Story
Searching for a personal assistant who doesn't take notes, but does take naps? Meet Hanky: He is the ultimate definition of a velcro dog. If there were a map of your house, his favorite destination would be Right Next To You. He’s a gentle soul who prefers a cozy hangout session over a wild party, making him the perfect companion for anyone who loves a quiet afternoon and a loyal sidekick. Wait until you see those puppy dog eyes in action Watch Hanky’s adoption video! https://youtu.be/7fFX-GAgDW8 What exactly is Hanky Pank ? While we’d love to check his family tree, as with any rescue, we’re mostly making an educated (and very cute) guess! He’s 67 lbs of pure adoration, with a heart that’s clearly much larger than his frame. Think of him as a premium, fur-covered weighted blanket that’s always ready for a snuggle. Hanky is currently flourishing in a foster home where he’s learning that the world is a pretty great place. He is a true gentleman who treats every interaction with a quiet, polite grace. When you offer him a snack, he takes it with the gentlest of touches, often following it up with a soft thank you kiss that will absolutely melt your heart. When it comes to making four legged friends, Hanky is all about the slow and steady approach. He’s a polite soul who gets along with everyone from tiny pups to big companions his own size. Hanky Pank isn’t the let’s wrestle type, he’s much more of a quiet co-exist. He prefers friends who share his chill vibe and appreciate the finer things in life, like a long nap in a patch of sunlight. He’d be a wonderful brother to a calm resident dog, but he’s also perfectly content to be your one and only and soak up all the attention for himself. Whether he’s part of a pack or your solo sidekick, Hanky just wants everyone to feel as relaxed as he is. Whether your pack includes other four legged friends or just a few favorite humans, Hanky is officially ready to move in and make himself at home. If you have a spot on the floor and an even bigger spot in your heart Hanky is ready to be your most loyal sidekick for life. What about feline roommates? While Hanky is a world-class lover, he’s decided that he’d prefer a feline free sanctuary. He is looking for a home where he can be the star of the show without any cat. Hanky’s dream home is a peaceful sanctuary where he can be the center of your world. While he’d love a yard to sniff around in, his calm demeanor makes him perfectly suited for apartment living as long as he has his favorite human nearby. There is something deeply special about winning Hanky’s heart: once he knows he’s home, he becomes a total tail wagging machine the very moment you walk through the door, greeting you with a rhythm that says, I’m so glad you’re back. It’s a sweet, soulful welcome that reminds you every single day just how much you are loved. In every way that matters, Hanky is a soulful, gentle, and incredibly loyal friend who is simply looking for a soft place to land and a person to call his own. He is a low gear guy with high quality love to give the kind of companion who doesn't need much more than your presence to be perfectly happy. Ready to bring this sweet shadow home? Story
Velvet tuxedo coat, lightning-fast tail wags, and a gentlemanly sit-and-shake combo that is hard not to feel is especially for you… this is Bond! Confident, cheerful, and ready to charm every room he walks into, Bond has that easygoing charisma that makes people smile the moment they meet him. Want to see this handsome boy in action? Head over to YouTube and then come right back to read more about the boy who believes good manners and happy tail wags are the ultimate undercover tools. Bond is estimated to be about 2 years old and appears to be a pittie-type mix with a sharp black-and-white “tuxedo” look that really does give him leading-man energy. As always with rescue, breed and birthday are our best guess. From the moment we met Bond, his personality and happy energy made an impression. His tail was wagging so fast it was practically a blur and his little feet were tapping with excitement to say hello. He’s a people-oriented guy who clearly enjoys connection, and he settles into any space with friendly curiosity and a warm, welcoming presence. Bond already comes with a couple of charming built-in tricks too. Ask for a sit and he’ll happily offer it. Ask for a shake and he’ll deliver that polite paw like a true gentleman. It’s a simple little combo, but it melts hearts every time. On leash, Bond has the basics down but is still polishing it up and he will naturally benefit from continued practice and guidance. He checks in with his person often and he responds nicely to correction and direction which shows that he’s a smart boy who wants to work with his person. With dogs Bond is friendly and curious meeting new dogs both on and off leash. He’s still figuring out the language of play and when the other dogs started romping around he is happy to just tag along.. At times he will bounce nearby or run alongside like he wanted to join the fun but wasn’t quite sure how yet. With a calm, easygoing dog companion, especially a medium or lower-energy female, we know his social and playful side will shine. Bond showed us all a sweet, affectionate side that really looks best on a cozy couch. Once invited onto the couch he turns into a puddle of love. He leans into attention and enjoys spending time close by his people. That gentle, people-loving nature makes it easy to picture him settling happily into family life. Bond could do well in a house with a yard or a quieter apartment setting where he can relax and settle in comfortably. Most of all, he’s looking for people who will appreciate his sweet nature, his cheerful spirit, and of course… that very impressive sit-and-shake. If you’re looking for a friendly, affectionate dog with a little bit of charm, a little bit of goofiness, and a whole lot of heart, Bond is your guy! Apply to adopt Bond today! https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/69a5d0c4e43326213d0f7e97 Questions? Story
