Story
Duke is a gentle giant and easy-going southern gentleman from Texas. He has the most contagious smile, goofiest sitting position, and a great love for back, butt, and belly rubs! He recently went to Northbrook Court and Culver's with some volunteers. It was yucky weather so many dogs were walking there and he navigated through all kinds of dogs, big and small. He walked nicely on his harness sometimes giving a little pull toward them but was easily redirected. The volunteers fed him a cheeseburger by hand which he ate with very nice manners but passed on the fries. Duke previously lived in a loving foster home where we learned so much about him! His foster parents told us that he enjoyed spending time with his human companions above anything else - whether he is cuddling in bed receiving pets or going on a nice walk. Duke has wonderful leash manners, and is pretty social and easy-going when meeting new friends. He is known to be the first to the door to greet people. He entertains himself with toys, and he makes sure to entertain his humans whenever he gets the zoomies! He has no issues being approached by or being around children of all ages so he can certainly be adopted into a family with kids, but since he is a larger and friendlier dog he may accidentally bump into and knock down or overwhelm a baby or toddler due to his size alone. His bark is also loud and deep and he can sometimes bark to alarm people of something happening, so it may not be the best living in a home with little ones who frequently nap during the day, as well. But for visiting children and ones he meets in public he is such a sweet boy! In his foster home, Duke initially played, ran, and cuddled with the other two dogs. However after getting settled, he started protecting his things (toys, food, couches) from the other dogs. He was still happy to share with humans and fully trusted the humans with his food. Therefore Duke should be the only dog in the house. He could still socialize with other dogs in a controlled environment without food or toys. Duke seemed fully housebroken once he was given guidance in the new home and at first was taken out extra times to learn the routine-great foster work! As is common with many pets, Duke is on medication to manage his allergies. This has reduced his allergic reactions significantly so we do recommend continuing this when he goes home. Email our Foster Coordinator at foster@orphansofthestorm.org to find out more about Duke and set-up a meet and greet!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
I'm the life of the paw-ty, the Queen of zoomies, and the ruler of hearts - they call me Queen, and for good reason! I'm a bundle of energy, an expert snuggler, a professional entertainer. I cannot wait to meet my forever person, and trust me, the wait has been longer than a dog's nap! It's not that I'm picky, I just like to take my time getting to know my humans. If I bark, it's just my way of saying, "Hey, I'm feeling a bit shy here!" Now, let's talk about my kingdom - the yard! It's officially mine, or so everyone says. Watch me zoom around like there's no tomorrow, soaking in the thrill of freedom. And when you step into my royal territory, be prepared for the royal treatment. I'll come over, give your feet and legs a good sniff, and if you've got a toy, we're already on the fast track to becoming besties. I've got this cool game called "touch." You put your hand out, say the magic word, and I'll nudge it with my nose. But here's the deal: I expect a treat, preferably a soft cookie or some cheese. I mean, a Queen deserves her rewards, right? So, how about it? Come join me in my yard, witness the epic zoomies, and let's become the dynamic duo everyone talks about. I might be a bit bossy with other dogs (I mean they're fine, I just don't want to live with them full-time), so a single-pet home would be my ideal kingdom (and I even have experience with that). Be my friend, and I promise to be the best friend you've ever had!

Story
Penny is a sweetheart who needs a home that will take it slow with her and understand that the world can be a bit scary for her. She takes a little bit to warm up to new people but is always up to play with toys and work for treats. She has enjoyed the company of familiar dogs, but seeing dogs out on walks can be a little overwhelming sometimes. Penny has made a lot of progress in her time with us and in her previous home, but she will need someone to continue helping her through some of her anxieties. She will surely make it worth your while with lots of snuggles!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Allie has been reading up on self-help books and taking lots of notes. She's thinking this year she should decorate her kennel with lots of those "Live, Laugh, Love" and "Failure is success in progress!" quotes. It just doesn't feel the same in a kennel versus a home. Still, we think she deserves an award for "Most Improved" this year! Allie has been putting in the work during her time with us and has made huge progress in her training. She is currently working on relaxing around new people and in new situations. She would LOVE a home to show off her skills in! Allie's ideal home would have grown up (or mostly grown up) humans and minimal visitors. She comes with support from both OOTS and Full Circle Dog training. After over 500 days of waiting (and learning!) Allie is SO ready to make 2024 the year she finds a home.

Story
Nola is our favorite office assistant. She loves to take a nap on the couch in the shelter office, entertain herself with a squeaky toy, or come up to offer staff moral support while doing admin work (that is, she knows a good belly rub goes a long way). Nola is always willing to humor us with new outfits and accessories and has accumulated her own wardrobe during her time here. While Nola was in foster, she got to hangout with some great humans and even met a kitty! She took it all in stride, just happy to have a couch and new friend to cuddle with. Nola can be a Nervous Nelly at times and likes to stick to routines and take her time making new friends. She would love a homebody that "gets" her and is content to chill and watch a movie rather than have a bunch of people over. Us too, Nola.
