Story
This is Jack, and he deserves a home where he can truly thrive. I've had Jack since he was a puppy, and making the decision to find him a new home has been one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. Unfortunately, my life has changed significantly over the past few years. We now live in a one-bedroom apartment, and my work schedule has become increasingly demanding. As much as I love him, I know I'm no longer able to give him the time, attention, and lifestyle he deserves. Jack is an incredibly sweet, laid-back, and loyal companion. He's 11 years old, well past the puppy stage, and is happiest simply being with his people—whether that's relaxing on the couch, going for a walk, or just hanging out nearby. He absolutely loves people and enjoys meeting new friends. He is not used to other dogs or cats, but loves people!

Story
My name is Mango and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m still a puppy – I’ll turn 1 y.o. in December. I came to my foster home here in Quincy, IL, from a commercial breeding facility where I was born. I’m a cautious, curious and goofy little girl. My Shiba spunk is starting to emerge – I get impatient when there’s something between me and what I want and have been known to hop right over one of the other dogs if they’re in my way. I’m a smart girl and learn quickly. Like most Shiba puppies, I love to chew EVERYTHING - sometimes things that aren’t meant for chewing (like furniture and pencils). I’m almost completely potty trained – only an occasional accident if I don’t tell foster mom that I need to go outside. I love to play with the other dogs here in my foster home and go for leash walks in the neighborhood with the other dogs. I’m still learning good leash manners (sometimes I zig-zag and get the leashes all tangled up), but foster mom says I’ll be a pro with more practice. I’m shy at first with other dogs. I haven’t met any cats, but I like to chase birds and squirrels in the yard, so I’m not sure if I’d be a good match for small pets. I haven’t met any little kids, but there are teenagers here in my foster home and I like them. I’m timid around people I don’t know – especially men or groups - I’ll usually hide. I go to foster mom or to the teenage girl when I want attention and affection. My perfect forever family will have patience and experience with puppy antics and shy/fearful dogs. I’d love to have a nice resident dog to play with and to help me continue to learn and blossom. My forever family should be careful to guard against escapes, since I’m good at squirting out open doors. I’d love to have a securely fenced yard to play in and to continue my training so I grow up to be a well-mannered and confident adult. I’m a healthy girl – spayed, vaccinated, and I weigh 18 lbs. If you live in the Midwest and want a pretty girl like me to join your family, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home environment so they can tell if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Travey and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m just over 1 y.o. and I weigh 23 lbs. I came to my foster home in the Chicago area after I got loose, had a bit of a mis-adventure, and ended up in doggie jail. I haven't been at my foster home long, so I'm still adjusting. I love getting love and attention from foster mom and my favorite place to sleep is in bed with her! I'm super smart, eager to please, and learn quickly. I'm potty trained and do well in my crate when foster mom goes out (though I've been known to deploy the "Shiba scream" if I'm left all alone). I love treats, which helps motivate me to learn. I have mastered leash walking. I might pull if I see a squirrel or bunny that I want to chase (I've definitely got a high prey drive). I've also learned how to jump over gates that are supposed to contain me, so my forever family will need to be careful to prevent escapes. I'm a curious girl, but new things are hard for me. I'm suspicious of new people and will bark at them. I can be reactive to other dogs when I'm out on walks. I'll be fiercely loyal to my family and will need humans who have time to focus on me too. Because I did not have a great upbringing, I'll need a patient forever family who will commit to training and teaching me how to become a well-adjusted adult. My ideal forever home will be one with a securely fenced yard - no shared walls, since I can be vocal. I'd do best in a home with no cats or small pets, since I've got a high prey drive. I get along with most of the other dogs in my foster home, but can be dog-selective, so a laid-back, easy going dog friend would be best. Foster mom thinks I'd do okay with older children once I get to know them, but I'm not a good match for really little kids. I'm a healthy girl - spayed and vaccinated. I had giardia when I came into foster care, but am recovering nicely and feeling fine. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a best friend and diamond in the rough, then I'm your girl. Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you to make sure we'll be a good match. Once approved, they'll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