Calling all Lab lovers! You’re going to want to meet Penny Love. This sweet girl has that rare, effortless charm that makes her feel like an instant classic. She’s easygoing, kind-hearted, and carries the kind of steady, loving presence that people search for when they imagine their perfect dog. Penny Love is the total package: beautiful, dog friendly, cat friendly, and blessed with a calm, balanced temperament that makes life alongside her feel simple and comfortable. She’s the kind of companion who fits seamlessly into your world and quickly becomes the best part of your everyday routine. Watch her video and fall in love with this sweetheart: https://youtu.be/kW3iAoiazEU?si=3SoiX_Hb22fB-iRe Penny Love is believed to be a Lab mix approximately 1.5 years old and currently weighs 70 lbs. She is a rescue dog and with any rescue, it's always a mystery and we cannot guarantee breed or age. From day one in her foster home, Penny has been an absolute dream. Truly the kind of dog people hope for. Her energy is beautifully laid back. She’s not constantly on the go, not busy or chaotic. She’s usually found curled up relaxing, just enjoying being near her people. She has that rare “young dog with an old soul” vibe that makes her feel so easy and comforting to be around. And while she loves being close to her humans, she’s not clingy or overwhelming. She’ll happily stay nearby, keeping you company, without needing to be on top of you every second. It’s the perfect balance. When it comes to other dogs, Penny is polite but a little shy at first and more of a slow-burn companion. Penny does best with dogs that are more on the calm side when meeting and not wanting to immediately jump into play right out the gate because that’s just not Penny. Once she knows she’s safe, though, she relaxes and starts to open up especially with calm, mature dogs who match her vibe. She enjoys being around them, sniffing, walking alongside, etc. When she does play, she enjoys doing little side-by-side romps but she’s not a rough-and-rowdy playstyle kind of girl. Think “let’s hang out together” energy, not chaos. Penny will do best in a home with a doggy friend that has the same cool, calm, and collected vibe like herself. A male friend that enjoys the company of another dog, isn’t looking for a constant playmate, and will respect her space once she arrives at her forever home. If you don’t have other dogs, Penny is totally fine with that. She is always happiest when she’s surrounded by her favorite people, and she truly loves everyone! While she’ll happily play with another dog that matches her style, her eyes light up when she’s being loved on, and she doesn’t need the company of another dog to feel secure or fulfilled. Besides, we don’t think she’ll mind being the center of your attention anyway. She’ll soak it all up. If you don’t have other dogs but you have a cat or two, Penny is cat friendly and is currently fostered in a home with 3 cats free roaming and does great with them! Her foster’s cats are very dog savvy and are used to being around big dogs. Penny and her feline friends happily co-exist, do their own thing, and don’t really bother each other too much. Penny will do best in a home with a cat (if you have one) that is very similar in temperament as the ones she is fostered with. They are aloof, keep to themselves, and don’t really care to interact with Penny. Doesn’t she already sound amazing?! Well wait, there’s more! Penny loves treats, is learning basic commands such as sit, and wants to make you happy. She is potty trained as well and is working on getting more comfortable with a crate every day. She’ll be a great companion for someone who enjoys going on casual strolls throughout the neighborhood and for someone looking for a snuggly pal at the end of the day. She is essentially a homebody and just enjoys the peace and comfort being home. She will absolutely go exploring with you on mini adventures, she just enjoys being home. Penny enjoys being outside and would absolutely love for her forever home to have a nice big backyard where she can roam, play with her toys, and relax in the sun. Penny isn’t chaotic puppy energy. She’s that perfectly balanced, go-with-the-flow Lab who knows when it’s time for a stroll, when it’s time for a toy, and when it’s time to melt into the couch beside you. Penny does have the potential to also thrive in an apartment. She is generally a mellow girl that doesn’t require a whole lot of exercise, her at the end of the day, her happy place is with you. She has wonderful house manners, is respectful in the home, and carries herself like the polite little lady she is. No nonsense. No drama. Just solid, dependable good girl energy. Penny isn’t just looking for a home, she’s looking for her family. The ones who are ready for a steady, loyal companion who will greet you with a wagging tail, settle in beside you after a long day, and quietly become the best decision you’ve ever made. She’s the kind of dog who doesn’t need to be flashy to stand out. Her goodness speaks for itself. If you’ve been waiting for that easygoing, well-mannered, dog-friendly, cat-friendly, mellow Lab who feels like she’s always been yours… this is your sign. Penny is ready to