Story
Bear has been an amazing dog for us but doesn’t get along with our new smaller dog. My wife and I are looking to start a family soon and have decided it’s not safe to have Bear in our home. He is anxious and food aggressive but in a home without other dogs or children he would thrive. He loves to cuddle on the couch or bed and is a great exercise partner. He has his quirks but overall Bear is a great and fun loving dog that deserves a happiness in the right home.

Story
Pepper is a beautifully colored 1–2yr‑old pittie (possibly a mix) with the softest coat and the most adorable ears. At about 40 pounds, she’s the perfect compact size for snuggling, which happens to be her absolute favorite activity. If there’s a blanket nearby, Pepper will be under it in seconds. She has a couple of joyful zoomie sessions each day and will hop around the yard like a happy little bunny. She loves toys, enjoys chewing on bones, and is very treat‑motivated. Pepper adores humans and bonds deeply with her people. She’s loyal, affectionate, and happiest when she’s close. She does not, however, get along with other dogs, so she’ll thrive best as the only pet in the home unless her future family is committed to proper training and management. Her current family loves her dearly for her devotion and sweetness, but they have other family dogs who visit often, making it difficult for Pepper to relax. She deserves a home where she can feel completely safe, loved and stress-free.

Story
I work at a veterinary hospital. Pearl was brought in as a stray that was almost hit by a car. She is chipped however chip wasn’t registered. We took the necessary steps to reunite her with her owner but was not claimed. I brought her to the Dupage animal control to formally adopt, spay, /re-chipped in late September 2025. Based on her exam shes between 3-5 years old. She is UTD on all vaccinations. REASON FOR REHOMING: My son has a Golden retriever and lives in an in-law arrangement connected to our home. Our family gave Pearl some time to acclimate in our space before a formal introduction w/ Retriever. We since have been able to have them cohabitate in our home.. but Pearl continues to be dog reactive and O protective w/ our son & Retriever. Our son shares a yard and exit door with us there is no way of knowing exactly when he or retriever are coming or going. Pearl does like some small dogs. I’d be glad to dog sit when able.. she is a barker around other dogs.

Story
My name is Brad and I’m looking for my forever home. I came to my foster home here in Machesney Park, IL, from a commercial breeding facility where I lived my whole life, making puppies. I’m a gentle, easy-going 9-y.o. guy. I was pretty scared at first, and I’m still cautious, but my curiosity and affectionate side still wins. Foster dad says he’s proud of me – on the very first day that I arrived, I got brave enough to approach him to say hello. I just looked up into his eyes and I think he melted! Aw, shucks. Yeah, I’m a good boy – I don’t get into trouble or have accidents. There are so many new things I’ve never experienced here, and noises and commotion can still spook me. But I like to follow the humans around and watch what they’re doing. And when foster dad sits quietly in his recliner, I’ll boop his hand to ask for some scritches. And I’ll look up into his eyes to make sure he knows how thankful I am. There are other dogs here and I like them. I’m also good with the human kids. If the 3-year-old gets too loud, I just find a quiet spot away from the racket. The 13-year-old is cool. I like to sit by her when she’s sitting at her desk. My perfect forever home would be a calm and laid-back family. I’ll need a securely fenced yard since I’m still learning how to walk on a leash. If you have other nice dogs, that’s fine. I’ve never met a cat, but foster dad thinks I’d be fine with a dog-savvy kitty. You’ll need to be careful to prevent escapes, since like many Shibas, I’m interested to explore what’s on the other side of an open door. I’m healthy – neutered and vaccinated and weigh 34 lbs. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a sweet, calm, all-around nice dog to melt your heart and be your very best friend, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you to make sure we’ll be a good match. Then once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet!

Story
My name is Sammy and I’m looking for my forever home! I am a curious, smart, goofy, playful and sweet boy, around 7 y.o. I live in Munster, IN, with my foster family, but for most of my life I lived at a commercial breeding facility where I helped make puppies. Living in a home with humans is so much nicer! At first, I was shy and skittish around people, but then I learned that humans give belly rubs! OMG - what could be better? So now I follow them around everywhere. I haven't met any little humans so far, so I don't know how I'd react to them. There are other dogs here and I love to play with them. Foster dad says I'm a little bit bossy with them sometimes, but we get along well. I like being outside in the fenced yard, especially during bunny season! I've caught 3 of them so far and always on the lookout for more. Yep. I got the Shiba prey-drive gene! Because of this, I'm probably not a good match for a home with cats or other small pets. I’m learning so many new things here, like how to walk on a leash. Foster dad says I'll be a pro with a bit more practice. I’m potty trained and a good boy in the house. I will happily entertain myself with my favorite squeaky ball. I get a bit anxious if left all by myself, but if there are other dogs around, that helps a lot. My perfect forever home will have experience preventing escapes from open doors, gates or fences, since I'm always looking to chase more bunnies. I'd love to have a securely fenced yard and another dog to keep me company, but those are not required. I weigh 30 lbs and a healthy boy - neutered and vaccinated. The vet says that my kneecaps are a little bit loose. They don't bother me and the vet does not feel that I need surgery at this time. If you live in the Midwest and want a handsome fella like me to give belly rubs to, visit www.savingshibas.com for more info and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you so they can make sure we'll be a good match. Once approved, they'll introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet!
