Story
My name is Cookie. I am a 2 years old Old English Sheepdog. My birthday is May 28th. I’m not spayed and up to date on all my vaccines. I love people and can warm up to other animals, just need more time than others. I would love a home with a fenced yard so I can have the freedom of running around. I’ve had many homes in the last couple years. My first home no longer wanted a dog. My foster mom took me in and shaved the matting out of fur to bring me to my second home. I loved it there but she did not have enough time for me. Sheepdogs can be considered high maintenance dog breeds, I require daily brushing and grooming to maintain my coat and cute look. I do have some special needs as well. I didn’t come to my foster mom with any veterinary records or known previous care. My lab work indicates kidney disease, meaning it is encouraged for annual-biannual veterinary care and a special diet. I am ready for my forever home, I know I come with more baggage than most, but I have lots of love

Story
Lux is a wonderful dog as the only pet in the house. He loves to sit with his owner(s). He is about 9 years old. We rescued him in 2020 from a local shelter; he was almost four years old then. He likes to take walks every day, if possible. Lux needs to be in a home with no other dogs or cats. He bonds with his owner and enjoys that closeness. That is why we want him to find a home with that attention.

Story
Cash is a sweet eight-month-old boy who loves to play with people and other dogs. He also loves a good belly rub and always greets you with an excited wiggle and tail wag. He likes fetch, tug-of-war, and going for walks. He would love a yard to run around or someone who can take him on frequent walks. He is good with dogs of all sizes and will even play with cats. He is fully house and crate trained and knows a few commands such as sit and come and is working on heeling. He also knows to sit and stay at the door when going outside or coming back inside. He is such a good boy looking for a great new home.

Story
Scroll through his pictures to see his videos! Hamilton is a 3 year old little cutie who comes to us from Chicago Animal Care and Control. We've never met a dog that looks like him! He is like a mini-pittie/chihuahua or something. Whatever he is, it is adorable AND sweet. Hamilton is a wonderful little guy. Hamilton *loves* toys more than anything, especially the types that squeak. You can always get his attention with a squeaker! Hamilton and his stuffies...we love how he picks up his Space Man stuffy to go on walks and carries it around ever so gently in his mouth. His foster mom has been working hard on his training, especially to trade his toy for treats or other toys. He's even learning to fetch - at first he didn't bring the toy back but he's now learning the game is even more fun when you do. We think it's funny that Hamilton is a little finicky with his food - he knows what he likes and won't settle for less! Wet food? Heck no. Parmesan sprinkled on his kibble? Yes please! He will stick his nose up at different treats, but we've found what he does like and pupperoni is the winner. Hamilton has spent time in a foster home and he's done so well! We asked his foster mom to write a bio for him, and here's what she has to say! "Hi. I am Hamilton, but I answer to Hammy. When my name is called, I get excited because usually it means something good is in store.... a walk, a treat, a game, a ride. At home I lay on the couch, or my bed, or out on the balcony, and sometimes I go in my crate if I want some privacy - that's usually where I clean myself. Once I get comfortable with my human, I also like to lay on their lap and even roll over, so they pet my belly. I like to get a little all over massage whenever possible. I am curious, so I stop and smell a lot, but I just need some reminders to walk, or as my human says, "watch me", and maybe a treat when I am walking good. I am not much of a barker, so I am really good in an apartment or condo. However - I do not like rain, or sprayed water, or sprinklers. I often avoid going out in the rain so sometimes i have to be coaxed out to do my business. I am a wonderful boy!" Hamilton's adoption fee is $250. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Story
Carmen is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! Scroll through her pictures to see her cute videos! Carmen is what we call a Kentucky Brown Dog! She is a medium sized mixed breed that came to us from Kentucky in June 2024. Carmen was adopted into a wonderful family with kids, where she lived for almost 4 months until there was a fire in their home and they made the difficult decision to return Carmen back to us to rehome. Carmen is living in a foster home with one of our wonderful staff members, who has a pack of dogs that she loves. She loves every dog, really. She's a social butterfly with the other dogs, attended doggy daycare in her previous home, and has done well with small dogs, too. She loves to do zoomies around the dogs and jump on them and play. Carmen loves her people, but she is timid and finds some people scarier than others. Carmen does seem a bit more afraid of larger men and will bark at them at first, and takes time before she trusts them. Her foster dad is her all-time favorite person, so we know she can bond with men if they give her time. Although she loved the children she lived with previously, we do think an adult only home will be best for her. She will need slow, steady introductions to new people. Predictability and routine go a really long way. Carmen's foster says, "Carmen is so sweet!! Great with all my big dogs, will play with them and then when it's time to relax, she find a nice hard toy to chew on! She likes to follow you if you get up to go anywhere and sleeps next to you! Only had an accident the first night, gets up when wants to go out and she can hold it the whole night! Does get scared kind of easily, probably just because of what she's been through at such a young age. She runs away from the vacuum. She does do a perfect sit, and needs continued training, as she does have some puppy behaviors still. She's a great dog to have around, waiting for her furever home!!" Carmen's adoption fee is $250. She is spayed and is up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Story
Rose Bud is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! Scroll through her pictures to see her cute videos! We are so happy to have rescued this happy and fun little lady from Chicago Animal Care and Control. She is currently living in a foster home with a family with adult kids (though she has stayed in foster with smaller kids, we think her energy is best suited to a family with older children!). She doe snot currently live with any dog fosters siblings, but we know that is something that Rosie (as she is known) would absolutely love! Rosie's foster family reports that she is housebroken when kept on a strict schedule, and she is also crate trained (she may bark for ten or so minutes, but is always snoozing away when they return). Here is what else her foster mom has to say: "Adorable and petite pittie Rosie is full of love for all people, other dogs, FOOD!, car rides, and sitting in the sun! This young lady loves to be wherever you are, whether it's on the couch, making dinner, or sleeping in your bed! She's super smart, can occupy herself for long periods of time with bones and enrichment activities, and enjoys learning new things. She is also very tolerant of her foster mama dressing her up in a variety of outfits, from PJs to sports jerseys! She would thrive in a house with another medium or large dog to play with, a fenced yard, and someone who can devote time to training (as any adolescent dog, especially one who was likely never worked with as a puppy, would benefit from!)." We hope you will ask about Rose Bud today! Rose Bud’s adoption fee is sponsored. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
