Needs special attention, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Ozzy was adopted from a breeder in Pennsylvania in March 2021 and is a pure bread Bernese Mountain Dog weighing 160lbs. While he is very loving and caring to our immediate family, he is overly protective and is frequently aggressive with strangers. Recently, our children left our front door open and Ozzy bit a delivery person. Ozzy has received a two month extensive training from Canine One, but still breaks commands and can’t be trusted with strangers. It really breaks our heart to place him up for adoption as he is so sweet and loving to our family. However, we just have too many visitors to the house to keep Ozzy. He really needs a home with restricted space and limited visitors, and with an owner who knows how to handle an aggressive dog. So far, he has only shown aggression to men, and seems sweet with women and children. Please reach out if you have an interest in meeting Ozzy - and we realize he is a special case and is only for a very select home.

Border Collie Collie

Westport, CT
Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Details
Needs special attention, Needs experienced adopter, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Riley, born in January or February of 2015 is a tricolor, smooth coat, collie/border collie mix with some brindle markings on his legs. He has experienced 2 failed adoptions. He was adopted from us when he was about 6 months old and was returned to us 3 years later when the male member of the adoptive family, who had Alzheimer’s, became abusive toward him. In time he began developing his self-confidence again and began to lose his fear of men. Even though he was still somewhat leery of men he didn’t know, he would actually seek attention from men with whom he was familiar. He got along well with the dogs in his foster home but he behaved aggressively toward any new foster dog that periodically come in. He is not good with cats as he showed aggression toward the clinic cat at our vet’s office. Riley was adopted a second time, but after a year of trying different techniques to manage Riley’s difficult behaviors his second adopter felt that she could no longer handle him and once again Riley was returned to us. He left us weighing 55 pounds and returned, markedly overweight, at 78 pounds. He is now back to a healthy weight. Riley has had extensive training. He is quite smart and learns quickly. He rides well in a car and walks well on a leash unless he meets a dog while out on the walk, in which case he will pull and act aggressively. Riley is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is being kept on heartworm and flea and tick prevention to maintain his good health. Riley is located in Arkansas. His adoption donation is $405 which includes the $155 transport fee. If you would like to adopt Riley, the first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in

Story
Beautiful girl with the soulful eyes...Kayla is a doll but her existence so far has been chaotic. She is a super sweet girl that has been bounced around in her 4 short years. We can't figure out why! Kayla weighs 62 lbs. She is doing great in her foster home with all of the other fosters and resident dogs--she has no issues at all! She is good with everyone and has attached herself to one special person, just as most heelers do. She is not going to be the dog that pummels your visitors with kisses. She has to know a person to give affection She is excellent with the 4 yr old grandsons in the family, men and women. She is housebroken, leash trained and loves to ride. Kayla is looking for her special person. She is extremely loyal!!!She doesn’t need everyone, just her very own person, could that be you? If you want Kayla to come home....please copy and paste this link to your web browser to fill out our online application, https://www.jotform.com/form/200215767055148 . Kayla is up to date on shots, HW negative, spayed and microchipped, included in her $350 adoption fee. Kayla is in South Carolina.

Story
Available for adoption through Bright Hope Animal Rescue. PLEASE SHARE!! TOOT •Male-neutered •Terrier mix •5 years old •18 pounds •good with mild mannered female dogs •no kids-he’s a little spicy 🥴 •housetrained-no, but he wears his little man band like a champion Toot has been with us for several years. We rescued him along with 12 other dogs from a filthy mud pit. He’s not perfect and for that reason he’s still here 😢 He’s 95% sweet and 5% spicy and he wears his little diaper. He is SUPER affectionate. Would do best in an adult only home with no other dogs or mild mannered female dogs. He doesn’t need walks if he has a fence. He’s content just being with his people. Anything outside of that makes him uneasy. He likes to stay in the closet or laundry basket if it storms. Sometimes, very rarely, he gets in a bad mood and you just have to redirect his attention and he completely forgets about his bad mood. Doesn’t like strangers coming into the house. So if you want an excuse to not have company, then you must adopt Toot 😜 Seriously though, he doesn’t like visitors, but can just be put in a different room if you have company. He will be their friend in 5 minutes though with a little turkey. Toot just need somebody to let him be their buddy, hang out at home, not force him into uncomfortable situations….he really is so sweet and just wants his own person to accept him for who he is. He has good house manners, doesn’t chew. He can also be crated if needed. We haven’t crated him i a long while, but he always did well when we did. Some things to keep in mind when considering adopting from us. •email brighthopeadoptions@gmail.com for an application. You will receive an auto reply with a link to our online application •if we feel that it could potentially be a good fit for both the family and the dog, you will hear from us within 72 hours. If you don’t hear from us, it doesn’t mean that we don’t like the application, it’s just simply not a good fit for that particular dog. If you note that you are open to other dogs, we will keep your application on file and contact you if we have any other dogs now or in the future that may be a better match. •we do adoptions in the DC, NY, and New England areas. We have support systems in these areas, so all of our dogs need to go within a reasonable distance to these areas. Sorry, no MA adoptions. We don’t hold the appropriate license to place there. We will transport them to you. •all of our dogs are fostered in East TN. We DO NOT do local adoptions. The shelters here are full of little dogs just like the ones we have. Our dogs are safe with us until they find a home. The ones in the shelter ARE NOT safe. We refer anyone local to a local shelter to adopt. •we don’t have cookie cutter perfect little dogs. They all carry a little of their past with them in some way. We are BRUTALLY honest about their issues. Both medical and behavioral. We know our dogs inside and out. And we have to be 1000% confident with the adoption. We want this to be a happy time for both the family and the dog. If we don’t get the warm and fuzzies with the adoption, we don’t do it. -I’m not great at monitoring comments, so please email the address above if you are interested in adopting. ~Thank you for your understanding with our process. It’s what we have always done and it works for us and we are GREAT matchmakers 😍😍
