Story
✨ Meet Reba ✨ There was a time when Reba was clearly someone’s beloved companion — you can see it in her gentle eyes and sweet nature. Somehow, she ended up sitting quietly in a municipal shelter, overlooked and never even given the chance to be shown. We truly can’t imagine why, because this girl is pure love. At 8 years old and about 40 lbs, Reba is the perfect medium-sized companion. She has a calm, gentle temperament, is wonderful with other dogs, housebroken, and walks beautifully on a leash. Basically… she’s everything you could hope for in a best friend. Reba doesn’t need much — just a soft place to land and someone to love her again. She deserves a second chance at the happy life she’s been waiting so patiently for. ❤️ Ready to make Reba part of your family? Submit an application today at almosthomeli.org.

Story
Meet Apollo – Your Future Best Friend! Apollo is a 4 year old American Bulldog mix, and he’s ready to find his forever family! This sweet and motivated boy was found as a stray in our community, and unfortunately, his previous owners never came to reclaim him. But now he’s safe, neutered, and up to date on all his vaccines, and he’s ready to start his new chapter! Apollo is an absolute star—he aces all of his commands, rocks the agility course, loves playing with his toys, and is house broken! He’s got the perfect balance of energy and smarts, and he’s looking for a family who can help him continue to thrive. What Apollo Needs: Multiple meet-and-greets to build trust with new people (he’s a bit wary of strangers at first) A dog-selective home—proper dog introductions are a must, females preferred. A home with kids over 16 An experienced owner who can continue his training and let him blossom into the ham we know he is once he’s comfortable If you’re looking for a smart, playful, and loyal companion, Apollo might just be the perfect match for you! Please fill out an adoption application online, and our team will get in touch within 1-3 business days.

Story
Meet Mackerel, aka Mac, aka Big Mac Daddy, aka Mac Truck A dog with this many names deserves one more… home. Mac is a loving purebred Dogo Argentino, about 95 pounds of loyalty, personality, and main character energy. He’s the total package: • Crate trained • Housebroken • Excellent on leash • Absolute pro in the car So why is he still waiting? Not for lack of trying. He’s had a few almost-homes that just didn’t work out, and he’s ready for something real this time. Mac is currently in a great foster home, but it’s not forever, and he deserves his forever people. His ideal match is someone dog-savvy, preferably with guardian or large breed experience. If you’re committed to learning the breed, that works too. He’d do best in a home with responsible teens or adults only. Mac isn’t just a good dog, he’s a great one. He just needs the right person to see it. Could that be you?

Story
Meet Spiddle! This handsome boy was rescued from a municipal shelter where he was at risk of euthanasia and is now ready for a second chance. Spiddle walks nicely on a leash and would thrive with a family willing to continue his basic obedience training. Because he’s still working on his manners, a home with children 10 and older is preferred. Spiddle has done well with other dogs, though he has not yet been tested with cats. If you’re interested in meeting this lovable boy, please stop by during our operational hours or submit an application on our website: almosthomeli.org.

Story
Meet Tommy & Baby — a bonded pair searching for their fresh start together. ❤️ These two were part of a local rescue our team facilitated in Queens and have come such a long way since arriving in our care. Both are about 3 years young, good with other dogs, and great with children of all ages. Tommy and Baby are super fun, active dogs who also love to cuddle and be close to their people. They both have silly, playful personalities and truly enjoy life now that they feel safe and loved. Tommy is a handsome, confident boy who loves attention and adventure. Baby has made incredible progress and is no longer nervous or fearful. She has blossomed into a happy, playful girl who loves treats, affection, and showing off her goofy side. Because of their past, Tommy and Baby still need a very special adopter. We believe they were previously abused and mostly lived outside, so they will need continued structure, guidance, and understanding as they continue adjusting to life in a home environment. We are looking for someone with strong breed and rescue-dog experience who can provide them with the stability and leadership they deserve. These two truly bring out the best in each other, which is why we are committed to placing them together as a bonded pair. If you are interested in meeting Tommy & Baby, please submit an adoption application directly through our website. Please note: applications without proper breed and overall dog experience will not be considered.

Story
Meet Skye — a beautiful, gentle soul with so much love to give. While she may take a little time to warm up to new people and environments, once she feels safe, Skye becomes the ultimate cuddle buddy. She loves being close to her humans and makes the perfect office companion, happily curling up at your feet while you work. At just 4 months old, Skye is already doing wonderfully with crate training and making great progress with housebreaking. She’s looking for a patient, understanding family who can continue building her confidence and helping her heal at her own pace. Skye would thrive in a calm, loving home and may do best with older children who can respect her gentle nature and give her the time she needs to feel comfortable. In return, she’ll reward you with endless affection, loyalty, and snuggles.
