Story
Max is a super friendly family dog. Great with kids and other pets. We got him from a breeder when he was 3 months old and he has been a part of the family since then. Loves to go on a walk and is easy to walk as well. Good listening skills and follows basic commands really well. Change in work schedule is making it difficult for us to to give him the attention he needs. Looking for a family that can welcome Max to their family. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Story
6 Years old - owned since puppy Relocated to a new state and am unable to bring him to new home. Stony’s a huge protector, but also the biggest snuggle bug baby ever. He loves to play, watch tv, cuddle - as long as he’s with you, he is happy.. this dog has changed my life in so many ways for the better. Stony’s Great for someone who is a home body and doesn’t care for a lot of company , and just needs a companion. He can Also be really great for a family with kids. (I swear he loves kids more than adults) He does really well with cats, and with the proper introduction and attention, dogs too. He is Potty trained and crate trained - just needs an owner who is aware of the breed and knows how to handle Pitbulls and be assertive with him. Fenced in yard is the necessary.

Billie is at our shelter. Please submit an application from our website or just come in to meet her during open hours! Scroll through her pictures to see all her cute video content! Are you looking for a loyal, chill, fun, and loving companion? If you are, then we already have a lot in common. My name is Billie and I am a beautiful, wise, 7-year-old, German Shepard with a loyal, gentle and nurturing soul. What I dream most about, is being by my special person's side. I see us hanging out in a quiet home where we can be all chill and cozy by the TV, having fun with enrichment activities, and going for lots of walks. I also want to show off my talents, and continue to learn new tricks and skills with you. You can think of me as a bit of a social introvert. Being with people one-on-one is something I love best. I feel most comfortable in very small groups of people and I do prefer people to other animals. New dog friends and strangers can sometimes overwhelm me. The volunteers and staff at Heartland rave about how fast I catch onto things, my snuggling abilities, and gentleness while on walks. I keep my kennel clean since I always do my business outside during my walks. Honestly, the folks are so good to me at Heartland, and I love my routine. Even though I am very happy here, have made a ton of human friends, and have settled into a great routine, I sometimes overhear the wonderful peeps at the shelter talk about how much they want me to find my forever person that I can call my own. I know that's what they want for me, even though they are really going to miss me a lot. I also know they will be dedicated to working with me and you so that we can get to know each other and have the best relationship ever. More than anything, I want to live out my best life with my special person who will make a forever commitment to me. I prefer a quiet, adult home, with one, possibly two people to love, and would like to be your one and only pet. In return, I will love you with my entire being and will make you very proud of me. Plus, there are some added bonuses, my adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous donor and I have a $250 training scholarship! My friends at Heartland are dedicated to helping us get to know each other and will support us along the way. What more can we ask for? Please schedule to meet me real soon, I have so much love to give. Billie's adoption fee is sponsored! This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative

Bowen is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! Please scroll through his pics to see his cute video content! We rescued sweet 4 year old Bowen from Chicago Animal Control. Bowen's foster family ADORES him! Here is what he has to say about him, "Bowen wants nothing more than to find his new best friend, and he really hopes they have a lap for cuddles and all the tennis balls! He's a lover of soft places - laps, beds, couches. He'll patiently wait for you to come home and will greet you with the most energetic full body wiggles. He's super smart and loves to show off his tricks for treats. Bowen will quickly be your friend, enjoys playing with toys, and is an expert at extracting the squeakers. Mr Bowen is perfectly house-trained, and enjoys walks around the neighborhood. He's a goofy adolescent boy whose favorite place is right next to you." Bowen has lived with kids (ages 7 and up) and he has done well with them! He enjoyed cuddling up on the couch with them to watch a movie and comforting them when they didn't feel good. If you think Bowen may be the guy for you, please inquire about him today! Bowen is a Chicago Dog so his fee is waived! This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Story
