I’ve been at CARE for a while now, and my friends here think it’s time to update my bio, now that they’ve gotten to know me better. To recap, I had a rough start in life. Found as a starving stray, I was taken to an overcrowded shelter in Dallas, temporarily placed in a local foster home, and then transported to Skokie to find my forever person/family. The first thing you I need to tell you about myself Is that I love every adult human I encounter (still waiting to meet some kiddos). My favorite pastime is cuddling with the volunteers and getting lots of pets and hugs. Walks are my second favorite activity. I have good leash manners and take time to “smell the roses,” sniff the other flowers, and roll in the grass. I’m always up for a good game of tug with my red tuggie, and I’ve proven to be the perfect sidekick in the car, jumping right into the back seat and lying down for the ride. As for the basics, I’m potty trained, crate trained, and already know a few commands, such as sit, come, down, and off. I really enjoy learning new things, which is important since obedience training is required for the adoption of large young pups like myself. By the way, I learn especially fast when rewarded with chicken! The only other requirement for my adoption (a fenced yard would be great but not essential) is that I be the only dog in the house, as I can be reactive with other canines. This may change once I’m out of the kennel environment. But for now, I need to be your one and only. I can’t think of anything else to mention, except that I’m hoping this update will make you want to fill out an adoption application and come to meet me. I just have a feeling we’re destined to be together! I have been neutered and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. YOGI Available for Adoption FAST FACTS1-Year-Old Male Labrador Retriever Mix, 60 PoundsHigh EnergyLoving, Happy, Smart, Playful, LoyalPeople FriendlyDog SelectivePotty TrainedCrate TrainedFenced Yard PreferredTraining RequiredNo Cats Greetings from your friend Yogi. I’ve been at CARE for a few weeks, and while I’d hoped to find my forever home by now, my time at the shelter has been very productive. Thanks to a team of dedicated staff and volunteers, I’m transitioning from a goofy pup to a well-behaved young dog. So let me reintroduce myself. The first things everyone notices about me is how handsome I am, and that I always have a smile on my face. But I’m much more than a pretty face and sunny disposition—I’m very smart and a fast learner, particularly when rewarded with yummy treats. I’ve already mastered sit, down, stay, come, and touch. And if you point your finger at something you want me to get, I’ll follow it to the object (not every dog does this—probably the retriever in me). I’m also a devoted companion who wants to be as close to my person/people as possible. That means leaning in for pets and hugs, and jumping into your lap if you call me to come up on the couch with you. Also I’ve never met a human I didn’t quickly warm up to and make my friend. I’m a bit selective with other canines, and my bark can be intimidating. But with slow introductions to the right dogs, I could definitely become buddies with the neighborhood hounds and BFFs witha pooch sibling. A few other facts about me. I’m an energetic guy who lives for action (until I wear myself out—then I just want to snuggle). Long walks are one of my favorite activities. I’ve been working on my leash manners and am learning to “heel” and not pull, though I admit squirrels and bunnies remain a temptation. I also love all toys and will play frisbee as long as your arm holds out. Last but not least, I’m both potty trained and crate trained. Summing up, if you’re looking for an active guy who’s been waiting to give a person/family all my love and devotion, then please fill out an adoption application and come and meet me. The only requirement for is that you sign us up for training classes, so that I can keep on learningand become the best canine companion ever! I have been neutered and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. CARE rescued me from Chicago Animal Care and Control, where I was taken after being picked up as a stray. The streets are a scary place for homeless pooches, and when I arrived at the Skokie shelter, I was afraid of many things, especially bikes. But thanks to the patience and kindness of the volunteers, I’m overcoming my fears, managing my emotions in new situations, and coming to understand that the world is pretty darned great! My favorite activity is being with my humans. I’m an expert cuddler, enthusiastic game player, superb walker (who frequently looks up to make eye contact), avid people-watcher, and belly- rub seeker extraordinaire. I adore playing in my “ball pit”(a kiddie pool filled with tennis balls) and love learning new things. I’ve already mastered several commands, including sit, down, come, stay, and touch, and I’ll give a “high five” when asked. I hope you’ll want to keep practicing with me and teaching me new things by signing us up for training classes. Since I’m very treat-motivated, I catch on quickly! Two things you won’t have to spend time on are pottytraining