Story
Hummus is a young Puggle mix with a sweet personality and a whole lot of potential. At about a year old, he's just beginning to discover how good life can be. When Hummus arrived, he was underweight at only 12 pounds and should be closer to 16 pounds. He's now getting the care he deserves and is on his way to reaching a healthy weight. He will also be fully vetted and neutered before adoption. Hummus can be a little shy when meeting new people, but give him a couple of days and his affectionate, gentle nature starts to shine through. It's clear that he didn't have many opportunities to learn about the world in his previous home, so he's looking for a patient adopter who can help build his confidence and teach him the things every young dog should know. He came into rescue with his mother and brother, but we believe Hummus would thrive with the opportunity to have his own person and receive plenty of one-on-one attention. With kindness, consistency, and a little guidance, this lovable boy is sure to blossom into a wonderful companion. If you're looking for a sweet young dog who is ready for a fresh start and eager to learn, Hummus may be the perfect match. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1. You must begin our adoption process by applying to adopt on clawsadopt.org. Please do NOT inquire via Petfinder, social media messengers or in our comments. We will only be looking at applications! 2. Please make sure you fill out our adoption application COMPLETELY. We may not be able to respond to applications that are not completely filled out with the proper information. Side note: on our applications, the more details you provide = the better. 3. We prefer applicants live within 60 miles of Closter, NJ. (Applicants who live farther away may still apply. However, please note we do prioritize local applications as we try our best to serve our local community first.) 4. Please respect our organization, our volunteers and our process. As a reminder, our organization is a nonprofit. We receive no money from the state. We have no paid employees! This is a polite reminder that we are doing our best to make the right decisions for the animals in our care. Thank you. Story
Sophie is a tiny 15 year old Maltese Poodle mix weighing just under 8 pounds. She is polite gentle and very sweet. Her favorite place is simply near her person. She coexists well with other small dogs and has an easygoing presence. Sophie came into rescue when her owner could no longer care for her. It took her a few days to adjust but she is settling in beautifully and showing her soft affectionate personality. Her eyesight is good and her hearing is still fairly strong for her age. She does have a heart murmur but is not on any medication at this time. She doesn't love being left alone so we are hoping to find her a calm quiet home where someone is around most of the time. Sophie is a lovely little soul looking for comfort companionship and a soft place to land for her golden years. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1. Story
Shi-Shi is a 5-year-old Shih Tzu Chihuahua mix who weighs about 12 pounds. She’s a sweet little dog who gets along well with other dogs and is currently being fully vetted with us. She was originally left with family and sadly never reclaimed, so she’s now looking for a stable, loving home where she can feel secure. Shi-Shi can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but she does warm up with time and patience. She has had puppies in the past and will be spayed so she won’t have to go through that again. Because we are still learning more about her, we think she would do best in a home with older children or adults only. Story
Chico is a tiny 15-year-old Chihuahua with a big heart packed into his 4-pound frame. He was deeply loved by his original family, who made the difficult and heartbreaking decision to surrender him when circumstances changed. This sweet little gentleman still enjoys the simple things in life: cozy naps, mealtimes, leisurely strolls outside, and following his favorite people from room to room. He'll even let you know when it's time to head outside for a potty break. Every now and then, he gets a little pep in his step that reminds everyone age is just a number. Like many senior dogs, Chico's hearing and vision aren't perfect, but he gets around quite well. He's used to being carried up and down stairs and currently eats prescription wet food due to a history of bladder stones. Chico can be startled by active dogs racing around him, but he's comfortable with other dogs once he's had time to settle in and get acquainted. Because of this, a quiet adult-only home would be his ideal match. If you're looking for a devoted companion who asks for little more than love, comfort, and a soft place to nap, Chico may be the perfect addition to your family. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1. Story
Patty is a 2-year-old Havanese mix with a playful spirit and a growing sense of confidence. She came to us with a very matted coat, so she’s sporting a short haircut for now—but once her soft curls grow back, she’ll be looking like a little superstar! Patty is settling into her foster home and learning new things every day. Her previous home loved her, but didn’t have much time for training, so she’s still working on some basics. She’s leash trained, nearly housebroken, and absolutely loves toys—especially stealing socks, so guard your laundry! She’d do best in a home with no kids, and we’re still getting to know how she feels about other dogs. We’ll continue to update as we learn more. Patty is current on vaccines, heartworm negative, and will be spayed soon. With a little time and patience, she’s going to make a wonderful companion. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1. You must begin our adoption process by applying to adopt on clawsadopt.org. Please do NOT inquire via Petfinder, social media messengers or in our comments.
