Story
Meet Murphy, a 2-year-old affectionate Husky-GSP mix looking for his forever home.Murphy loves pets, cuddles, and especially food—making positive reinforcement training highly effective. He enjoys running, long walks, and the dog park. He’s been with us since puppyhood and bonds deeply with his people. We’re rehoming him because caring for a toddler and preparing for a new baby means we can no longer provide the consistent structure and attention he needs. Murphy has anxiety (including separation anxiety) that can lead to barking and restless sleep. He does not do well around young children but is good with other dogs and cats. He thrives with consistent structure and does best with an experienced owner. He is not neutered but has shown no related behavioral or health issues. A period of adjustment is expected.Looking for a local adopter willing to share occasional updates. If you can offer the steady home Murphy needs, we’d love to hear from you.

Story
Let`s introduce you to Keena! This sweet girl is around 3 yrs old and thought to be a dachshund mix. Keena is hoping for a quieter home where her humans are around throughout the day. She seems fine without having a doggie friend in the house and might even prefer it...... all the attention and treats for herself is not a bad thing in her book. She`s completely house trained, sleeps soundly through the night, and already knows commands like `stay,` `no,` and `down.` She loves spending time outdoors, keeping a watchful eye on squirrels without feeling the need to chase them. She walks beautifully on a leash especially when no there are no distractions but can easily be startled by unfamiliar people or canines that cross her path, and is still working through some separation anxiety. She`s a quick learner who wants nothing more than to make her people proud!Keena enjoys a simple routine and is perfectly satisfied with a comfy bed near her favorite humans. If you`re looking for a loyal companion whose courage shines through in everyday moments, Keena may be the little sidekick you`ve been waiting for.We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog`s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don`t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Story
Izzy (formerly Ostentatia Wallace) is a gentle, thoughtful soul who has quietly mastered the art of being an excellent house companion. Thought to be around 7 years old, she is fully house trained, non-destructive, and respectful of her surroundings—no counter surfing, no table begging, and no mischief when left alone. She crates well (with just a short moment to settle) and is incredibly easy to live with, making her the kind of dog who quickly feels like she’s always belonged.Izzy is very attentive to her people though does need slow introductions to new folks and does best in a calmer house with no young kids. She enjoys being near her humans, soaking up affection and attention, and loves being handled and petted. Izzy would like to be the only pet in the home and soak up all the attention. She already knows “sit” and, with her intelligence and willingness to learn, she has so much potential to pick up more cues and confidence-building skills.Outdoors, Izzy enjoys exploring and taking in her surroundings at her own pace. She isn’t particularly toy-motivated or fetch-focused, preferring relaxed romps and sniffing adventures. On leash, she gets excited when she sees other dogs or people and can be vocal.Izzy is a truly good girl—steady, loving, and ready for a home that will continue to help her grow in confidence while appreciating the wonderful dog she already is.Interested in adopting this dog?Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend. We love our dogs. Story
Meet Kysarah! This beautiful approx. 3-year-old German Shepherd is the definition of calm confidence. Completely house trained, crate trained, and wonderfully respectful in the home, Kysarah is the kind of companion who settles in at your feet while you work, happily naps on the floor, and is perfectly content whether you`re home or away. She knows commands like `come` and `no,` is incredibly eager to please, and with her sharp Shepherd mind, she`s ready to learn whatever you`d like to teach her next.Kysarah`s favorite place is outside, whether she`s stretching her legs on a walk or relaxing in the shade beside her favorite people. She gets along well with other dogs and has been living peacefully with two small canine foster siblings. After slow introductions is also best friends with the other German shepherd in the house. Kysarah isn`t interested in being friends with the kittie, so is looking for a cat free home. While she`s still settling into her new surroundings and hasn`t discovered the joy of toys just yet, she`s already shown what a loyal, loving companion she is. If you`re looking for a sweet, steady best friend who will reward your love with endless devotion, Kysarah may just be the perfect package.Interested in meeting this dog? Story
Are you craving something sweet and spicy? Then Chai may be just the dog for you! This adorable girl loves attention from her humans.Thought to be around a year old, this energetic 11 lb. girl loves to spend time exploring the yard, maybe chasing some squirrels and then is ready for a snuggle. Walks are a lot of fun, and she is still practicing her leash manners. Ignoring all the interesting things you see on a walk is hard after all.Chai has puppy like energy and a few puppy-like traits she needs help breaking. Thankfully she is a fan of training treats and praise so with the right guidance will likely figure it all out. A home with adults only is probably going to be best for this little munchkin. She will guard her toys and other high value items and can be a little mouthy. Chai shows interest in other dogs though is currently the only dog in her foster home so we are not sure if she would share any better with a canine friend than she does with the humans.Chai is crate trained and happy to hang out in her space when needed, though the couch would be preferred if she is allowed. She is still mastering potty training and might get into mischief making her crate a safe, comfy space when the humans aren`t around. With a little bit of time training and bonding with her forever family, Chai will make the perfect companion.Interested in meeting this dog? Story
Baby is the kind of dog who makes a house feel like home. This sweet 8-year-old mixed breed has a gentle soul, a constantly wagging tail, and so much love to give to the people around her. She’s fully house trained, happily lets you know when she’d like to go outside, and can be trusted with free roam of the home while you’re away. Baby adores being near her humans, whether she’s lounging on the couch, curled up in her dog bed, or joining you for a leisurely walk around the neighborhood. One of Baby’s most charming qualities is her calm, affectionate nature. She likes slow introductions to other dogs and would likely thrive in a family with children thanks to her patient demeanor. While she can be a little shy with fast movements or sudden pets, a slow and gentle approach quickly earns her trust. Baby is learning her leash manners and enjoys following the lead of her canine friends on walks. She especially loves being outdoors, as long as her favorite people are nearby.Baby’s foster describes her as grateful, loyal, and deeply loving — the kind of companion who simply wants to be cherished and included. She has playful little bursts of energy with her beloved crinkle toy, but she’s equally content relaxing close to her people. Because she struggles a bit with stairs, she would do best in a home with minimal climbing. In return, Baby promises endless devotion, soft companionship, and the quiet comfort that only a truly special dog can bring. We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs.