and crate training—I’ve aced them both. Finally, and at least for now, I need to be the only dog in the house. And no cats, please. I’ve been waiting for the right person/family with dog experience who will provide me with a safe and happy home as I continue to blossom into the amazing and brave pooch I was always meant to be. In return, I’ll devote myself to you, and you’ll soon realize that the world is even greater when we’re together! Please fill out an adoption application and come to visit me verysoon. I have been spayed and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. MONDRE Available for Adoption FAST FACTSMale Mixed Breed, 2-Years-Old, 57 PoundsAffectionate, Gentle, Calm, Playful, SmartMedium energyPeople Friendly (sometimes cautious at first with males)Dog FriendlyPotty TrainedCrate Trained Hi everyone. I’m Mondre, and I came from an overcrowded shelter in Texas. Little is known about my past, but it definitely included mistreatment that makes me initially hesitant with some humans, especially strong/assertive men. But it doesn’t take me long to warm up and get acquainted, as my friends at CARE will tell you. In fact, one of my favorite activities is playtime with the volunteers. We go into a comfort room, where I toss and softly chew on my stuffies while they give me endless pets. I also enjoy going on walks. I do need some work in this area, though, as I like to stop frequently to sniff or roll around in the grass and have to be coaxed to get moving again. And I adore car rides, especially when they include a trip to McDonalds for chicken nuggets! I’m proud to report I’m a very well-mannered pooch and am both potty trained and crate trained. I also know several basic commands, such as sit, down, fetch, and come. Finally, I get along with other canines and have a best friend here at the shelter I guess that’s about all I have to say, and I hope it’s enough to make you want to fill out an adoption application and come to visit me! Until then…. I have been neutered and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. LONDON Available for Adoption FAST FACTSFemale Shepherd Mix, 4-Years-Old, 43 PoundsSweet, Loving, Snuggly, OutgoingMedium EnergyPeople/Kid FriendlyDog FriendlyPotty TrainedCrate Trained Hi everyone, I’m London. I came to CARE as my family could no longer keep me due to health reasons and now I am relaxing in a foster home. My foster mom describes me as a charming, easy-going, big-headed lovebug packaged in a small, athletic body. The most important thing you’ll want to know about me is that I love everyone I meet and am particularly fond of the kiddos. While I can be a bit exuberant and jumpy at first meeting, I quickly settle down. Indoors, my favorite pastime is cuddling with a person while I gnaw on one of my hard chew toys. But when you’re busy with household chores or working from home, I’ll contentedly lie near you and keep you company. Outdoors, I could walk forever. If you wear a fitness monitor, we’ll easily make our 10,000-step quota every day! I do need some work on my leash manners, though, and would definitely benefit from a strong human companion to teach me not to pull. A few other facts about me. I’m 100% potty trained and have never once had an accident in my foster home. I don’t mind being in my crate and am friendly with most other pooches. Finally, a fenced yard to play in would be terrific, but it’s but not essential for my adoption. That’s my story in a nutshell, and I hope it makes you want to fill out an application and come and meet me very soon. If you adopt me, I promise you a lifetime of cuddles, devotion, and joy. I have been spayed and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. MONROE Available for Adoption FAST FACTS  Male Chihuahua Mix, 2 Years-Old, 13 PoundsSweet, Gentle, Loving, Cuddly, CuriousHigh EnergyPeople Friendly (kids ≥3 years because of his small size) Dog FriendlyPotty TrainedCrate Trained Greetings from Monroe, another little waif from an overcrowded Texas shelter that CARE is helping find a forever home. The volunteers say I’m a real sweetheart who’s always seeking out head pets. Once I feel comfortable with a person, I liked to be picked up and put in their lap for some serious snuggle time (I give lots of puppy kisses). I’m also very interested in the world around me—constantly moving and sniffing on outdoor walks and in the playrooms. Toys were a new experience for me, and I’ve decided I like small stuffies best.  Now for the basics. I’m both potty trained and crate trained, so no worries there. As for obedience training, I don’t think I ever had any. But I’m extremely food-motivated and have started learning a few commands, like come. Also, if I put something in my mouth that I shouldn’t, like little sticks, you can take it away from me without a fuss.  My only wish is to lavish my affection on my person/family, including children and other pooches. Does this sound good to you? If so, please fill out an adoption application and come and meet me. Remember, my name is Monroe, but you can call me anything you want as long as you call me yours!  I have been neutered and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325.
