Story
About a month ago, I adopted Rusty from the Richland County Adoption Center. He had been there about a week, and was calm and relaxed as other dogs were barking like crazy. At home, Rusty is happy to lounge and cuddle, or chase a ball. He has only barked when seeing a deer or coyote outside. Rusty has not shown any growling or aggressive behavior. Rusty is 3 years old, so a young adult. He had not gotten much training, but wants to learn. Rusty is house trained, knows his name, will come, sit and is good with his crate, but benefits from reminder training. I adore my current beagle, but he is 12 years old. I will be wrecked when he goes, so thought I should overlap dogs. I pamper my current dog, but was surprised by how jealous he is of Rusty. I introduced Rusty slowly, and thought it was going well, but my current dog will growl and snap at Rusty at random times. As near as I can tell, Rusty has not done anything to bring this on. He is a very sweet dog.

Story
Meet Scout, a 70-pound bundle of enthusiasm who approaches life like every day is the best day ever. This handsome boy is a male Border Collie mix with a big personality and an even bigger love for adventure. He was found as a stray and no one claimed him. If you’re looking for a dog who’s ready to get out, get moving, and make the most of every moment, Scout is already wagging his tail to meet you.Scout is full of energy and would thrive in an active household where walks, hikes, playtime, and outdoor adventures are part of the daily routine. He’s the kind of dog who wakes up ready to go and can’t wait to see what fun the day will bring. Now, in the spirit of honesty, Scout is still working on his leash manners. He’s strong and can pull when he gets excited, so he’ll need a confident handler who can keep up with his enthusiasm and help guide him in the right direction. With some basic training and consistency, Scout has all the potential to learn the ropes and become a great walking partner. Right now he’s just a little too excited about the world around him to remember his manners.Scout also has a serious interest in the local wildlife population. Squirrels, birds, and anything that scurries tends to grab his attention immediately, which means a home with cats or small furry pets probably isn’t the best match for this curious guy. Compatibility with other dogs is unknown. Compatibility with children is unknown but older children are a better bet. Scout is currently available through our Foster-to-Adopt Program. That means you can welcome him into your home and start bonding right away while he completes his vetting with the shelter veterinarian. His vetting includes neuter surgery, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and a microchip. If you’re ready for a big, fun-loving dog who will keep life exciting and make sure you never skip leg day on your walks, Scout might just be your perfect adventure buddy. Please email dogadoptions@parmashelter.org and fill out an online dog adoption application to meet Scout. Scout’s adoption fee is $160.

Story
Got this puppy for Christmas but unfortunately he isn’t a fit for our family due to our current situation. He is chipped and I have a warranty from petland for health. He is playful, snuggles a lot and really a great pup. Started learning his name fast and loves running around our backyard. Will meet you to drop off but will not drive longer than a hour.

Story
Meet Harley – your future best friend with a heart as big as her soulful puppy eyes Harley is an 8-year-old, 44-pound Lab mix who proves that age is just a number. Sure, she’s got a little sugar dusting of grey on her muzzle (we like to call it her “wisdom sparkle”), but don’t be fooled—this lovely lady still has plenty of pep in her step. With her medium energy level, Harley is the perfect balance of “let’s go for a walk!” and “let’s cuddle on the couch forever.”Harley came to us after her beloved owner passed away, and while she’s had a tough transition, her gentle, sensitive nature and friendly spirit still shine through. She absolutely adores people and thrives on attention—if you’re looking for a dog who will happily soak up all your love (and maybe demand a few extra belly rubs), Harley is your girl. She’s got some good manners under her belt too. Harley knows how to “sit,” and she responds to “stay” and “lay” like a pro. She’s reported to be housetrained and, bonus—she’s not destructive when left alone, so no crate? No problem!Harley would do best in a home with children over 10 years old and would love a canine companion with a similar laid-back energy. However, she’s made it clear that cats and other small, scurrying critters are a no thank-you from her—she prefers to keep her friend group dog-and-human only. She can also be a little protective of her food, so supervised mealtimes will help her feel comfortable and secure. This sweet girl is already spayed and is available through our foster-to-adopt program, meaning she can start settling into your home while she waits for her shelter vet visit to get vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm tested.Harley is ready to turn the page and start a beautiful new chapter—one filled with love, comfort, and maybe a few extra treats along the way. Could that chapter be with you?If you’d like to add this darling to your family, please email dogadoptions@parmashelter.org and submit an online dog adoption application to meet her. Harley’s adoption fee is 85.00
