Story
Meet Chelsea, our adorable 2-year-old female Corgi, rescued from a puppy mill! She's looking for her forever home, and we couldn't be more excited to introduce her to you! Chelsea is current on her vaccines and microchipped but has not been spayed due to lack of surgery appointments. Personality: This sweet girl is full of love and affection. She absolutely adores other dogs and gets along well with them. Currently, she's being fostered with two other dogs and is thriving in their company. She's also living with three foster cats and is in the process of learning how to interact with them. With patience and guidance, she's making great progress! Training: Chelsea is currently learning to walk on a leash. She's a smart and eager learner, and with consistent training, she'll become a pro in no time!  Energy Level: This little one is a high-energy dog who loves to stay active. She'll thrive with an adopter who can provide her with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Whether it's long walks, playtime at the park, or engaging in fun activities, she'll be your perfect companion for all your adventures! Ideal Home: Chelsea will need a home with another dog and a completely fenced in yard is required (no electric fences). Having a furry friend will not only provide her with companionship but also help her continue her journey towards becoming the best dog she can be. Patience and Trust: It's important to note that Chelsea is still learning to trust people. She has had a difficult past, and it will take time for her to fully open up. Therefore, we are looking for a patient and understanding adopter who can provide her with the love, care, and patience she needs to feel safe and secure. Adoption Details: If you're interested in adopting Chelsea and giving her the loving home she deserves, please reach out to us at petresqinc.org to fill out an adoption application. We can't wait to hear from you and help make this adorable girl a part of your family!April 16, 2024, 8:49 pm

Story
Here's what the humans have to say about me: Remi came to the shelter with 4 litter mates. Three have been adopted, but Remi and his sister Gemini are still looking for homes. Remy is approximately 2 years old as of March 2024, He's especially sweet and gentle. He loves to play with other dogs. Originally fearful of the outside world, Remi now enjoys exploring and taking walks. When he looks up at you with his hound dog eyes, you can't help but feel the love! Remi will do best and gain confidence in a quieter home with a single person or adult only family. He needs a patient adopter who's willing to put in consistent work to help him become a fully confident canine companion. His perfect home comes with a fenced yard so he can run and play, and a family dedicated to giving him lots of love and plenty of exercise. Although he can be separated from his sister, Gemini, they are bonded. It would be great if Remi and his sister Gemini could be adopted together. Otherwise, ideally he’ll go to a family with another friendly, playful dog. After a DNA test, we were surprised to learn test that Remi is 50% Great Pyrenees, 14.3% Bluetick Coonhound,13.7% Chow Chow, 11.7% Labrador Retriever, and 10.3% German Shepherd. Remi is neutered, up to date on shots, microchipped, heartworm negative, and ready to go home! For more information about our special Remi, please email start2nj@yahoo.com

Story
Meet Gemini Gemini is a young adult who came to the shelter with 4 litter mates almost 2 years ago. Three have been adopted, but Gemini and her brother Remi are still looking for homes. She's always happy to greet you and extra sweet and gentle. She's patient and tolerant. She wags her tail and takes treats ever so delicately. You'll love looking into her soulful, loving eyes. Gemini has come a long way since arriving at the shelter. She's grown more confident and enjoys going for walks and exploring the world outside the shelter gate. She will still benefit from patient, steady training. Slow and steady is the way to go with Gemini, letting her take her time. Gemini will do best as an only dog in a quieter home with an active single person or adult only family. Her ideal home has a fenced yard so she can run and play, and a person dedicated to giving her exercise walks. It would be great if she could be adopted with her brother Remi! After a DNA test, we were surprised to learn test that Gemini is 50% Great Pyrenees, 14.3% Bluetick Coonhound,13.7% Chow Chow, 11.7% Labrador Retriever and 10.3% German Shepherd. She is spayed, up to date on shots, micro-chipped, heart warm negative and ready to go home! If you'd like to meet Gemini please email start2nj@yahoo.com

Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium)

Details

Story
Here's what the humans have to say about me: Chilli is a little spicy and lot of sweet! Approximately 4 years old as of March 2024, she’s a mixed-breed pooch with a lot of terrier in her genes. She has a stunning white coat with a few tan patches. She has big, expressive eyes. But her most beautiful quality is her loving personality. She wiggles like a puppy in anticipation of human attention. Chilli had been adopted in the past, but her people could no longer give her the time, attention, and care that she deserves. Accustomed to living with a family, Chilli is very sad at the shelter, where she spends too much time alone in her kennel. Always happy to be pet and take a walk, she craves the kind of human companionship she once knew. Chilli is a fairly high activity girl who gets excited, but once she's able to burn off some of her extra energy—playing in the yard or taking a nice long walk—she's the perfect lap dog. She's sweet, loving, and fast to bond. Chilli is ideal for a family with a fenced yard and kids 7+ years old. Chilli is up to date on shots, spayed, and waiting to meet you. St. Bernard Poodle (Standard)

Size

Not good with kids, Not good with dogs, Good with cats, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Ziggy is loving, fun, and well trained. Parents are purebred St. Bernard and Standard Poodle, from a breeder in MS, born 9/26/2020. After we had twins, as Ziggy matured, he started having leash reactivity in the neighborhood. At home, we have frequent visitors, and Ziggy is enthusiastic and loving once introduced. He once did snap at a child that came at him too roughly. He also once got out of our backyard (gate was left open) and bit a neighborhood dog, who needed stitches. He used to have doggy playdates, and though those always went well, we decided to stop as a precaution. This decision has been tremendously difficult. We love Ziggy. We've put a lot of effort into training and medicating him (currently on gabapentin and clomipramine). As our kids get older, we will be unable to adequately mitigate the chance of Ziggy getting let out. We are hoping to home Ziggy with folks that have a more remote space to let Ziggy run around, and ideally where we can keep in touch with him.

Delilah

German Shepherd Dog Mixed Breed (Medium)

Female, 2 yrs 3 mos
Paramus, NJ
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Good with kids, Good with dogs, Not good with cats, Needs experienced adopter, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Delilah was left behind when her owners moved, and the landlord wanted to send her to the shelter. She was pregnant, and there was no question that we couldn't send her to the shelter because her chances and the puppies staying alive were about zero. Delilah gave birth to 9 beautiful puppies on January 8th. Unfortunately, only seven survived. Delilah is about two years old and 52 lbs. She is ready to come to the NJ area on the next transport when she's adopted. Things to know about Delilah: Sits on command. She listens when she's told, "No jump," while excited when the foster goes in the pen with her. Rolls over for belly rubs Not a mean bone in her body!! Delilah is a strong girl like all shepherds are. She’s learning to heal when the foster walks her, but she will need more training. We recommend no cats. Needs a high-fenced yard. Preferably not chain link because she can climb on it. Gets along with other dogs. She loves water!!! She sits in her water during the HOT summer with over 110 degrees in the south. She loves attention and would sit in your lap all day if she could. The best fit for Delilah will be: We prefer an experienced owner with the breed!! Because of her strength, we recommend children older than 13 Active family High-fenced-in backyard Someone who wants the love of a Shep girl!! *Dogs that are posted are available to be adopted. **If you send us an email, please check the spam folder for our response, as sometimes our email is there.
