Yes, I have a pretty face, but I’m also smart as a whip, which means my forever family should have experience with active breeds that need both physical and mental stimulation. Training and agility classes would be idea for me and I love going on nature hikes and swimming in the lakes and nearby dog parks. I also have a keen sense of my surroundings; I’m attentive and curious about new people and places. My ideal home should include a fenced yard. I love to run and play outside, enjoy long walks, rides in the car, and can also hang out at home with people. If you’re active, plan to take me with you! A balance of outside time and being with people is a perfect mix for me, but I’m nothappy when left at home alone. I’m at my best when I can count on being with my loving family. My favorite indoor pastime is chewing a strong Nylabone because it helps manage my young teeth. I also love tennis balls and tough squeaky toys. Going to doggie daycare is a real treat because I really enjoy playing with other dogs. I’ve been given high marks for good behavior at daycare. I would be happy as a sole dog with a single person or a family that has solid dog experience. If there’s another dog in the house, my best companion is a soft-hearted adult retriever or retriever-like dog between 2-6 years old. I like adult female dogs, too, but they can be put off bymy good looks, charm, and sharp mind. Yes, they’re jealous and don’t always like me. But, I keep trying because I like them. I am spayed and microchipped along with a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. MONDRE Available for Adoption FAST FACTSMale Mixed Breed, 2.5 Years-Old, 57 PoundsAffectionate, Gentle, Calm, Playful, SmartMedium energyPeople Friendly but reactive to certain peopleDog FriendlyPotty TrainedCrate TrainedFenced Back Yard Required Greetings from Mondre. You may recognize my face from the CARE website, as I’ve been available for adoption for the past few months. While I hoped to find my forever home by now, I’ve so enjoyed living with my fabulous foster family. Because of them, I now understand what it means to be loved and treated with kindness—something I’d never experienced in my previous life.   To recap, I came from an overcrowded, high-kill shelter in Texas. Not much is known about my past, but it definitely included mistreatment that makes me initially leery of strangers, particularly strong/assertive men. But it doesn’t take me long to warm up, get acquainted, and start requesting pets and belly rubs. I adore being outside playing, whether chasing balls, chewing on Nylabones, or simply sitting next to my person and taking in nature. I also like going on walks and really appreciate it when my foster mom or dad gives me time to sniff and roll around in the grass. And don’t get me started about how much fun car rides are–especially when they include a stop at McDonalds for chicken nuggets!  I’m proud to report I’m a very well-mannered pooch, quiet and calm around the house and both potty trained and crate trained (not that I need one). I also know several basic commands, including sit, down, fetch, and come. Since I’m very treat-motivated, I’m a quick study and veryinterested in continuing to learn new things. Finally, I get along well with other canines. In fact, my foster family includes an elderly pooch, and I’m incredibly respectful of her. I hope that taking a fresh look at my bio makes you interested in getting to know me. If so, please fill out and adoption application ASAP! Until then…. I have been neutered and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. TOBY Available for adoption FAST FACTSMale, Labrador Retriever / Basset Hound Mix, 51lbs, 2 years oldSweet, Loving, ShyLow / Medium EnergySlow to warm up to menDog FriendlyKids UnknownCats UnknownPotty TrainedCrate Trained Hi everyone, I’m Toby, though my foster family has been calling me Obi Wan Kenobi which everyone thinks is really cute! I was found as a stray in rural Missouri and dropped off at the local shelter..  When no one claimed me, and my time was running out, I was taken in by a local woman who partners with CARE. I was soon on my way to Skokie, where I was placed in a wonderful foster home.  I’d never before experienced such kindness and affection and I wasn’t sure what to do. I was actually afraid of the attention but now I understand that loving homes exist, and I adore the attention!  I still get a little nervous  around new people and situations, but with gentle encouragement I’m getting used to change and my foster mom tells me how brave I am.  I do get nervous around small children who run toward me and I bark to let them know, but I have no interest in hurting them. In fact, if they continue toward me, I hide behind my foster mom.  My favorite activity is staying close by your side and doing whatever you’re doing.  Whether it’s household chores, assisting you in the kitchen (I’m an excellent taste-tester), watching TV, or anything else, you’ll always have a loyal buddy to keep you company.  And while I’m very low-key around the house, I do like to run around outside.  Chasing squirrels and birds and fetching balls—so much fun!  I also enjoy going on walks (I have good leash manners) and playing with other friendly dogs we meet along the way (and ignoring those who bark at me). I also like cats. They fascinate me. My foster family has two of them and while they don’t want to play, they’re cool with sniffing, nuzzling and an occasional cuddle on the couch.  I’m proud to report that I am potty-trained. Sometimes I forget to let my person know it’s time to go outside and suddenly it’s too late. But my foster family is helping me communicate better and this doesn’t happen very often. Now that I’m on a regular schedule, I can make it through the night without be crated, waiting to do my business until morning.  I’m crossing my paws (see photo) that my bio inspires you to fill out an adoption application right away and schedule a visit.  Please overlook my initial shyness and give me the opportunity to get to know you and become your new best friend! I have been neutered and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. SARGE Available for adoption FAST FACTSMale, Great Pyrenees, 75 pounds, 3 years oldFriendly, Affectionate, Easy Going, Eager to pleaseModerately ActivePeople FriendlyDog FriendlyCat FriendlyKids FriendlyPotty TrainedSingle family home with fenced yard required. Greetings from Sarge. Found as a stray in Dallas, my time was running out at an overcrowded local shelter when CARE selected me for transport to Skokie. I was immediately placed with an amazing foster family, who’s been taking care of me since October as I underwent treatment for heartworm (nearly done—hooray!). My foster mom describes me as a handsome boy with a true passion for walking. She says I have excellent leash manners, never pulling with any force and always maintaining a nice moderate pace. I rise early every morning, wagging my tail in anticipation of our first stroll of the day. How I love the sights and smells of the great outdoors and the opportunity to meet human and canine friends along the way. I love being close to my family and lean in for pets and snuggles. Although I’m a young adult dog, I sometimes act like a playful, silly pup and occasionally do zoomies around the entire yard. Speaking of (fenced) backyards, I spend a lot of time there, chewing on sticks or bones, and need to have one in my forever home. When I see or hear people or dogs going past, I bark to protect my foster home and family—just like I will at your house. Finally, I’m both potty trained and crate trained, although you won’t need the latter because I’m a good boy when left alone. Perhaps you walk for fitness, or maybe you want to start a daily walking regimen. If so, please consider making me your workout buddy (and so much more). I promise we’ll have so much fun together. So don’t delay, fill out an adoption application and come and meet me soon! I have been neutered and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325.00. I must not have had many socialization opportunities as a pup, because I’m a very shy, mild-mannered girl who takes a while to warm up to new people and places. I’m making slow but steady progress in this area, and while I’m not yet a lap dog, I do like to stay close to my foster mom and other humans I’ve gotten to know. Once I settle into my forever home and come to understand I’ll always be treated with patience and kindness, I know I’ll blossom into the confident Blossom I was always meant to be. Among the things I like best are walks (I have excellent leash manners), Kongs filled with peanut butter; and a safe, quiet space to sit and rest. I’m learning to go potty outdoors and will settle in my crate, provided someone is nearby (I have some separation anxiety that may dissipate over time). I also enjoy meeting and playing with other easy-going, gentle dogs. So if you already have a laid-back pooch in your family, I’ll have a built-in buddy and mentor. I’m so looking forward to finally finding my person/family. If you think we might be the perfect match, please fill out an adoption application and come and meet me ASAP. I have been spayed and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325.00.