start her forever chapter, all she needs now is you We are willing to test Penny Love with anything you need in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! If you’ve ever wished you could bottle up pure love, warmth, and comfort into one tiny, perfect companion… meet Bitsy. Bitsy is the definition of a gentle soul. At around 9 years old, she has fully mastered the art of love, connection, and quiet companionship. She isn’t here for chaos or wild adventures—she’s here for you. Your lap, your arms, your heart. In fact, if it were up to her, she would happily live tucked right against you like a little kangaroo, soaking up every ounce of affection she can get. Watch her YouTube video now https://youtu.be/P8MLIsXDaHQ?si=WIEzgwjEdXuihfzM And affection? That is Bitsy’s absolute favorite thing in the entire world. Pets, scratches, soft voices, warm laps—she lights up at all of it. Belly rubs, though? Those are her everything. Give her a cozy spot and a few gentle rubs, and you’ll see her melt into pure happiness, completely content and trusting. It’s honestly a little unbelievable how sweet she is—like she was made to love and be loved. Bitsy has such a calm, comforting presence about her. She’s the kind of dog who makes a house feel like a home just by being there. Her gentle nature means she moves through life at a soft, peaceful pace, always ready to curl up beside you, rest her head on you, and just be with her person. She doesn’t ask for much—just closeness, kindness, and someone who will treasure her as much as she will treasure them. There is something so special about senior dogs, and Bitsy is the perfect example of why. She has all the love to give, none of the chaos, and a heart that is fully open and ready to bond deeply with her forever person. She’s past the puppy stage and into the stage where she truly understands what matters most—connection, comfort, and companionship. If you’re looking for a dog who will greet you with softness, stay by your side, and fill your days with quiet joy and unconditional love, Bitsy is waiting for you. She doesn’t need a lot—just a warm place to cuddle, a gentle hand to pet her, and someone to call her own. And in return, she will give you a kind of love that only a dog like Bitsy can give—pure, steady, and endlessly sweet. Adopt Bitsy and see for yourself… but be warned: once she curls up into you, you may never want to let her go. Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life? Story
If your dream dog is the kind that can’t get close enough to you, the kind who melts into every pet, leans in for more, and turns affection into her full-time job… Tamera Honey is about to be your girl. She has that big, over-the-top, all-in kind of love that Shepherd people know and hope for. The kind that makes you laugh, makes you feel wanted, and somehow makes every interaction feel like the best part of her day. But wait…there’s more! Tamera Honey is not only incredibly sweet but she is also amazing with kids, dog friendly, respectful around cats, smart, and the list can go on and on. She’s a special one, no doubt about that. Watch her video and you’ll see just how sweet she is: https://youtu.be/ghl6TxnJ81Q?si=zweDqvJtpjKEIcsn Tamera Honey is believed to be a German Shepherd mix approximately 1–2 years old and currently weighs 58 lbs. She is a rescue dog and with any rescue, it’s always a mystery and we cannot guarantee age or breed. Just based on looks alone, it’s pretty fair to say she has some GSD in that DNA. We’d love to find adopters who have a little GSD experience under their belt, someone who understands their fun, independent spirit and is ready for a loving, adventurous companion. Tamera is dog friendly and has done great with all of the dogs we have introduced. She does prefer slightly slower introductions before jumping into playtime. When she does play, she plays like a total shepherd. If you know shepherds, then you know the vibes. Mouthy air play, little nose boops where she sees fit, and plenty of chase games. It’s entertaining to say the least! Tamera is more of a bounce-around, run-alongside-her-friends kind of girl rather than constant wrestling. She will give a subtle correction if she’s not feeling it or if play gets too rough, like an older sister setting fair boundaries. Always appropriate, always respectful. Tamera would do best with a moderately playful dog that enjoys both playtime and downtime. A buddy who can match that balance would be perfect for her. If you don’t have another dog, that’s totally fine too! Tamera doesn’t need a doggy companion to feel comfortable or fulfilled. She is a total lovebug with her people and will be perfectly happy with backyard play sessions or neighborhood walks with you. Tamera also met our house cat Biggie and did great. She was respectful, didn’t chase, and wasn’t bothered by typical cat behavior. Biggie was comfortable around her as well. While we don’t know her full history with cats, she showed all the right signs. If you have a cat, we can always arrange a meet-and-greet or sleepover to be sure it’s a good fit. Tamera is a smart girl too! She is very treat motivated, eager to please, and already knows so many tricks! She knows how to sit, down, shake, spin, roll over, and speak! Tamera loves to make you happy and gives us the impression that she is the type that you can teach anything too. She walks fairly nicely on a leash and may pull occasionally out of excitement, but she responds well to gentle reminders and is easy to refocus. She’s also comfortable tandem walking with other dogs. On top of that, she is crate trained and potty trained! With consistency and a