Story
Shadow is a 6 year old English shepherd. He has been our beloved family pet for years but as he has gotten older he has had a harder and harder time getting along with the other pets and many animals on our farm. We have had to make a difficult decision to give him up because he is no longer getting along with them. Other than this issue, Shadow is very sweet, well trained, laid back inside and has no destructive tendencies. What he really needs is a home where there are preferably no other pets. Shadow can stay home by himself with no problems, he doesn't chew and is perfectly horse trained. He walks on leash very well, doesn't pull. He also knows basic commands: sit, stay, lay down, come, paw etc. He needs exercise but not an excessive amount and will be happy with a few walks a day. We really want him to have the best home possible and know that he is happy and well taken care of. We just want him to be happy with his new home.

Story
NAME: Mr. Breakfast BREED: Pit Bull/Mystery Mix BIRTHDAY: 2011 WEIGHT: 50lbs ADOPTION FEE: $200   When we saw Mr. Breakfast on Facebook, we were drawn to more than just his goofy name. The toothless grin, chewed-up ears, crusty cataract eyes... this is just our kind of guy. We asked for a cat and a dog test from the shelter, got the green light on both, and got Mr. Breakfast the heck out of South Carolina. &#226&#128&#139 In foster care, Mr. Breakfast has been an absolute gem. He ignores the cats, plays with (and gets chomped by) the dogs, and loves all the people who come to visit him. He has done very well with house training, is crate trained (although not a fan of the crate), and relatively quiet.  Mr. Breakfast uses his remaining molars to chew bones and toys, enjoys spending time in the fenced yard, and rides well in the car. We keep walks to a minimum because of his heartworm, but he does like to go for short jaunts to explore the neighborhood.  &#226&#128&#139 Mr. Breakfast will need a patient and dedicated adopter to help him live his best life: GOT will pay for heartworm treatments (we are doing slow-kill because of his age and heart issues, which is just Advantage Multi each month). What this guy really is looking for is someone who can be compassionate as he adjusts to life indoors, who doesn't mind doing a little extra laundry, and who can appreciate this wonderful dog because he deserves the whole world. If you can't adopt at this time, please consider sharing or donating to help us cover the cost of Mr. Breakfast's care!April 26, 2024, 12:04 am

NAME: Poppy BREED: Pit Bull Mix BIRTHDAY: 2023 WEIGHT: 50lbs ADOPTION FEE: $250   Poppy came to use from a small rural shelter in NC. We had pulled two lovely beagles from them and were happy to work with them again to save one more (even if "one more" was a half-grown pup!). Poppy was just like her videos- nervous but sweet and eager to make new dog friends. She's not sure about new people just yet (although she absolutely loves her foster mom and is a constant shadow/snuggle buddy), but just needs some time to get to know new human friends. She has shown no aggression towards strangers but may be a little rough for very small children. Poppy is house and crate trained, rides well in the car and needs work on leash walking. She lives with dogs of all sizes but would be fine as an only dog. Canine friends should be ready for a rough and pushy playmate, or ready to correct if they're only interested in a casual friendship. We do not recommend a home with cats. Fast approaching her terrible twos, Poppy will need basic training and structure to thrive in her new home. Of course, if you don't mind a little bit of chaos she is fine "as is"! Why take a chance on Poppy? There's nothing really extraordinary about her, she's just a regular brown pit bull. But that's why she needs your help- she has been overlooked for almost a year, and deserves more than a life in foster care. Please consider this good girl, or share if you are not able to adopt at this time.April 26, 2024, 12:04 am

Story
NAME: Chickie BREED: Beagle Mix BIRTHDAY: 2012 WEIGHT: 35lbs ADOPTION FEE: $200   Chickie came to us when her owners (thankfully) surrendered her to a VA shelter. They had been keeping her in a pen outside 24 hours a day, despite their claims that she has grass allergies. What really seemed to be happening to poor Chickie was a bad flea infestation, untreated, that left her with half of her hair missing. After months of treatment and medications, her skin is healthy but it appears her hair will never grow back. We give her Apoquel for itching but she is otherwise in good overall health.  &#226&#128&#139 Chickie has put her years of neglect behind her: she is happy in foster care and is a pretty easy girl. Although she is friendly and has never snapped or even growled at anyone, she is still a little head shy and would do best in a home without small children. She does very well with dogs of all sizes, but should be placed in a home without cats. What she really wants is a place where she can get a nice mix of her own space (with her favorite toy football to play with), and attention in the form of walks and snacks. Chickie is crate trained but will need a reminder course on house training. She would love a fenced yard to stretch her legs, sunbathe, and spend time with her forever family.April 26, 2024, 12:04 am

ADOPT ME ONLINE: https://ophrescue.org/dogs/8490Hello, my name is Dorian’s Princess but my foster mum calls me Sadie, I’m a 5 year old fun-loving family dog that LOVES water and playing ball. I am house trained, and I am perfect in the crate while my foster mum is at work. I know basic commands like sit and stay, I am working on my leash manners. I get along with the other dogs in my foster home. I should not be in a home with cats or other small animals. Other than the small animal thing I have done great in my foster home. If you are looking for a cuddle bug, ball chasing, hiking kinda girl? I am the one for you!!Apply for me today! I'll be with you in time for the fun summer months!!

Story
NAME: Hermione BREED: Cattle Dog Mix BIRTHDAY: Spring 2023 WEIGHT: 30lbs ADOPTION FEE: $300 &#226&#128&#139 This lovely young girl stole our hearts when we saw her in a dog-test video for another dog we were pulling from a southern shelter. Although she is much too young and active for our senior rescue, her sweet and submissive nature made her an easy addition to our pack. She has been a good friend to the dogs (and tolerant cats) here, but Hermione needs much more than we're able to provide. She is super smart and likes to keep busy, so she will need an active family who wants to have fun training a working pup. While she may not be a good candidate for herding sheep or cows, Hermione would likely excel at basic training, agility, and maybe even sniffer dog work. She is treat motivated but also just loves positive attention and affection.  &#226&#128&#139 Hermione has done great with house and crate training, is friendly with new dogs, friendly but maybe a little "much" for cats, loves meeting new people, rides well in the car, is relatively quiet, and is soft and kissy. Sadly she is heartworm positive, and will undergo treatment at the end of March. If she's adopted before then like we're hoping, her family will just have to bring her to our vet in Hanover; treatment costs are covered by the rescue. She is otherwise healthy and fully vetted. Please consider giving this fun-loving lady the family she has been missing so much! April 26, 2024, 12:04 am
