Story

Chicken is a red heeler chihuahua mix with a huge personality and an even bigger love for fetch and I mean she loves it. She’s super affectionate and adores being close to her people, but she also appreciates her own space and downtime and settles well when it’s time to relax. Chicken does great with other dogs and is wonderful with kids, making her an overall amazing family dog. She’s never been around cats, so we’re not sure how she’d do in a home with them. She’s also a fantastic adventure buddy: she loves hiking, has great recall, and is the kind of dog that makes being outdoors even more fun. We recently welcomed a newborn baby, and as much as we love Chicken, we’re not able to give her the quality time, attention, and daily play she deserves right now so we’re looking for a loving home where she can get the time and companionship she needs. We are unsure how he does with cats.This decision is incredibly difficult, and Jax has done nothing wrong. Our family has a 1-year-old daughter, and my wife is currently battling cancer. With everything going on, we simply don’t have the time to give Jax the attention, exercise, and care he deserves.We love Jax very much and want to find him a home where he can receive the time, love, stimulation, and companionship he deserves. I also have a fuzzy blanket, which I want you to know I take very seriously. And the toys? Plural. An embarrassment of toys. Somebody around here understands that a girl needs options.Meals arrive. On time. Every time. There is also a pail of water roughly the size of my ambitions. Five stars. I would dine here again, and in fact I will, later today.Genuinely lovely people. Very attentive. Extremely generous with the scratches. I have no complaints about the hospitality, and I`ve been paying close attention.So why am I looking to check out, you ask?I want a person.Not a visitor. Not a shift change. A person. Mine.I should tell you what happens when someone walks up to my kennel: my body starts wiggling before I`ve made a conscious decision about it. It`s automatic. The back half goes first and the rest of me follows. I`ve stopped trying to control it and I`d encourage you not to try either.MY QUALIFICATIONS:• Walking companion — I stay close. Not `tethered to your ankles` close, just `checking in, still here, glad it`s you` close.• Bench specialist — Give me the chance to sit next to you on a bench and I will take it every single time. This is my favorite thing. Possibly my whole personality.• Kisses — Large. Enthusiastic. Non-negotiable. Please prepare accordingly.• Dogs — Perfectly fine around them, thank you for asking. But I`m a people dog. That`s where my heart is.Look, I don`t want to be immodest, but people have used the word `cute.` I didn`t bring it up. They did. I just try my best and let the wrinkles do the rest.I`m hoping someone can make my stay here a short one. The bed is nice. The blanket is nice. The toys are nice. But none of it is a lap, and none of it is a bench, and none of it is you.I`m the best girl. I`m ready to check out whenever you are.