My name is Rumor and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m 3 ½ years old and I weigh 20 lbs. I came to my foster home here in Chicago from a breeding facility where I was born. I’m still getting used to living in a home, so I can be skittish and shy, especially with people I don’t know or around sudden movements or noises. But as I relax, my silly side is coming out and I’ve started to chase my tail and to hoard toys in my crate. I’ve learned the routine here pretty quickly. I am potty trained and stay in my crate when foster mom leaves the house. I like eating meals in my crate too. I let foster mom pet me now that I trust her. There are other dogs here in my foster home and they have helped me to feel safe, like when we’re out walking in the neighborhood. Busy streets and loud cars scare me, but walking close to the other dogs helps. I’m very interested in chasing squirrels, so foster mom thinks that I’m probably not a good match for cats or small pets unless they are dog-savvy. My perfect forever home will understand shy/fearful dogs and have at least one other friendly dog to help me continue to adjust. I’m not a good match for little kids. I’m a healthy girl – spayed and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet, shy, pretty girl like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn about you and your home environment so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
Meet Maui! 🐾💙 Maui is a 6-week-old Chihuahua puppy who may be tiny, but he already has a big personality and an even bigger story! Maui didn't have the easiest start in life. He was born in a car in the middle of summer, during some incredibly hot weather. His family knew they needed help and made the difficult decision to reach out for assistance. Thankfully, the rescue stepped up, along with an amazing foster family, who gave Maui, his mom, and his siblings the safe and loving environment they needed to grow and thrive. And thrive he has! ❤️ Maui is doing amazing and is now ready to start looking for the forever family who will continue giving him the love and care he deserves. 🐶 Meet Maui Maui is the most outgoing of his siblings! He is curious, confident, and ready to see what the world has to offer. This little guy loves being involved and is always ready for the next adventure. He is growing, learning, playing, and discovering the world around him with his adorable puppy personality already shining through. Maui is currently living with his mom and siblings, where he has had the opportunity to learn important puppy social skills. He is good with other dogs and has also been around a cat. At only 6 weeks old, Maui is not potty trained yet. His forever family should be prepared for all the normal puppy stages—including potty training, chewing, learning boundaries, and lots of supervision. 🏡 Maui's Forever Home Maui could make a wonderful companion for someone looking to add a tiny bundle of puppy love to their family. His adopter should understand that a young puppy requires time, patience, consistency, and lots of care. Maui will need someone willing to continue helping him learn and grow into the wonderful adult dog he is meant to become. Whether he finds a family with children, another dog, or someone looking for a little companion to spoil, Maui has so much potential. 💕 A Little Bittersweet His foster family has loved watching Maui grow and thrive, and while they are going to miss him terribly, they know it's time for this little guy to start the next chapter of his life. After everything Maui has overcome already, he deserves a forever family who will cherish him for many years to come. 📅 Adoption Information Maui will be ready to leave his foster home on September 5th. We are happy to schedule meet-and-greets in advance, with his official pickup/adoption date around September 5th. 💙 Why Maui? Maui's beginning may not have been perfect, but his future can be. He is a tiny survivor who has been surrounded by love, cared for by his foster family, and given the chance to grow up safe and happy with his mom and siblings. And with his outgoing, confident personality, we have a feeling Maui is going to bring a whole lot of fun and love wherever he goes! Now he's ready to find the family who will love him forever. If you're looking for an adorable little Chihuahua with an outgoing personality, a big adventurous spirit, and a whole lifetime of love ahead of him, Maui may be your boy! 🐾💙 Apply to adopt at: https://www.woofanimalrescue.org/adopt This dog is currently located in Chicago's southwest suburbs and can be seen by appointment once an adoption application is completed and approved by the rescue. Please note that we cannot hold dogs for any reason. Please only apply if you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into your home within five days of approval.
