Billie is at our shelter. Please submit an application from our website or just come in to meet her during open hours! Scroll through her pictures to see all her cute video content! Are you looking for a loyal, chill, fun, and loving companion? If you are, then we already have a lot in common. My name is Billie and I am a beautiful, wise, 7-year-old, German Shepard with a loyal, gentle and nurturing soul. What I dream most about, is being by my special person's side. I see us hanging out in a quiet home where we can be all chill and cozy by the TV, having fun with enrichment activities, and going for lots of walks. I also want to show off my talents, and continue to learn new tricks and skills with you. You can think of me as a bit of a social introvert. Being with people one-on-one is something I love best. I feel most comfortable in very small groups of people and I do prefer people to other animals. New dog friends and strangers can sometimes overwhelm me. The volunteers and staff at Heartland rave about how fast I catch onto things, my snuggling abilities, and gentleness while on walks. I keep my kennel clean since I always do my business outside during my walks. Honestly, the folks are so good to me at Heartland, and I love my routine. Even though I am very happy here, have made a ton of human friends, and have settled into a great routine, I sometimes overhear the wonderful peeps at the shelter talk about how much they want me to find my forever person that I can call my own. I know that's what they want for me, even though they are really going to miss me a lot. I also know they will be dedicated to working with me and you so that we can get to know each other and have the best relationship ever. More than anything, I want to live out my best life with my special person who will make a forever commitment to me. I prefer a quiet, adult home, with one, possibly two people to love, and would like to be your one and only pet. In return, I will love you with my entire being and will make you very proud of me. Plus, there are some added bonuses, my adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous donor and I have a $250 training scholarship! My friends at Heartland are dedicated to helping us get to know each other and will support us along the way. What more can we ask for? Please schedule to meet me real soon, I have so much love to give. Billie's adoption fee is sponsored! This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative

Bowen is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! ***Bowen will be at the shelter this Thursday through Sunday for open hours. Please stop in and meet him!*** Please scroll through his pics to see his cute video content! We rescued sweet 3 year old Bowen from Chicago Animal Control. Bowen's foster family ADORES him! Here is what he has to say about him, "Bowen wants nothing more than to find his new best friend, and he really hopes they have a lap for cuddles and all the tennis balls! He's a lover of soft places - laps, beds, couches. He'll patiently wait for you to come home and will greet you with the most energetic full body wiggles. He's super smart and loves to show off his tricks for treats. Bowen will quickly be your friend, enjoys playing with toys, and is an expert at extracting the squeakers. Mr Bowen is perfectly house-trained, and enjoys walks around the neighborhood. He's a goofy adolescent boy whose favorite place is right next to you." Bowen has lived with kids (ages 7 and up) and he has done well with them! He enjoyed cuddling up on the couch with them to watch a movie and comforting them when they didn't feel good. If you think Bowen may be the guy for you, please inquire about him today! Bowen is a Chicago Dog so his fee is waived! This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Story
Abu is at our shelter. Please submit an application from our website or just come in to meet him during open hours! I've heard humans say, "Bad things happen to good people. And, that's true for good dogs, too. My name is Abu, and I personally know it's true. What I also know is true, is that I am a good dog, and I want to leave my past behind and start a new chapter filled with love and adventure. Trust is super important to me. When I trust, I am extremely loyal, and affectionate. I will follow you around the house, and be there right by your side, waiting until it's time for us to cuddle on the couch. I also will let you know when I need to do my business outside. And speaking about being outside, I love to play in the yard, and I do well on a leash and harness during walks. As much as I love to play and carry my favorite toys in my mouth, I also like to be a slug and chill. People who know me well, call me BuBu, and know I am an all weather kind of guy. In the summer, I love to chase the water from the hose, and try to catch it with my mouth. I also love cooling off in the baby pools, and I enjoy eating ice cubes. In the winter, I can act like a snow bunny, chasing snowballs, and finding sticks in the snow. My frisky, playful side shines when I am outside! I am very talented and I know several commands (sit, lie down, paw), and can't wait to learn new tricks with my new family. Because it's important for us to really get to know each other, the staff at Heartland Animal Shelter will provide you with the best tools and knowledge to help us establish trust with each other. I need my person to lead the way, and to fully teach me the rules of the house. Even though I am dog friendly and enjoy playgroups at the shelter, I prefer an adult-only home where I can be your one and only pet and the center of your universe. In return, you can tell me anything and I promise to never judge you, and will love you forever with my entire heart and soul. Abu is a Chicago Dog so his fee is waived! This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Story
Julie is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! Scroll through her pictures to see her cute video content! Julie came to us from a sanctuary in southern Texas where she had been living for over a year. Her rescuers found her and her siblings living under a pile of rocks on a ranch in the harsh Texas heat. Having grown up in a very rural area with few people around, Julie has needed time to warm up to her new urban surroundings and more noise and activity! Luckily, her canine foster siblings have been there to help her through, and her human fosters are pretty amazing, too! Read on to see what they have to say about sweet Julie: Julie is such a sweetheart! When you're her person, she will shower you with love, cuddles, and company without being clingy. Julie comes from a very quiet, rural area and is still acclimating to the environment and routines of life in Chicagoland. Being the sensitive soul she is, she's a bit uncertain of the newness of it all; as a result, she's nervous around new people and new sights. But once Julie relaxes, she is a cuddly, curious, and even goofy gal. Her foster family jumped at the chance to foster her because they adopted her littermate over the summer and have seen how special these pups are when they blossom. (There are also several other littermates who have been adopted in the area and are connected!) Julie's similarities to her siblings are very striking, and whoever adopts her will be lucky! Julie is an excellent companion to the other two pups in her foster home--one being her littermate and the other being a smaller (30 lb), older, mellow mutt. While she likes other dogs and gains some confidence from their company, she seems most attached to her person/people. She is an excellent snuggler overnight, sleeping by her person's side, and will curl up next to her humans on the couch while they read or watch TV, probably resting her head on a lap as she drifts off to sleep. Julie is very food motivated, which comes in handy with building her trust and comfort in new experiences. She naps much of the day and seems to have medium-low energy for her age. Julie's adoption fee is $250. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Indy is at our shelter. Please submit an application from our website or just come in to meet him during open hours! Scroll through his pictures to see his cute video content! Indy is as handsome as they come! Indy had a family in Kentucky that fell on hard times and could no longer care for him. He loves people and is great with dogs too. He is a big goofball and we love him! Indy has been in a foster home with several other dogs of all ages and sizes, and one amazing human foster dad. His foster dad says, "Indy is a very friendly dog with lots of fun energy. Indy likes to play rough and rowdy with other dogs and sometimes it seems like he could play forever. Indy can be mouthy on people when he is excited, in a puppyish way but he is a big boy, so a family with young children may not be ideal for him, though he is happy to meet kids and anyone. He may just be a bit much to live with them. I think Indy would be great for an active person/couple/family, especially an adopter that would do training to exercise Indy's mind! He is a working/herding dog and needs to burn mental energy too! Indy's adoption fee is $250. This animal is neutered, is up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
