Story
Have you ever met a young dog who has already learned so much about who he does not want to be? My name is Stanley, and I am a one year old bundle of energy, cuddles, and hard-won trust. Life has not always been gentle with me. I came from a home where I was not given the patience or understanding that a young dog needs, and I learned that hands reaching for me did not always mean something good. But here is the thing about me: I did not let that turn me sour. I have a soft heart, and I am already showing everyone at the shelter just how respectful and eager to please I can be, once I am given the chance. What I need now is someone who understands dogs like me. I do best with people who move slowly and speak softly, who let me come to them instead of grabbing for me, and who understand that a little extra patience now will build a lifetime of trust later. I am not asking for much, just someone willing to learn my language the way I am willing to learn theirs. When I feel safe, I am pure joy. I am cuddly, playful, and full of energy that makes a house feel like a home. I want to run in the yard, curl up on the couch, and figure out this big world with someone by my side who has my back. I am not broken. I am just Stanley, and I am ready for my real chance. Could that chance be with you? 🐾 Stanley

Story
Could a pair of soft, sad eyes be waiting for you to fall in love? Dolly Parton came to Chicago Animal Care and Control with the softest fur you have ever felt and the kind of sad eyes that just need someone to love them bright again. She is very dog friendly, so she would make a wonderful addition to a family that already has a four legged friend or two. She is gentle by nature, and she promises to meet you with nothing but kindness. All Dolly is looking for is a soft bed to call her own and people who will give her the love she has been missing. She loves to play, and she especially loves chewing on her bones for hours of happy contentment. Give her a little time and a lot of affection, and those sad eyes of hers will start to light up again. She is a really good girl, and she is ready to prove it. Come meet her and see for yourself. 🐾 Dolly Parton 🐾

Story
Do you have room in your heart and your home for a gentleman who has already overcome so much and asks for so little in return? My name is Jerry, named for a certain lovable government employee from a beloved television show, and I promise I live up to the comparison in the best possible way. I came to C.A.R.E. as a stray with a very large growth on my foot. It was so big that surgery to remove it alone was not an option, and everyone worried it might be cancer. Before my leg surgery, the team took x-rays to check the rest of my body and to make sure my other leg could handle carrying me on its own. During that process, they discovered I had swallowed a bottle cap at some point in my life, so I had surgery to remove that. A few days later, my leg came off, and the biopsy came back benign. I also had a small mass removed from my neck along with a dental cleaning and a couple of extractions. I have been through a lot, and I have been a very good sport about every bit of it. I am a creature of habit, and I love my routine more than almost anything. I am up early for a walk, I love being outside, and I have never once had an accident in the house, not even when I had that growth on my leg or when I was recovering from surgery. I walk well on a harness and leash, and while I would love to meet every single dog and person I see, I do best when introductions happen slowly and thoughtfully. I do not have an ounce of stranger danger in me. I get excited for guests, I love car rides with my head out the window, and people are always stopping to tell my person how cute I am. I am quiet, easygoing, and content almost anywhere, whether that is at the office, on the couch, or riding along in the car. I love my toys, though I do best with the sturdy kind, and I am wonderful about having boots, coats, or scarves put on me without any fuss at all. The one thing I ask is a home where I do not need to be gated away from cats. I am endlessly curious about them, and while I only want to chase, I know that is not a safe game to play. I have given my foster family so much joy, and I am ready to give that same joy to a family of my own for my senior years, in a home where I can simply be a happy, easy boy without complication. 🐾 Jerry

Story
Imagine losing everything you have ever known — your home, your person, your whole world — all in the span of a single day. This is Zephyr’s story. Zephyr arrived at Chicago Animal Care and Control after his owner passed away. His family did not want him, so he was surrendered to the shelter, lost and scared in a place he did not understand. He was so heavily matted that he needed to be shaved, and he feels so much better now that his coat is finally comfortable again. Despite everything he has been through, Zephyr is gentle and full of love. He adores people and wants nothing more than to be close to the ones he loves. He enjoys leisurely walks and could play with his favorite small tennis ball for hours. All he asks for now is stability, routine, and a peaceful home to call his own. Zephyr would do best in a home with no children and no other dogs, where he can finally settle into the calm, steady life he deserves. He has already lost everything once. Now he just needs someone willing to give him a home he never has to lose again. 🐾 Zephyr

Story
Have you ever seen a dog find relief for the first time in her life? Xena arrived at C.A.R.E. from Chicago Animal Control carrying the weight of a coat so severely matted that it had become a heavy, painful mass. She needed a medical shave just to be free of it, and she did not complain once. She simply waited, patiently, for someone to notice that underneath all of that matted fur was a girl who still had so much love left to give. Now that her fur is gone and her skin can finally breathe, Xena feels like a completely different dog. She did not know how good it could feel to be light and comfortable in her own body, but she is a fast learner when it comes to love. Xena is a sweet and cuddly girl with wonderful energy. She loves to play, and she gets along beautifully with other dogs, so a home with a canine sibling would suit her perfectly. She has such a gentle heart, and she is ready to trust again if someone is willing to be patient with her while her story continues to unfold. Xena does not need much. She just needs a soft place to land, a family who will love her the way she deserves, and a fresh start at the life she never got to have. Could that be you?
