Woof, I’m Kumi. I am a 2 yo aussie/border collie mix and weigh 39 lbs. I am spayed, up to date on vaccinations, on preventatives and microchipped. I am also housebroken and crate trained.
I love feeling the wind in my fur during car rides, exploring new places (not too crowded) and running around open fields. My favorite toy is a flirt pole and I have the energy to play it forever if you don’t say “all done.” Lots of people said I’m very smart since I often look up at my hooman on walks, know a bunch of tricks and hand signals. Little do they know, I would do anything for food! If you leave food out, I’ll try to steal it when you’re not looking.
When meeting new people, I could be nervous (moving away or becoming reactive where I’ll lunge and bark) or very excited (jumping, which I’m not supposed to do). I’m usually afraid of males but when I warm up to them, I prefer the males over females. Playing with dogs is so fun but I need to be alpha! I’ll try to snap if another dog goes near my things or gets a greeting from my hoomans since I’m a resource guarder. When on leash, I’m unpredictable when I see another dog, just like people, but if they start barking at me, I will be triggered. Many things scare me which makes me reactive 😞 I’ll need my next hooman to be patient, continue my training and build my confidence. My next hooman must have experience with reactive doggos.
Like many Aussies, I’m very quirky and photogenic! Take a look at my Instagram (@looni.kumi). We can sing together when you go “awoooo” in the right pitch. I’ll communicate with you through staring contests, whining and weird noises. If I sense someone near the door (even if they are across the street and this doesn’t only apply to my home, it could be anywhere I’m staying at), I will be your protector and bark at them.
I’ll thrive in a quiet home in a more rural/suburb area where my hooman is home often or works from home. No fur siblings or small children please. A big fenced yard to run around is a must! My recall is 80% there but if i know you have food, I'll come running. Continuing training for my reactivity is very important! At home, I love to join you on the couch to cuddle and get lots of belly rubs and pets! I will also nudge toys on you, so we can play tug of war or fetch. During down time, I enjoy napping near your feet or in my “place” (elevated bed).
If you think you can provide a great home for Kumi, please contact the owner listed below. There is a $100 rehoming fee to assure good folks with good intentions. This fee will be donated to Australian Shepherds Furever for their assistance in placing Kumi.