Abu is at our shelter. Please submit an application from our website or just come in to meet him during open hours! I've heard humans say, "Bad things happen to good people. And, that's true for good dogs, too. My name is Abu, and I personally know it's true. What I also know is true, is that I am a good dog, and I want to leave my past behind and start a new chapter filled with love and adventure. Trust is super important to me. When I trust, I am extremely loyal, and affectionate. I will follow you around the house, and be there right by your side, waiting until it's time for us to cuddle on the couch. I also will let you know when I need to do my business outside. And speaking about being outside, I love to play in the yard, and I do well on a leash and harness during walks. As much as I love to play and carry my favorite toys in my mouth, I also like to be a slug and chill. People who know me well, call me BuBu, and know I am an all weather kind of guy. In the summer, I love to chase the water from the hose, and try to catch it with my mouth. I also love cooling off in the baby pools, and I enjoy eating ice cubes. In the winter, I can act like a snow bunny, chasing snowballs, and finding sticks in the snow. My frisky, playful side shines when I am outside! I am very talented and I know several commands (sit, lie down, paw), and can't wait to learn new tricks with my new family. Because it's important for us to really get to know each other, the staff at Heartland Animal Shelter will provide you with the best tools and knowledge to help us establish trust with each other. I need my person to lead the way, and to fully teach me the rules of the house. Even though I am dog friendly and enjoy playgroups at the shelter, I prefer an adult-only home where I can be your one and only pet and the center of your universe. In return, you can tell me anything and I promise to never judge you, and will love you forever with my entire heart and soul. Abu is a Chicago Dog so his fee is waived! This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Story
Maggie is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! Scroll through her pictures to see her cute videos! Maggie is a low rider meatball queen! We are all obsessed with her and her gentle demeanor, and endearing snorts. She's a happy chunkster who loves being with people. Her whole body happily wiggles when she wants someone to interact with her. Her foster mom and dad write, "Maggie is the most laid-back pup we've had. She almost 10 and she is the most carefree pup in our neighborhood. She's made a schedule to her liking. Her bedtime is 9pm and she will nudge you to take her out for her last very short walk. Morning for her is whatever time we want to get up, usually between 8-9. She's on a special diet which she loves and takes some meds for her allergies. She gets one cup of her special diet at 8-9am and 4pm. At 3pm she thinks it 4pm and will definitely follow you around reminding you of her supper time. As for play, she'll retrieve maybe twice but don't count on her dropping the toy or ball, she'd prefer to retrieve and then lay on her bed and chew it. She does it her way! Maggie loves to be petted and belly rubs are her favorite. She'll come up to us on the couch and raises her head then one front paw so we can get to her belly. It's her favorite thing. Maggie wants to be around people and follows us all around the house. She greets visitors calmly then goes back to lay down. We live on a bike path with lots of bikers and dog walkers going on the path. Maggie will look up interested but it rarely bothers her. She's a pretty strong dog and we use a split leash on walks and it works great. She however on walks does NOT like other dogs and we just avoid them. She stops and stares at them. Squirrels don't bother her. One big asset is her walks are not very long. She does her business and turns around to go home, especially if the weather is inclement. Her short walks are her secret power. She been taught to not beg for food or go on furniture unless you say, UP. She will then will keep nudging you to pet her-constantly. Maggie loves her special baths with peanut butter on the wall. When the peanut butter is gone, she politely turns around to be rinsed and dried. Maggie is a responsible pup and can be left alone for hours. Just give her a treat or her favorite Nyla bone and she's happy to entertain herself. We do not cage her or confine her anymore (we did at the very beginning when she did not know us, nor we her, and I would suggest his for any potential adopter) Maggie would be great in a home without other dogs. She does love children if the come up slowly to her. She allows them to pet her and does not jump or scare them. Maggie likes to visit the residents at a local senior center and she brings so much joy to them!" Maggie's adoption fee has been generously sponsored. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and she is Heartworm negative. Maggie does have allergies to certain foods so she is on a prescription diet and takes an allergy medication, which she will likely need to be on for life.
