Located in Atlanta, GA Meet Penelope Penelope is brand new to our Best Chance Program, and we’ll continue updating her profile as we learn more about her. What we can say already is that this girl walked in and immediately made herself a team favorite. Recently rescued from Cobb County Animal Shelter, Penelope (formerly Gigi) has been nothing short of a gem in her foster home. She’s gentle, calm, and smart, and she already knows how to sit. Her foster says she’s basically flawless — and so far, we’re not arguing. Penelope is: • Crate trained – quiet, relaxed, and goes in willingly. • Excellent on leash – no pulling, no reactivity, calmly minds her business when dogs pass. • Potty trained – zero accidents, and she seems most comfortable going off-leash in a yard. • Independent but affectionate – loves toys, keeps herself busy, and is happy to entertain herself. Penelope is the kind of dog who settles in quickly, watches the world with soft eyes, and quietly wins your heart. She’s loving, loyal, and ready for the kind of life every dog deserves. We’ll keep updating this description as we learn more about her, but if this early impression tells us anything, it’s that Penelope is going to make someone very, very lucky.

Story
Meet Bug – A Miniature Schnauzer with a Big Personality! Atlanta, GA | 2.5 years old | Fully Vetted & Neutered Bug is a true Miniature Schnauzer through and through, smart, determined, and full of personality. At just under 20 lbs, he may be small in size, but don’t let that fool you. Bug is a working dog at heart and thrives when he’s mentally and physically fulfilled. If you're familiar with the breed, you’ll understand the quirks that make him so special. If you're new to Miniature Schnauzers, here's the quick scoop: they're intelligent, alert, spirited, and happiest when they have a job to do. Bug isn’t your typical lap dog, he’s not looking to be carried around or doted on all day. He’s looking for a partner. He loves structured walks, training, learning new skills, and going on adventures. He needs a home that understands his mind and embraces the joy of working with their dog, not just having one around. Bug originally came to us after being dumped at a shelter. He was adopted through our program by a loving family, but unfortunately, they couldn’t follow through with the structure and training Bug depends on to feel safe and confident. He became anxious and overwhelmed, and we made the decision to welcome him back. Since returning, Bug has absolutely flourished. He’s a dream on the leash, loves his crate, settles beautifully on “place,” and is an all-around gentleman when given the leadership he needs. He’s proof that the right environment, one with guidance, patience, and understanding, makes all the difference. If you’re ready to build a real relationship with a dog like Bug, we’d love to chat. We offer training support to help adopters set their dogs up for long-term success, not because Bug needs it, but because he deserves it. Want to learn more about our training philosophy? Listen to our podcast, Think Like a Dog, where we talk all about Bug, our methods, and how to create lasting bonds with dogs just like him. https://thinklikeadog.buzzsprout.com PLEASE COMPLETE THE ADOPTION APPLICATION FIRST. ADOPTION LINK: https://airtable.com/appJMHBItTE2RWdqD/shrsP6tKWM2HcFZaA GEORGIA ADOPTIONS ONLY – WE DO NOT ADOPT OUT OF STATE. Located in Atlanta, GA Sweet Mouse is a gentle and sensitive girl eagerly searching for her forever home. She thrives on structure and routine and would prefer a calm environment with no small children, as she's easily startled by surprises. Mouse is a quick learner, fully housebroken, and feels safest in her crate, which she uses as her personal safe space. She also understands "place" and responds well to boundaries. Mouse is very comfortable around other dogs, though she's still learning boundaries and can be a little pushy with them at times with zero concept of personal space (with dogs only - not humans… yet). She responds well to fair corrections from other dogs and needs a patient dog in her new home.   Mouse needs an understanding adopter who will give her space and allow her to build trust at her own pace; she's not a lap dog (yet!) and prefers a gentle, slow introduction to new people and situations.

Story
Jaid came to DREAM after her owners never returned for her while staying with neighbor. She’s a sweet little gal looking for a place to land and a lap to cuddle on. We know very little about her past (not even her age-its just a guess) but we have followed some clues that lead us to believe she’s had back surgery in the past. She walks just fine and to the untrained eye she walks with an adorable swish. She has had all her regular vetting (shots, tests, spay) and also some imaging. She was having some issues and scanned showed cystitis and she is being treated for that. Don’t let all that medical talk fool ya, this gal is got spunk and is living out loud with many years left to share her passion for taking in all life has to give. If you are interested in adopting Jaid, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Jaid's adoption fee is $500. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Jaid will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Almost every dog's veterinary expenses exceed our adoption fees; we are a non-profit. DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back. Follow us on Instagram , Facebook and Twitter

Story
I'm Sprout, and I am 110% dachshund. I have it ALL -- everything you've heard about dachshunds? I've got it. Snuggly? Check. Food motivated? Yup. Nosy up in all your business? Oh yeah. Demanding of attention? See nosy. Burrow under blankies? All the time. Barky? BARK BARK Back problems? Yup, but I'm a trooper. Funny? SO FUNNY. Sweet kisses? I got 'em. Prey drive. Oh yeah. Show me the squirrel. Nippy with strangers? Well, they're strangers. Duh. Then I sit in their lap. I'm 9 pounds of love and pure nerve. I love my people and I love my doggie friends. I'm a big fan of the couch cuddle and the wrestling zoomies. Adults and kiddos over 10 only please. I had a disc rupture (darn dachshund genes) but I walk pretty normally now. I can run and play but I cannot do stairs. (I can climb a ramp.) I have pretty good control of my bladder but if you give me a little extra squeeze when we go outside (foster mom will teach you), I don't leak in the house. I am about to start some physical therapy to improve my core strength, which will help with that. PILATES, anyone? I am a delight to be around and a real charmer. If you are interested in adopting Sprout, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Sprout's adoption fee is $400. Story
Midnight ended up at animal control after his owners abandoned him at a clinic. He was held for a while but with so many dogs he ended up on the euthanasia list. Can you imagine? This little guy is a very nice dog with a great temperament. He loves to hang with his people way more than the other dogs at his foster home. He appears to prefer the company of the females in the foster home pack. His foster family believe he is mixed with corgi or other herding breed because he has a habit of jumping and mouthing to get attention. Midnight is not rally a vocal dog. But when he has something to say it is in a a "Big Dog" bark but the good news is he's not a huge barker unless he's excited about something. Midnight sleeps quietly in a crate like a gentleman. Midnight is completely potty trained. He no longer takes any medicine for anything but when he did he took it like a champ. He loves to chase a ball and bring it back to you to throw again. He loves to go for loooooooong leash walks. He needs a home with people that will dedicate time to his daily walks. This guy absolutely loves to explore the back yard and will definitely need a fenced yard. He is working on waiting but still is a BIG Door Darter. He is very excited to GO, GO, GOI! A home with adults and everyone over 16yrs is needed so he doesn’t sneak out past a kiddo. ✅ Sweet guy ✅ loves to walk & play with toys ✅ crate trained 🚫 door dasher so no young kiddos ✅ housetrained ✅ smart and eager to learn If you are interested in adopting Midnight, you can fill out an application right on our website!
