Story
We got Luna at the Middlewest German Shepherd Kennel in Wonder Lake, IL in July 2018. She will be six years old this May. She is house trained, kennel trained and knows a variety of commands. She loves to train as any working breed does. We are looking for a home that can provide both the mental and physical stimulation she requires. She is extremely affectionate, loyal, protective and still exudes a puppy-like energy and enthusiasm. She has been an amazing family pet and has done wonderfully with our young children. We decided not to list a price for Luna because it is not something we are interested in, we truly want to find the right home for her. Her wellbeing is the most important thing to us. Due to our living circumstance we can no longer support her needs and she will truly be missed.

Story
Talk about enthusiasm for life! This is Capone. He goes from full-tilt mid-air toy-catching mode to champion snuggling in no time flat. Yes, he's a meatball. Chunky headed, slobbery, and built like a Mack truck. But Capone's heart is pure gold and his big, brown, puppy dog eyes...well, you'll have to come see for yourself. This boy is all about the toys. His pink ball -- ideal for catching in mid-air, and a favorite stuffie -- for carrying on walks. A fenced-in yard for games of fetch would be ideal. Because what is life, if not fun, right?Exceedingly treat-motivated, Capone is a good learner. He is house-trained and knows several commands. He would prefer to be the only dog in his household because he's still working on his manners with other dogs. No cats for him - they're too much fun to chase. Capone enjoys playing with older children, but little kids might inadvertently get bowled over! He loves, loves, loves car rides and is a good passenger. When done playing, this handsome lug is ready for some serious cuddling. Get ready for slobbery kisses, because Capone has loads of love to share.Need a reminder that life is equal parts fun and love? Capone will show you how to live life to its fullest.Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Searching for a hero! Miss Trixxy is an approximately 5-year-old mixed-breed dog with a very sad background. Her smooth coat is mostly black with patches of white and she has a cropped tail. Her shy eyes and submissive appearance will quickly tug at your heartstrings, especially when you understand her story.Miss Trixxy has had more than her share of bad luck. Abandoned as an adult dog, she came in on transport from Kentucky in September 2022. Unfortunately, she was attacked and severely injured by another dog and, though she has fully recovered from her injuries, she is still fearful of other dogs. Miss Trixxy quickly bonded with her new fosters, both the man and the woman in the home, and loves nothing more than to snuggle next to them or on their lap. She takes comfort from being close to the people she trusts. This is not a high energy dog demanding constant exercise and play - she craves love and attention.Miss Trixxy's fear of other dogs is evident on walks but because she is so small it is easy to manage by avoiding close contact with other dogs. She is highly treat-motivated, and her fosters always bring small treats to help distract Miss Trixxy if they are unable to avoid passing another dog. Her fosters always walk her in a secure harness to avoid the risk of her slipping her collar. Miss Trixxy very much enjoys taking walks, and with attention to these requirements is a pleasant walking companion. This adorable little dog also has some fears around unfamiliar people and is happiest kept safely away from strangers. Anxiety medications have helped to take the edge off her fear; it is advisable for Miss Trixxy to continue these medications. This sweet girl is looking for a quiet home without other dogs or small children (they are too chaotic for her). All she really wants is a human or two to trust, snuggle with, and understand that she is finally safe. Watching her trust and confidence grow will be a tremendously rewarding experience for the right adopter. Could you be her hero?Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Theodore Graham, Theo for short, is a senior pup with friendly, confident nature. He enjoys playing with people or other dogs. One of Theo's favorite activities is playing outside in the yard! Theodore also walks beautifully on a leash, rides quietly in the car, and will let you know when needs some attention with a bark. Woof!Theodore doesn't know a lot of fancy tricks, but he will use his voice to let you know if he needs to head outside. His foster says he's doing really well with house training and appears to be a fast learner who is food/treat motivated. Theodore is also doing well with crate training, settling down after a few minutes. As an aging pup, Theodore Graham would do better in a home with minimal stairs and plenty of carpeted area because slick surfaces can be hard on the knees. Theo has overcome a rough past and would love a quiet home with a calm, relaxed family. If you're the family Theodore Graham's been waiting for, fill out an application today!Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Are you ready to welcome the cutest bundle of fluff you've ever seen in your life? Meet Puppy, a 1-year-old chow chow, collie, golden retriever mix who was found terrified and roaming the streets of the South before SCCR took him in. He may have had a rocky start, but let us assure you, he's come a loooong way since then.Puppy's got a strategy when it comes to meeting humans. Step 1: approach them with a wagging tail and inquisitive sniffs. Step 2: assess the situation, and if a petting hand approaches, execute an expert retreat! Step 3: entice humans to dispense treats in exchange for trust. Step 4: allow special Puppy belly rub (with his foster parents, he's become a belly-rub connoisseur, with a hint of reluctance and a dramatic flair.) Who knew belly rubs could be both a pleasure and an art form?Let's talk about Puppy's skills. He's like a treat-seeking missile, guided by the invisible scent trails of his favorite snacks. He knows his commands - sit, leave it, and touch - and if you wave a treat, he'll be happy to give you a show. He's playful, too; he loves squeaky toys and a good dog wrestle! Puppy does well with all kinds of dogs, as long as they're not too "in his face." In fact, he'd love a home with a fenced-in yard and a confident doggie sibling who can continue to show him the ropes as he grows up. His best bud & foster brother Jaxson can vouch for this. They're like the canine version of dynamic duo, causing double trouble and playing all day long in the yard.Puppy might not be a cuddler (yet!), but he's got ways to show he cares. Waiting outside the bathroom? Check. Tail wagging with enthusiasm? Double check. And the grand finale - letting you pet him and rub his belly without a disappearing act. Bravo! We're looking for a special kind of human for Puppy, someone with a quiet home (probably no small children) who understands that building trust takes patience, time and treats (mostly treats, though). Puppy's journey to normalizing his fears is a tale of triumph waiting for its final chapter. So, if you've got a bit of a doggy whisperer in you, and a love for treats that rivals his own, then you might just be the hero this fluffy adventurer is looking for!PLEASE NOTE: Puppy does have an abnormal gait that he currently manages well without any medication or pain. Anyone interested in Puppy should apply and speak to our medical team for his medical history and records.Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Introducing Aurora: The Energetic Companion with a Heart of GoldLarge and lively, Aurora is a spirited lady who embodies a zest for life that's as infectious as it is endearing. In the short time with her foster family, Aurora has made significant strides in her training journey, showcasing her complete house and crate training and an eagerness to learn new commands. A fast learner, she has mastered sit and stay. Aurora's adoptive family will need to focus some training efforts on her penchant for chewing on clothing and jumping/mouthing when she gets excited. For this reason, she may do better in a house without small children. Her heart of gold and affectionate nature shine through in her love for her people and her insatiable desire for playtime and cuddles. Preferring to be with her people than on her own, Aurora is more of a homebody than an outside explorer. That said, she has endless energy to play with and be pet by her people, and would likely do well in a home with a canine companion to romp around with.Aurora's dynamic personality and energy make her a unique gem among her peers. From her love for hot dogs and food-motivated training sessions to her charm and playfulness that's impossible to resist. With patience, understanding, and plenty of love, Aurora is sure to captivate the hearts of her forever family and bring endless joy and laughter into their lives.Interested in adopting this dog?
