Meet Apollo – Your Future Best Friend! Apollo is a 4 year old American Bulldog mix, and he’s ready to find his forever family! This sweet and motivated boy was found as a stray in our community, and unfortunately, his previous owners never came to reclaim him. But now he’s safe, neutered, and up to date on all his vaccines, and he’s ready to start his new chapter! Apollo is an absolute star—he aces all of his commands, rocks the agility course, loves playing with his toys, and is house broken! He’s got the perfect balance of energy and smarts, and he’s looking for a family who can help him continue to thrive. What Apollo Needs: Multiple meet-and-greets to build trust with new people (he’s a bit wary of strangers at first) A dog-selective home—proper dog introductions are a must, females preferred. A home with kids over 16 An experienced owner who can continue his training and let him blossom into the ham we know he is once he’s comfortable If you’re looking for a smart, playful, and loyal companion, Apollo might just be the perfect match for you! Please fill out an adoption application online, and our team will get in touch within 1-3 business days.

Story
✨ Meet Reba ✨ There was a time when Reba was clearly someone’s beloved companion — you can see it in her gentle eyes and sweet nature. Somehow, she ended up sitting quietly in a municipal shelter, overlooked and never even given the chance to be shown. We truly can’t imagine why, because this girl is pure love. At 8 years old and about 40 lbs, Reba is the perfect medium-sized companion. She has a calm, gentle temperament, is wonderful with other dogs, housebroken, and walks beautifully on a leash. Basically… she’s everything you could hope for in a best friend. Reba doesn’t need much — just a soft place to land and someone to love her again. She deserves a second chance at the happy life she’s been waiting so patiently for. ❤️ Ready to make Reba part of your family? Submit an application today at almosthomeli.org.

Story
Meet Mac – A Loyal Guardian Looking for the Right Home Mac is a 6-month-old Dogo Argentino with a big heart and an even bigger future. He currently weighs 65 pounds and is expected to grow to at least 100 pounds, potentially reaching 140 pounds at maturity. The Dogo Argentino is a powerful, purpose-bred working dog developed from the Córdoba Fighting Dog, Great Dane, Spanish Mastiff, Pyrenean Mastiff, and Dogue de Bordeaux. This is not a breed for first-time dog owners. Dogos were bred to protect humans and hunt wild boar, and they require confident, experienced handling. Mac is seeking an adult-only home with proven experience in protection or guardian breeds, such as Mastiffs, Boerboels, Cane Corsos, or similar. Despite their strength, Dogos are known for being: • Extremely loyal • Loving and people-oriented • Intelligent and stubborn • High prey drive Mac is currently at a critical developmental stage and will need a handler who provides clear structure, strict boundaries, and consistency. For this reason, Mac must be enrolled in a structured training program prior to adoption. What Mac Already Knows: • Crate trained • Housebroken • Living successfully with 7 other dogs • Foster is actively working on: • Basket muzzle training • Leash walking • Basic obedience (place, sit, stay) Mac is not particularly food motivated and is currently being hand-fed to help build engagement and motivation during training. His adopter must be willing to continue this work and invest time into his development. While Mac is currently social with other dogs, it is a breed trait for Dogos to sometimes become dog-selective as they mature. If placed with another dog, he would do best with a female companion. Mac is an incredible dog who will thrive with the right experienced home—one that understands the responsibility and reward of owning a powerful guardian breed. 👉 Fill out an application today to meet Mac:

Story
Meet Tommy & Baby a bonded pair looking for their fresh start together. These two were part of a local rescue our team facilitated in Queens. Both are about 3 years young, good with other dogs, and would do best in an adult-only home for now. Because of their past, Tommy and Baby need a super special adopter. We believe they were previously abused and mostly lived outside, so they require a home with significant breed experience and rescue-dog savvy. They will need continued training, exposure, and structure as they settle into their new lives. Tommy is a handsome, confident boy, while Baby is more timid around people and needs time to warm up — but she blossoms with patience and understanding. Together, they bring out the best in each other, which is why we are committed to placing them as a bonded pair. If you are interested in meeting Tommy & Baby, please submit an adoption application directly on our website. Note: we will not process applications without proper breed and overall experience.

Story
Chai is a 4 month old Belgian Malinois mix. She's the perfect mix of spice, warmth, and sweetness. She has lots of energy, just what you’d expect for her age and breed and she absolutely thrives on activity, training, and mental stimulation. She is doing wonderfully in her foster home and is being crate trained and working on being housebroken. Due to her breed, we require adopters to have prior breed experience and be committed to providing the structure, exercise, and training that a Belgian Malinois mix needs to thrive. If you're interested, please apply at almosthomeli.org

Story
Meet Lassy! Lassy’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. This 4 year old neutered male mixed breed was rescued from the streets of China by the Soi Dog Foundation after being found hit by a car with a pelvic fracture. Thanks to their dedicated care, he was fully rehabilitated and is now medically cleared and ready for a fresh start. Lassy has a sweet, warm disposition, is dog- and cat-friendly, does wonderfully in his kennel without accidents, and walks nicely on a leash. This brave boy has overcome so much — now all he needs is a family to call his own. Who would like to give Lassy his first real, loving home?
