwyn), Illinois. No out of state applicants, please. Roo is a velcro dog through and through. He is up for just about anything. He loves a good walk but loves even more laying on the bed and watching a movie with you and your family. He's very friendly and curious. He would do well in a home with another dog. Roo just wants a home where he can consistently be around his people and snuggle as close as possible to them. Roo struggles with separation anxiety. It has improved over the last couple of months once he learned our routine more, but it is still a work in progress. He listens incredibly well, and will never leave your side, but he will need a family who has dog experience and patience.  If you're interested in meeting Roo, please fill out an application at the link below. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DHDN/Dog