few treats, any additional training will be a fun and rewarding experience for both of you. Tamera would thrive in a semi-active home that enjoys neighborhood walks, a little adventure, and a whole lot of affection. If you’re someone who loves to host, she will absolutely be the first one at the door greeting your guests. And if you’re having a quiet day at home? That’s perfect too. She’ll be happiest right there with you. She would make an amazing adventure buddy. Take her to the park, explore nature trails, go on outings, or visit your favorite local spots and watch her collect fans everywhere she goes. Tamera would thrive in a home with a backyard where she can stretch her legs, soak up the sunshine, and happily hang out alongside you while you go about your day. With this beautiful gals voice, apartment life won’t be a good fit for her. When it comes to kids, Tamera just gets it. She has been around children as young as 7 and handled it beautifully, like she instinctively knew exactly where she belonged. She was gentle, patient, and so naturally in tune with them, soaking up affection while staying respectful of their space. There’s something really special about the way she interacts with kids. It’s easy, calm, and genuine. She doesn’t come in too hot or overwhelm them, she simply fits right in, like she’s always been part of the family. Tamera has all the makings of a true family dog, the kind who will happily be part of playtime, then settle in right alongside everyone for those quieter, cozy moments. She’s the kind of dog who just wants to be part of your life, wherever that may be. We are willing to test Tamera Honey with anything you need in order to ensure it's a perfect match. Story
This sweet caramel-swirled girl walks around like a warm hug with legs. Her name is Sadey, spelled S-A-D-E-Y, because even her name deserves a little extra sparkle. She's got those soft, floppy ears that look like angels handcrafted them, and a smile so sweet it could power a small town. When Sadey loves you (which takes, oh… about three seconds), she does that full-body lean that slowly melts into a dramatic flop right onto your feet. Belly rubs? Mandatory. Kisses? Unlimited. Personal space? She’s unfamiliar with the concept. We think Sadie is a Lab/ Golden Retriever mix, but with rescue, it's always a best guess! She currently weighs 58 lbs and is about 2 years old, so past the crazy puppy stage and in the perfect place to love exploring and fun just as much as she loves a long nap on the couch! Watch Sadey's video here! https://youtu.be/fpIECUls1RE?si=z2THWbvKNW4R5RIS Sadey greets new people like she’s been waiting her whole life to meet you. She warms up instantly and showers everyone with affection. The term stranger danger does not exist in her vocabulary. Whoever happens to be holding snacks or just existing nearby. She’s got that “I love you already!!!” energy, but delivered in a soft, polite, wiggly package. When it comes to other dogs, Sadey is a total character. She has a whole playlist of play styles: polite sniffing, zoomy circles, goofy pounces, paws in the air, full body bumps, along with some mouthy play as well and excited play-talk that sounds like she’s narrating her own sitcom. She’s not wild or overwhelming, just a creative little social butterfly who loves making doggy friends and has great manners once everyone gets acquainted. She handles the rough-and-rowdy types like a champ, but she’s just as happy hanging with the mellow crowd. She’d thrive with a friendly canine sibling, but also rocks being the adorable only child. Sadey is cat friendly too and has done great with our house cat biggie and has also lived in a home with cats before. She treats them like quirky little roommates LOL curious but respectful, and always ready to give them space if they give her “the look.” With kiddos (especially older ones), she’s sweet, gentle, and very “pick me, pick me!” in the cutest way possible. We haven’t seen her around younger kiddos, but it’s never a big deal to test if Sadey is littles approved! Just let us know! She loves her walks, loves exploring, loves being adored, and loves being included in whatever her people are doing. When out and about on a walk, she will pull every now and then out of excitement and likes to show off her voice when she see's a friendly face or a doggy friend. She does well with correction and with consistency and structured walks, Sadey will continue to learn that's not very lady like of her. And when the adventures wind down? She curls up into the softest, sleepiest little cinnamon roll, sighs dramatically, and powers down for snuggle time. Sadey would thrive with a semi active family in a home with a backyard where she can stretch her legs, play chase with her potential doggy siblings, and enjoy those nice summer days. She thrives with structure and will do best with an adopter that has a little experience under the belt and will provide her the structure that she needs. Also, bonus points if you have a pool or some form of water nearby because she loves the water and has the best time splashing around kicking up water. Not sure what Sadey loves most though...playing in the water or the towel dry afterwards LOL. It's a win win situation regardless for Sadey. If you want a dog who is sunshine wrapped in fur, a sweetheart who greets life (and you) with a waggy tail, warm eyes, and pure-hearted joy, Sadey is waiting to wiggle her way right into your home and your heart. We are willing to test Sadey with anything you need in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know. Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life?
