Story
Even though Odie was abandoned by his previous family, he still loves people.  He gets along with other dogs and children.  He is high energy and hasn't learned to meet other dogs.  He can be a bit intimidating to other dogs.  His foster brother is a small 13 yr old rat terrier and Odie loves to sleep with him.  It takes a slow introduction for him to settle down.   If you want a hiking or camping buddy, Odie is your guy.  Playing fetch and tug are also favorite things that he likes.  He would love a family who would treat him like a family member.  .  He has already had his dental and is ready to start his new life as a family member.  If you are interested, please contact Rainbow Rescue at 757-472-1583 or rainbowanimalrescueva@gmail.comNovember 3, 2024, 9:38 am

Story
Gus is the sweetest, chilled boy you would ever want to meet.  Even though he has not been treated well, he still loves people.  He was picked up as a stray by one of the local county animal controls and nobody came looking for him.  He is great with other dogs and kids.  Not sure about cats but the hounds we have taken in the past are usually good with cats.   Unfortunately our little man is heart worm positive and will start treatment after neuter surgery and removal of several masses.  He is a couch potato who likes to watch TV with dogs on it and just snuggle with his people.  If you are looking for a friend who loves to go for sniff walks and snuggle in a comfy bed and watch TV with you,  Gus is your boy! If you would like to add this sweet boy to your family, please contact Rainbow Rescue at 757-472-1583 or email:  rainbowanimalrescueva@gmail.com  May 12, 2025, 11:55 am

Story
For inquiries email april@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $600 Location: Newport News, VA Meet Reese Reese is from a puppy mill in Pennsylvania. She is a 4 (almost 5) year old, 14 pound Miniature Schnauzer. She just arrived on Friday, November 7th so we are just learning her personality. So far she is hanging out with the resident female schnauzer and getting used to life as a pet. As with the other puppy mill dogs in our care, she also needs a dental. She will see the vet soon to schedule the dental cleaning and spay surgery. You can see from her profile photos she was only valued for her puppy making skills and all other care took a back seat. Well, that all changes today! We are allowing Reese to have plenty of space to decompress. She is a bit skittish and confused as you can imagine but her foster sibling Hilda is showing her the ropes. She will catch on quickly. We cannot wait to see her personality blossom! Stay tuned for more updates and photos. Once she has healed from surgery she will be available for adoption. Story
For inquiries email susannah@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $600 Location: Norfolk, VA Romeo is new in rescue. He came to us as an owner surrender because they no longer had time for him and it was evident! He was starving and emaciated, almost to the point of death. If we had not taken him when we did, he could have died of starvation. He is currently on a refeeding program and thankfully improving. He is currently about 4 pounds but the vet said he should probably weigh about 10 pounds. Luckily, his blood work and physical exam showed he is an otherwise healthy dog. He was given a good prognosis with a complete recovery expected. Romeo will need a home that can provide him with a stable routine. He needs to know he will never be starved again. He is reported to only like older children. A fenced yard will make him happy! Apply now to make him your forever lovebug! Not good with dogs,
Story
For inquiries email belle@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $500 Location: Virginia Beach, VA Meet Coco Chanel! A Content Little Lady Coco Chanel comes to us from the Suffolk shelter. She is a 12 pound yorkie (mix?) approximately 8 years old. Coco is an exceptionally happy dog, who thrives on human interaction and affection. She loves spending time with people and enjoys being the center of attention. She is content and calm, with no signs of anxiety, and is truly a joyful companion. At night, Coco sleeps in a crate in the foster's room. During the day, when her foster family is away for about three hours, she is also crated. While she may whine a little initially, she quickly settles down and spends her time sleeping or napping. Coco walks well on a leash, especially on grassy surfaces, which are easier for her than concrete or sidewalks due to her ataxia and hind leg weakness. For her safety, she should be kept away from stairs, both going up and down. Coco experiences some unsteadiness due to weakness in her back legs. Although her movements can be wobbly, recent X-rays have not shown any signs of trauma. She is currently awaiting both her dental procedure and spay, which are scheduled for 10/24. While Coco is becoming more comfortable around the resident dogs in her foster home, she is still unsure of them and prefers to keep her distance. She is happiest when she can relax quietly in her dog bed, especially when people are nearby. Coco Chanel is a loving dog who simply wants to be with her people. She would do best as the only dog in the household, as she is not a fan of the other resident dogs. She is perfectly content to remain in a separate room away from them and has shown no signs of anxiety, making her a relaxed and happy companion. Additionally, she is always happy to receive the occasional treat. Please follow us on social media for the most up to date photos and information.
