Story
Smart, smart, smart! That's Gizmo. In addition to sit, down, paw, and wait, this handsome fellow is learning peek-a-boo and how to take a bow after giving a good show. Gizmo loves to learn and will benefit from a human who will provide new challenges and positive training. Fun, fun, fun! Gizmo would love a fenced-in yard where he can frolic to his heart's content. He has lots of energy and enjoys a good chew toy, rope, or Kong. Regular exercise will help keep this elegant dog happy and healthy.Sweet, sweet, sweet! When he's done playing, Gizmo likes nothing more than curling up on his doggie bed, snuggling with his family, and giving lots of kisses. He can be selective about his dog friends so may be happiest as the only dog in the household. With his intelligence and capacity for love, Gizmo will be not only a fun playmate but a loyal companion. Might you be the friend he needs?Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Talk about enthusiasm for life! This is Capone. He goes from full-tilt mid-air toy-catching mode to champion snuggling in no time flat. Yes, he's a meatball. Chunky headed, slobbery, and built like a Mack truck. But Capone's heart is pure gold and his big, brown, puppy dog eyes...well, you'll have to come see for yourself. This boy is all about the toys. His pink ball -- ideal for catching in mid-air, and a favorite stuffie -- for carrying on walks. A fenced-in yard for games of fetch would be ideal. Because what is life, if not fun, right?Exceedingly treat-motivated, Capone is a good learner. He is house-trained and knows several commands. He would prefer to be the only dog in his household because he's still working on his manners with other dogs. No cats for him - they're too much fun to chase. Capone enjoys playing with older children, but little kids might inadvertently get bowled over! He loves, loves, loves car rides and is a good passenger. When done playing, this handsome lug is ready for some serious cuddling. Get ready for slobbery kisses, because Capone has loads of love to share.Need a reminder that life is equal parts fun and love? Capone will show you how to live life to its fullest.Interested in adopting this dog? Story
We are searching for a knight in shining armor (or a warrior princess) to rescue this particular Duke.We estimate that Duke John is about 11 years old and 112 pounds of sheer handsome beauty, very loving, and majestic as all get out. He loves to cuddle, would be happiest getting non-stop petting, knows a whole bunch of commands, is housebroken, and stays off the furniture unless invited. A gentle giant, he loves all people (including children) and gets along well with other dogs. DNA tests indicate he is a bloodhound/lab/Catahoula mix. Despite his age, he's got serious power and will need a strong human to handle the other end of the leash in the event an Amazon truck should come along. Duke John loves his routine and it includes non-negotiable short nightly walks - one of his very favorite things in life. This guy is a survivor: having adapted to more relaxed living conditions due to his congenital heart condition and takes numerous medications each day. His health requires a human who can keep him on a strict food and med schedule, let him out frequently, and who will bring him to vet appointments. He is not neutered: due to his age and heart issues, he cannot undergo anesthesia.Anyone interested in Duke John should speak first to our medical staff so we can be certain his health needs will be met. He is searching for an active and loving home where he can live his best life. He is one heckuva special dog.Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Theodore Graham, Theo for short, is a senior pup with friendly, confident nature. He enjoys playing with people or other dogs. One of Theo's favorite activities is playing outside in the yard! Theodore also walks beautifully on a leash, rides quietly in the car, and will let you know when needs some attention with a bark. Woof!Theodore doesn't know a lot of fancy tricks, but he will use his voice to let you know if he needs to head outside. His foster says he's doing really well with house training and appears to be a fast learner who is food/treat motivated. Theodore is also doing well with crate training, settling down after a few minutes. As an aging pup, Theodore Graham would do better in a home with minimal stairs and plenty of carpeted area because slick surfaces can be hard on the knees. Theo has overcome a rough past and would love a quiet home with a calm, relaxed family. If you're the family Theodore Graham's been waiting for, fill out an application today!Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Are you ready to welcome the cutest bundle of fluff you've ever seen in your life? Meet Puppy, a 1-year-old chow chow, collie, golden retriever mix who was found terrified and roaming the streets of the South before SCCR took him in. He may have had a rocky start, but let us assure you, he's come a loooong way since then.Puppy's got a strategy when it comes to meeting humans. Step 1: approach them with a wagging tail and inquisitive sniffs. Step 2: assess the situation, and if a petting hand approaches, execute an expert retreat! Step 3: entice humans to dispense treats in exchange for trust. Step 4: allow special Puppy belly rub (with his foster parents, he's become a belly-rub connoisseur, with a hint of reluctance and a dramatic flair.) Who knew belly rubs could be both a pleasure and an art form?Let's talk about Puppy's skills. He's like a treat-seeking missile, guided by the invisible scent trails of his favorite snacks. He knows his commands - sit, leave it, and touch - and if you wave a treat, he'll be happy to give you a show. He's playful, too; he loves squeaky toys and a good dog wrestle! Puppy does well with all kinds of dogs, as long as they're not too "in his face." In fact, he'd love a home with a fenced-in yard and a confident doggie sibling who can continue to show him the ropes as he grows up. His best bud & foster brother Jaxson can vouch for this. They're like the canine version of dynamic duo, causing double trouble and playing all day long in the yard.Puppy might not be a cuddler (yet!), but he's got ways to show he cares. Waiting outside the bathroom? Check. Tail wagging with enthusiasm? Double check. And the grand finale - letting you pet him and rub his belly without a disappearing act. Bravo! We're looking for a special kind of human for Puppy, someone with a quiet home (probably no small children) who understands that building trust takes patience, time and treats (mostly treats, though). Puppy's journey to normalizing his fears is a tale of triumph waiting for its final chapter. So, if you've got a bit of a doggy whisperer in you, and a love for treats that rivals his own, then you might just be the hero this fluffy adventurer is looking for!PLEASE NOTE: Puppy does have an abnormal gait that he currently manages well without any medication or pain. Anyone interested in Puppy should apply and speak to our medical team for his medical history and records.Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Looking for a gentle dog? You won't find a sweeter, more kindhearted dog than Alma. This four-year-old beauty came to SCCR very frightened and timid, but with quiet reassurance from her foster family, she is beginning to come out of her shell. All Alma wants is affection and love. Oh, and cheese. Maybe some salmon jerky. But truly, she'll cry from excitement when you come home, will follow you around the house, and gets so much joy from belly rubs and ear scratches. She just wants to be with you.A quiet home with a fenced yard would be ideal for Alma, so she can chase squirrels and roll in the grass without much city noise. While she doesn't have a mean bone in her body, she would probably be happiest in a home without small children just because they can be noisy and unpredictable.Whoever ends up adopting sweet Alma will be tremendously rewarded by seeing her confidence grow.
