Meet Sheba!This gentle giant has quickly become a staff and volunteer favorite. A calm gentle loyal girl, she still finds some energy for zoomies and playtime and loves her walks. She came to us with her tiny housemate Wesley from a crowded county shelter when their elderly owner could no longer care for them- they like hanging out together but aren't bonded or stressed when separated so would be fine adopted or fostered together or separately. She has some arthritis we are treating but overall in pretty good shape for an old lady, on the thin side at 65lbs, and just had a dental cleaning and full senior work up. She might need some adjustment on housebreaking and wasn't able to be taken out often as her owner's health failed so will likely have some accidents and need some confinement and supervision as she gets into a routine. She looks like a wolf/polar bear hybrid, but she's probably more of a white shepherd/husky/malamute type since we don't see too many polar bears around;)Please submit a foster or adoption application, this sweet senior would love to get out of the shelter soon! UPDATE 8/26:Sadly, only 3 months after her first surgery, Sage had another flare of disc disease and was once again paralyzed. She had a second surgery and is out of pain, but her longterm mobility and continence is still very uncertain and her odds of a full recovery lower this time. She's a sweet tiny little frenchie girl, easy to carry and is cooperative for bladder expression and care, and will be fitted for a wheelchair soon once she's healed from her surgery. She's looking for a foster committed to her care while recovering, and an adopter who will love and care for her unconditionally, where or not she is able to walk. She has some skin allergies also being managed with diet... she got all the worst of the Frenchie genetics it seems like so many of these little ones bred and sold for profit with little thought of their longterm health needs. 5/26Meet Sage! This 2 1/2 year old frenchie was surrendered paralyzed in her hind end, but after emergency surgery she's made an amazing recovery and is up and walking. She's recovering in a loving foster home where she gets along well with the other dogs and cat, has regained continence and is housebroken and crate-trained. She should avoid going down too many stairs, jumping off furniture, and gaining too much weight to prevent additional back injuries from recurring in the future. Dice is a 6 year old Rat Terrier looking for a special committed foster or adopter. As a result of never being neutered, he ended up with a large perianal hernia that was left untreated for a while. The hernia entrapped his bladder, leaving him in urgent need of emergency surgery and unable to go to the bathroom. Everything is back in place now and he's out of pain, but unfortunately he seemed to have some permanent damage to his bladder causing him to leak small amounts of urine and need a belly band. He does go to the bathroom when taken out otherwise and knows to be housebroken but just doesn't have full control. He's a sweet gentle boy, a little timid at first with new people and doesn't seem to be happy about other dogs. We know he's a tough sell but we hope someone will be willing to roll the dice on our special needs little guy. Meet Eliza!Eliza is a 7 year old border collie/shiba mix looking for a special person to continue her training and socialization. Eliza has already spent 6 years of her life at the shelter. She is very fearful and distrustful of people until she bonds, but once she trusts is a fun high energy walking, hiking and jogging companion with her chosen buddy. She's fearful and avoids other dogs and is looking for a calmer experienced adult home with just one person she can bond to and protect. She loves to catch frisbees and play fetch and is a dog who needs a "job" to keep her mind busy and give her an appropriate outlet for her energy... no couch potatoes for this dog! Snickers is one of several mixed breeds who came to us from a local home who became overwhelmed with too many dogs... another important reminder of why spay/neuter is so important! In just a few years, 2 dogs and their offspring became 20+!!! The rest of his family members have been adopted, but as one of the most fearful Snickers is still waiting for his special person. Snickers is a 3 ½ yr old mixed breed hound at under 45lbs full grown. Snickers has already spent 2 ½ years at the shelter. He was terrified and had never been out of the house/yard or on a leash before coming to us, but has come a long way trusting his special people. He loves other dogs and would benefit from a quieter patient adult home with a compatible more confident dog to learn from and follow. He gets easily spooked on walks by too many people, trucks, loud noises, etc and tries to run back to the safety of his kennel. The busy shelter environment is especially difficult on fearful dogs and he would love to get into a quiet adult home soon. He's had some issues with chronic ear infections on and off and panics being handled by the vets without sleepy meds, but has been doing better on a special hypoallergenic diet and not having as many flares, and is otherwise healthy.
